I think in general we'd be better off if we learned how to casually and authentically encorporate religion into our conversations and online posts.
One reason I love tumblrstake is that we are just honest, we talk about religion, the good and the bad, and we joke about it. We let it be a casual part of our lives.
"Testimony" social media posts, when people gush about how much they love the temple or the Book of Mormon, inevitably feel forced or overly preachy. Interrupting a conversation to explain and testify of religion can be awkward but just casually mentioning a mission story or something could come across better.
Idk I don't even mean this in a "missionary minded" way. The other reason I love posting on tumblr is I don't care if people agree with me, I just wanna be authentic and find people who resonate with it, whether or not our religious backgrounds are similar. (And I block people who are mean to me)
This is rambly, but am I making sense? Like, I think we're all so scared of elevtor stories like Elder Stevenson shared that either we try to hide/rephrase religious stuff, or we put on our testimony persona as protection, say our schpeel, and then put it away until later.
The comment about the importance of holy matrimony is just sad. Makes me feel left out, as a lesbian member of the church, knowing I’ll never have that :( maybe I should just pray and “be of good cheer”.
Where do y’all predict the new temples?
My vote is Ireland
And that's why chosen names are so important, and using them for your transgender friends shows that you respect them.
For real though, I know Conference isn’t over yet but I do truly love this weird little corner of the internet that we create twice a year. Buncha Mormons enthusiastically and excitedly being Mormon together and then going back to our corners. There’s something really pure about the feeling of instant community.
Y’all are awesome, is what I’m saying
Bout to start referring to heterosexuals as "people who experience opposite sex attraction"
I love the fact that tumblr is a place where queer people of faith have a community. It’s beautiful
I was thinking to myself that maybe this will be the conference in which the prophet finally receives revelation that gay marriage should now be allowed. But I’ve just read the new “for the strength of youth” and it still mentions that acting on that attraction breaks the law of chastity. So I guess the announcement won’t come this conference. Maybe next time.
Second session lets go
OKAY YES. HES SAYING TRUTH DISCOVERED BY SCIENCE AND PERSONAL REVELATION IS FROM GOD YESSSSS
Does this include... science about transgender identities??
I hope so. I really, really hope so.
This right here.
Makeup Tips for Folks With Sensory Issues
If you’re bothered by foundation, look into powder foundations, if the “creamy/sticky” texture is the problem (Au Naturale Powder Foundation, $32). If the weight on your face is the problem, use a super lightweight foundation, one of those that are advertised as “barely there” (Pacifica Dreamy Cover, $17). You could also look into tinted moisturizer (e.l.f Studio Tinted Moisturizer, $3) or BB cream (e.l.f BB Cream SPF 20, $6). If none of these work for you, keep your skin as clean & clear as possible with as much of a daily & weekly regimen as you can do, and consider using a lightweight concealer to cover anything that you think needs covering (e.l.f Beautifully Bare Lightweight Concealer Stick, $4).
If you’re bothered by eyeshadows, consider using a cream shadow rather than a powder shadow (e.l.f Smudge Pot Cream Eyeshadow, $3, or Au Naturale Creme Eye Shadows, $20). There’s also the e.l.f Prism Eyeshadows, $10, which “look like a powder but feel like a cream”. Another option is liquid eyeshadow, if cream doesn’t work for you either (e.l.f Beautifully Bare Smooth Matte Eyeshadow, $4)
If you’re bothered by lipstick, consider using a light gloss (Pacifica Enlightened Gloss, $10) or lip butter (Pacifica Lip Butter, $10). Another option is to just fill everything in with a nice lip liner (Au Naturale Lip Liners, $18). If you need more pigment, go for matte colors, (e.l.f Matte Lip Color, $3), though preferably not in the “liquid-to-matte” format, since those tend to be a bit sticky. If all else fails, a tinted balm (Pacifica Lip Tint, $5) will do the trick enough.
Another option for lips is lip stain
Lip stain goes on as a liquid that’s almost water-like. When it dries it literally doesn’t feel like anything, but leaves behind color.
I can’t really find it in stores anymore but I was able to find some online
These are great tips for if you love make-up, but if you don't want to wear makeup then remember that it's completely ok not to wear makeup too!
I wonder if anyone else who is autistic struggles with wearing bracelets. Like, a beaded bracelet I end up tearing off my wrist and snapping, and I end up squeezing and deforming bangles... How do people keep a bracelet on their wrist WITHOUT destroying it???
