Levihan | Fic Recommendations

I put together a list of Levihan fics I’ve read and loved (in no particular order), and I really wanted to share it because these authors deserve the recognition. 

This is only a small glimpse of what’s out there, but each story carries something special. Revisiting them brought back every emotion I felt the first time I read them, and that kind of impact is worth sharing. 

If you’re looking for Levihan content, these are absolutely worth your time.

I also realized I haven’t been reading nearly as much since I started writing my own fics, which feels like a loss on my part. So I’m planning to spend more time exploring newer stories and updating this list as I go.

So what are your thoughts on Levihan? According to your fics, Levi always realizes Hange's worth too late, always at the last moment (which i think is also the case in the canon and why i love your fics so much). But what do you think?

Hi, anon! I didn't mean to leave your ask here for such a long time. I've been busy. Apologies.

To answer, I’m really glad that theme "Too little, too late" resonates with you, because you’ve put your finger on exactly what draws me to Levihan.

I think you’re right: in canon, Levi and Hange’s relationship is defined less by grand romantic gestures and more by quiet, missed moments and the weight of things left unsaid.

In my interpretation, Levi is someone who shows care through action by protecting, fighting alongside, trusting someone with his life, yadda, yadda but he’s not good at articulating feelings until it’s almost too late. Hange, meanwhile, is so consumed by their passion for knowledge and their sense of duty that they rarely stop to consider their own worth to others.

So in my fics, that ‘realizing too late’ dynamic is me leaning into the tragedy of their canon context. In a world like AOT, people rarely get to say ‘I love you’ at the right time... if at all. Levi realizing Hange’s worth in their final moments (or after losing them) feels painfully true to his character: he’s not someone who reflects on emotional bonds until the threat of losing them becomes immediate. That’s not because he doesn’t care deeply (he does, arguably more than anyone) but because survival and command always come first for him.

So yes, I absolutely think canon supports that reading. Their relationship is built on years of mutual trust, bickering, and saving each other’s lives, but the acknowledgment of what they truly mean to one another always comes in the shadows of loss. That’s the heart of Levihan (at least for me). Again, in my opinion, is not a happy, easy love, but a devastatingly human one where the words come a moment too late.
