featuring: levi ackerman x fem!reader synopsis: you're the reason why levi takes such good care of his mount word count: ~0.6k contents: sfw, underground levi, implied history, friends (or maybe something more?) a/n: i wrote this little snippet because i couldn't get the idea of underground!reader who cared about levi and had an influence on his already empathetic nature but bittersweetly had to say goodbye to him when he left to join the corps out of my head. i imagine he learns to trust his horse completely and takes really good care of it partially out of sentimentality toward the reader. might be a good premise for a longer fic someday!

Levi did not grow up around horses. In the underground, animals were either vermin or meat. There really wasn’t anything in between. A horse would have been impossible anyway, too large for the narrow alleys and too expensive to keep alive. Things that depended on you for care rarely survived down there.
But you liked to talk about the surface. Not that you’d ever been up there either, though that didn’t seem to trouble you. Levi used to think you were moony for letting your head get filled with those stories the men at the bar where you worked brought with them. You knew he took work knocking over the storage warehouses of big-shot surface merchants sometimes and once asked him if he’d ever come across any perfume there.
