In my high school statistics class, my teach made an example by having the class report how much music they listened to. I said 3 hours, which i estimated, yeah like 3-5 albums a day * 30-60 minutes per album. That was really high. Anyway, i forgot what it was like playing music all the time. I'm making a big transition in my computer and its hard - AKA the need for everything to be done in the right way
if you don't know what NixOS is, basically its a way to manage your computer in a really efficient way: in one document you code exactly how everything should be, and then the computer gets itself ready in exactly that way. The problem is that the learning curve is a brick wall
I've been using "difficult" programs for a while. I've never struggled learning adobe programs or stuff like that. I use vim, and archlinux, and other 1887 h4x0r shit thats allegedly hard to learn. but i just put myself in the hot seat for a while and I figured it out... not nix. ive been struggling for weeks
periodically i sit down and do some work on it, with my trusty todo list to keep my on track. Last night I.... set up auto login, and then got the volume keys working... thats it
When I was like 8 or something, I made movies. I would google image search picture, and then animate them in a power point program
When i was like 16 I started making music. But the OS i was on didn't package the software I wanted so I switched
When I was like 17 I switched to an OS aimed specifically at musicians. I made a few little samples and loops
When I was like 18 i still wasn't happy with the software, so i switched to a 1337 OS for h4x0rs. The software was really good except for the fact that it broke all the time. i made a few music videos
Currently im 21, and i wasn't happy, so i switched to super-ultra nightmare mode. my computer does not make music. My midi keyboard doesn't work. It only recently started playing mp3s....
Yeah most of the things are shitty, but I learned the r'lyehian pass phrase!!! It gets... a couple of minor things *prefect*. but *PERFECT* Okay well not actually to my taste or desire or use-case, but methodologically *perfect*! my system is *declarative*! it will be stable forever! it's infinitely reproducible! its *perfect*
Some gesture drawings
Ive been starting from square zero on my drawing practice. Ive been doing some poses and life drawings, and a bit ago i remembered gesture drawing! So ive been doing that. I ground out a big page of gesture drawings
Ive been doing something called an act book. basically, ive been really successful in the gym the past year and I'm trying to apply the same lessons to other kinds of training. In the gym I'd write down each lift as I do it and how much, and week to week I'd be able to progress the weight. And when I was struggling, i can debug those problems, maybe im not eating or sleeping enough, maybe my form is bad, maybe half the plates are labeled in kilos and I didn't realize...
anyway, so in the same way i have a fitness notebook that says so many squats and so many hand stand attempts, I have a notebook that says so many drawings and so many studies. Except its not for notes, its for actions, so i call it an actbook
anyway, one of my goals was to make one "finished piece" each week. This is my piece for today. Its sort of just a pretty composition made out of the things that i'm drilling. the spiral pattern is a pattern i do to build strength and control in my arms. and the figures are all gesture drawings that i made in 60 seconds... and then went over in crayons :3

hi im up too late and thinking about a lot of things in my life that i dont like... idk maybe im depressed or something, but honestly, 100% honest, i dont feel like my art has progressed overall. I think it was starting to get good b4 i went to skool. then after like a year or so it got p okay, now its tanked way below my original level
hopefully this looks silly six months from now
end of last summer i made a comic. i... i was proud of it then but its shrank on me. i feel kinda poo ab it now.... this post was supposed to be something vaugly insperational ab goal setting to draw another comic this summer

just some doodles i made the other day while waiting for a friend to show up
i drew a p okay piucture of @paintedhen .... my dumb ass didnt realize the marker is was usinig on the next page would bleed though :,< (ull have to come over so i can draw u again <3 )
so vivziepopis getting to me.... anyway so after the last episode made me feel something i drew a frame from it thinking of Amy Sillman's Faux Pas. Cant find my copy rn, but something about how paintings are always always viewed in bright white light. but the modern painter is working in the dark in front of screen, high, with fairy light, and also a small basement window.
This looked almost okay in context. but as soon as i changed the lights and held a camera to it it started looking gross
+ the thing she said ab photography changing painting, and the yellow she couldn't get to photography right so she stopped using it.
++ what she said ab having a color pallet prechosen by the paint marker manufacturer

i was reading phil hine and he was talking ab limitations as these reactive agents. Basically he said if u actually want to overcome a limitation, you have to like... try something you feel like you cant do...
ive been thinking ab that a lot. Its hard. its validating to me to feel like the reason im not drawing is bc all my time is monopolized by capitalism and shit. But like, thats now the limitations want me to feel. thats how the capitalism overlords want me to feel. but i dont wanna feel that way
I never thought id really be a huge gym rat until i started fighting tooth and claw to be in the gym. Somehow I do actually have the time to go to the gym three or four or five times a week. Its the same with drawing. I really just gotta fucking claw and bite and chew at those limitations until they fuck back into the aether where they belong
