How Can We Reduce Waste?
Did you know that the average human produces between 3 and 5 pounds of trash a day? Multiply that with around 8 billion, or more, people a day and what you get is one massive problem.
What makes this worse, is that some developed, first world countries, have started to ship their waste to underdeveloped countries that are usually the third world or worse. We’re looking at you America, and while saying that “none of this is okay” is a statement that seems to not be heard, each and every person on this planet has a moral responsibility to look after this planet. While the bigger effects of creating so much waste might not affect you right now, it will affect either you, your children or your future generations of children’s children if it is not put to an end.
But, just what can 8 billion people do? Especially those who are countries received the waste from other countries? Where is the hope in that? There are a lot of questions and way too few people to answer them or come up with a solution.
A problem ladies and gentlemen?
Massive.
Ways to Reduce your Trash
Unless you missed it, although it may be tough, it starts with one individual. You. Follow these tips and guidelines to sustain our beautiful planet.
1. Don't buy beverages in cans, plastic cups or bottles. In fact, if you know what's in the juice, that very sweet Starbucks whatever it is and a can of coke, don’t.
2. Carry a reusable water bottle, preferably glass around, everywhere you go.
3. Don’t make unnecessary purchases.
4. Don’t buy bottled water, rather drink from either a filter or tap.
5. Take a reusable travel mug wherever you go.
6. Use your own reusable containers when buying food that is served in plastic.
7. Buy milk in reusable and returnable glass bottles.
8. Buy honey, maple syrup, nut butter and pickled veggies or anything else from your local farmers market. Not only will you be helping the earth, but you will also be supporting local businesses.
9. Take lunch to work and avoid those takeout meals. This could reduce plastic and waste, as well as keep the waistline healthier. Not only that, it will also add to healthy cholesterol levels. Who wouldn’t want that?
10. Return egg trays and berry cartons. Strange… We know, but this type of strange equals to cool if you think of all you’re doing to help the earth.
11. Use your own reusable bags when you're shopping and avoid buying plastic ones that furthermore fuel waste production when it comes to plastic. Plastic is considered one of the most recyclable sources of waste which can cause a lot of harm to the environment and its organisms. Especially the ocean.
Be bold and take your time to make a difference today.
