ALEC MORGENSTERN.
Lately, Alec felt a little like he was flying on a pink cloud through the sky. Things had been far too good between Ava and him. His life was going so well – better than he expected it to go. After their break up, he didn’t think he’d ever be as happy again as he was at the moment. A part of him still expected it all to turn out to be one perfect dream. That at some point, he’d wake up and everything vanished into thin air. No more Ava, just an empty bed next to him. But the other part, the bigger part, knew that this was real. This was happening, and he didn’t want to miss a single second of it. Which was why he hadn’t been working all that much lately. He was too focused on enjoying his time with her to care much, but if he wanted to keep his good name and business, he had to at least work a little bit here and there. That day he’d been out hunting for some materials to create a few new pieces for his most loyal customers. But the moment Ava informed him via text that she’d gone home from work because she wasn’t feeling well, he wanted to cut his trip short. He was quick to buy a few more necessary things, before he drove the truck back to his house. He didn’t care much about unloading his truck, but instead moved to the door right away to check on Ava first.
When she came towards him, he could immediately tell that she wasn’t feeling well. Her face was unusually pale, and her eyelids heavy, dark circles underneath her eyes. His arms wrapped gently around her frame as he pulled her in to plant a kiss to her forehead. “How are you feeling?”, he asked, not even bothering to answer her question about his day. It didn’t matter in comparison to her. Yet her next words were enough to set him on edge. An uneasy feeling took over him, and he cleared his throat. Was this is? The beginning of the end? Was she feeling unwell because of him? Because she realized, again, that this thing between them didn’t work out for her? But he tried to keep a straight face, a soft smile on his lips as he nodded. “Of course. I have more than a minute – however long you need,” he reassured her gently. Slowly walking into the living room, he hesitated a moment before he sat down on the couch. “What is it, Ava? Not to be dramatic, but you… you’re scaring me a little here.”
This was all sorts of an unexpected behavior for Ava especially with leaving work early and needing to rest. It was bound to raise concern and a few brows to everyone in the hospital and she could only know people were destined to ask questions or beating around the bush. This was simply the least of her worries in the moment. Those people didn’t matter. Those who did matter were Alec and Ava, not knowing how he’d feel about the idea about her being pregnant so soon of them having gotten back together. They didn’t even discuss whether they wanted to try again or not. The idea of her getting pregnant without any complications relived Ava in knowing it was possible. But, miscarriage was far too uncommon in her experiences of trying to carry their kid to full term. This was the part which frightened her because she didn’t want to disappoint Alec or make him think she’d run away if the universe did cause them another heartbreak after another pregnancy attempt failed. It’s why each and every moment passing over her, sinking in the news which was exciting but full of nerves made her feel queasy and anxious for Alec’s return back home. All she wanted was a dream come true - to finally be a mother. For both of them to finally be parents. Their lifetime dream having been brought to life to them. This couldn’t be a false positive. Not with how it had been nearly seven weeks - where she missed her period as she believed it was all because of stress. It couldn’t be. She knew her body all too well more and more since she experienced two times before where she found out she was pregnant. It came with a state of paleness and nauseous due to morning sickness, which wasn’t just in the morning but all throughout the day. It was the needed warmth of Alec’s embrace caused Ava to melted into his strong grip, snapping out of her thoughts, gripping onto him for life and death as she buried her face into his shirt as a few tears cascaded down her olive complexion, petals tightening to avoid any form of whimper escaping. She was happy. She was but would he be happy?
“Queasy. I’ll be fine,” she spoke through a muffle, keeping her face moments longer into his blouse before chocolate hues lifted up toward him. Forcing a weak smile on her lips, taking in Alec in case, he didn’t want to have any sort of part of this pregnancy or the possible disappointment. Although, she’s going to do everything in her bones to remain positive on this. Maybe for once, the universe brought this unexpected pregnancy to both of them in the timing they least expected it. Like years of separation, growing back together and falling back into each other’s embrace and bed’s was meant to happen like this. “I love you. I never want you to forget that,” she immediately reminded him, not wanting him to think Ava was calling quits or regretted any of this. God, she could never. He meant the entire world to him. In all of those years of their separation, she didn’t feel any sort of happiness like the one she had been experiencing in the last few months. Trailing softly toward the couch, she sat beside him before taking a deep sigh, attempting to find the words and how to properly begin this. “I love you. I don’t want to scare you because I don’t... think this is scary. This is exciting but I’m anxious.” Mentioning once again, clutching onto the plastic pregnancy test now, gently playing with it. “I know we didn’t have a chance to discuss what we wanted for our future.” Another pause, chocolate hues glancing down at the positive pregnancy test in her hands, knowing this could be fate. “Or if we wanted to try to have kids again.” Subtly mentioning, putting the test off toward the side on the couch, scooting hands closer to Alec as she took his larger ones in her smaller grip. Giving him a tight squeeze to reassure him everything was okay, they were going to be okay, even if she felt weak from her panicking state from earlier. “I....” she felt a shiver slither down her spine, swallowing a lump forming in her throat. How would he accurate to this? God, she couldn’t lose him every again. Not now. Not ever. Sternly looking in his matching chocolate hues, feeling a natural but unexpected beam rise on her lips, “I’m pregnant.”
