Uli did live a life before he joined the blood wolf’s following. In his village, with his fellow people, all with goaty hooves, all with sweets lacking but an ounce of spice, and Uli’s favourite thing; songs and dance. He would clack his hooves together and play only the finest of tunes. He did not have any family, but made many allies. He was good at that, finding allies. He was often a big speaker for his age. He was still young, not quite in his manhood, when they came. Wolves among goats. Wolves would normally eat sheep, or sheep would sheepishly follow along, with no strong ideas of their own. But goats were different. Goats were tough, committed to their cause, and made their own useful additions.

And so Uli saw the threat as an opportunity. An opportunity to use his skills, to turn the tables, to be a part of something he was surely destined for. He was witty. Charming, even. so when these people, who spoke of this wolf of fear came to terrorize his town, he came out and spoke, loudly.

“My friends! We need not be afraid, or intimidated. We need not shed any blood.” He said, letting his voice echo around the town now bathed in a red glow, addressing his fellow allies. Then, he turned to the wolves, lowering his voice, as it was now a statement for him, the bloodwolf, only. “For you are our friend too.. and we are loyal to you.”

A few came, including Uli, and the rest were slain like sheep.

Uli did not know what he expected, but he had spent enough time in this world as a child to know that it was best to start with his head hung low.

They were taught the ways and Uli remained perhaps the most loyal of them all throughout. Every day they would pledge their allegiance and loyalty to the bloodwolf, as Uli had promised. No matter how much his back ached, or if his mouth felt dry or his feet tired, he kept going, every day, for he remembered that it was his promise that had started it all. Still, it grew a bit tiresome , the bloodwolf not telling them any of his plans. Uli would find a way.

After pledging, they moved on to sacrifice. They had to give their own fear or find someone else. Then the commander would take them to the bloodwolf, supposedly. But Uli knew that this would not be enough. They had to find a way for this bloodwolf to be able to feed as he needed on all the earth, to come back and continue his just rein, as Uli quoted every time he woke.

Outside of their duties, Uli did find time to converse and connect with the others. There were all sorts of species, particularly those strong enough to be the ones sacrificing rather than sacrificed. Wolves, goblins, magic users.. but still, Uli had a soft spot for the other goats that he knew from before.

“Ulshack!” One greeted him. It was Albrecht.

“Albrecht! Good day to you!” Uli greeted him back with equal if not more grace. “How have you been?”

“Alright.. you know the pledging thing really has been kicking my behind, see.. I might have to stop going, would you care to join me?”

“Nein! You would dare go against das bloodwolf?”

Uli never saw Albrecht again. Or anyone unloyal. And so his days among the bloodwolf’s followers grew in numbers. He was glad. He felt himself getting closer. Yet sometimes he felt lonely.

But he knew this was not a useful emotion, so he quite neutralized it. He had been taught— there was fear and those who made it. There was loyalty and those who had to be taught it.

Eventually he pushed past until even the leader had to let him get closer to the bloodwolf, he could feel him, and he knew what he wanted. Uli had a plan, to let the bloodwolf out of his unjust prison. Uli would save this world, and let it fall into the bloodwolf’s paws.

Because he was loyal, because he was skilled.

Because There was power and control, and those who were controlled.

-Dulcinea is annoying (I switched up on this a lot)

-Kitty soft paws is a ripoff Dulcinea (we all know why this isn’t true lmao I watched the series first tho)

-Uli has no depth and is just a bitch + chopped

-the ugly duckling is also just a bitch

-not a hot take but I probably questioned a lot about pregnancy in different species after seeing the pregnant Brad episode 😭

-vina is annoying (I acted EXACTLY like her at the time)

-esme is secretly evil and should be obliterated

I just watched hoppers (ik im late haha) and it was honestly so refreshing like I feel like it’s been a while since animated movies have been so deep if that’s the right word— I cried two to three times unprompted haha

The message was very good and I like how it spreads awareness about everything and yet the ending isn’t just “do this one thing” or “do this other thing” it’s about working together to make sure everyone can live comfortably and like the entire point of what nature is

Other than that I think the story beats were so interesting and refreshing, they didn’t feel like a recycled overused plot map and more like something original and very witty, real, and beautiful.

I really like Mabel’s character, I love it when there are characters who really try to defy a system and they feel strongly about sort of wanting to bring about justice, but no one else around them seems to care, and just her character I feel really resonated with me and probably lots of people and yeah overall I think it’s really cool we need more movies like this
