Thinking about that one jumblr post from years ago about how A Series of a Unfortunate Events is such a Jewish story and wishing I could find it because the idea of the Baudelaires being constantly gaslit about Count Olaf’s identity while in disguise as an allegory to Jews being constantly gaslit about antisemitism is on rotation in my brain like a rotisserie chicken
Jews pointing out antisemitism and non-Jews saying it’s not/it’s just criticism/etc. is literally Jews as the Baudelaire orphans going “that’s Count Olaf in a disguise!” And non-Jews as Mr. Poe, et al. going “That’s not Count Olaf, that’s sailboat real estate agent Captain Sham, obviously. Honestly orphans, you think everything is Count Olaf.”
