PROJECT ENOCH - CHAPTER 9 Horizon: Forbidden West Kotallo x OC Beta-Readers: @tiredbutthrivingfaequeen @horizonwritersblog
“I’m building myself a new arm,” Kotallo announced, eyes burning with determination, “GAIA has been helping me with the schematics, and she suggested I go accompanied.” June clapped her hands excitedly, “A new arm? Oh Stars, Kotallo! That’s amazing!” She exclaimed, her heart full of joy at the thought of the Marshal wearing it proudly. “Who are you going to take with you on this mission of most importance?” She asked slyly, her tongue peaking through her grin. Kotallo hummed and pinched his chin, as if deep in thought. “ Mmhh- Who would be best to accompany me?” June chuckled and mirrored his expression, crossing her arms on her chest. “Aloy would be the most logical choice, she’s the strongest of all of us…” She started to pace around the Marshal. "She would be a great choice," he agreed softly, "but I believe the Commander is a little busy right now. Anyone else?” She paused, her index finger resting on her chin, eyes looking up, “Why not Varl? He’s also a competent warrior.” "I need someone with a little more," Kotallo twirled his hand and pursed his lips, then said, "...Finesse." “Don’t tell me you’re considering Erend! ” June blurted out, laughing.

They both pivoted toward the group, “By the Forge! You’re back!” Erend moved from behind the kitchen space and clapped Kotallo on the back. The Marshal grunted at the force of blow but he was looking somewhat pleased to see the rough Oseram. “Glad you survived a field trip with the Tenakth, June,” Erend said loudly, “Is it true that they drink blood ?” He asked her, “Kotallo won’t tell me.” The Siriusean gave a wild look to the Marshal, mouthing the word “ blood? ” She turned back to Erend, “Oh, I survived.” Then she added under her breath, “Barely…” Zo shot her an alarmed look, “Kotallo, what did you do?” She asked, pointing her wooden spoon at the Marshal. He stammered, “It was Tekkoteh’s fault, I swear!” Aloy chuckled from the couch, “ When is it not?” she looked at Kotallo, “What did he do this time?” The Marshal made a face, he counted on his fingers, “Sent an assassin to murder Chief Hekarro, tried to smother June and I while we slept… to name a few examples...” Varl’s jaw dropped, “And? How did you two handle it?” he asked. Kotallo started, “Well…” “I killed him,” June interrupted him. She walked to Zo in the kitchen area, “Is dinner ready yet?” she inquired. Except for the Marshal who smiled a proud lopsided grin, the group shared bewildered looks.

“A fight to the death... With her.” Kotallo paced in front of the dais, “June is not Tenakth! She’s not bound by our laws.” His voice thickened with raw panic. He turned to June, who was still standing at the bottom of the stairs, only now she was looking at the Marshal. Dekka’s face wore a grim mask, “These are ancient laws, and Tekotteh has the right to demand it,” she said, shaking her head dolefully. “And she has every right to refuse,” Kotallo walked in front of the Sirusean, shifting on his feet restlessly. He took her hand in his, squeezing gently. “You don’t have to do it, June,” he said, his voice no more than a pleading whisper. The Siruisean lifted her hand, silencing him. She looked gravely into the Marshal’s eyes before turning away. “I accept,” she announced, her voice traveling far and wide into the throne room. The color drained out of Kotallo’s face, he looked like he was about to empty his stomach. Why on earth would she accept this? Kotallo tried to understand, baffled. Hekarro shifted in his seat, his expression hardened. “Then it is settled,” the Chief said. “Your fates will be decided, at dusk.”

“Your mother, what kind of person is she?” The Marshal eyes opened, he looked pensive for a moment, “...She was an artist,” he finally said. “Her paintings are still up on the walls inside The Bulwark.” He started walking, “If there’s one thing I miss about this place, it’s seeing them.” June hummed, “I look forward to viewing them then,” she said, smiling earnestly at Kotallo. The Marshal smiled slightly at the thought, “What about your mother?” he asked. The Siriusean gulped, “Sometimes it’s hard for me to remember her…” her shoulders sagged. “But… I know she liked singing. And she called me her honeybee.” “I’m sorry,” Kotallo said, a pang of sadness in his voice. “When did you…?” June took a breath, “two? Maybe three? Then I was placed in the Siriusean Army hands,” she motioned at herself, “So they could make a perfect little soldier out of me.” “I was raised by my squad,” The marshal said, “You and I, we’re not so different…” A flush crept up June’s face, “Maybe,” she said with a slight smile on her face and a warm and fuzzy feeling growing in her chest. “How strange.” She whispered, staring up at the snow drifting from the skies. “For us to grow galaxies apart and still have so much in common when it comes to pain.”

"Kotallo was holding her tightly, almost out of breath. They were on the floor of the Healer wing, the room was in total disarray and the healers cowered in a corner. Hekarro, Dekka and Ivvira looked disheveled, eyes wide by the door. Looking at the Marshal, holding onto June like he was clutching onto her for dear life. “June, please, answer me,” Kotallo panted. Her breathing was still frantic, her eyes looked empty. The green of her usual luxurious forest was pale and withered."

PROJECT ENOCH - CHAPTER 4 Horizon: Forbidden West Kotallo x OC Beta-Readers: @tiredbutthrivingfaequeen @maelove21 "[...] June plopped herself on the cot closest to her, slamming face first into it, moaning in delight. The sound rumbled deep in Kotallo's chest. He started to unbuckle his armour, starting with his wrist cuffs. June had turned, head propped on her hand. She looked at him dressing down. Soon his chest plate and pauldron fell on the floor, then he raised his arm to take off his head piece and hair ornaments. June admired his strong shoulders and torso, trying to make sense of his tattoos and markings. Her mouth watered slightly at the thought of leaving a trail of kisses on his collar bone. [...]"

PROJECT ENOCH - CHAPTER 3 Horizon: Forbidden West Kotallo x OC Beta-Readers: @tiredbutthrivingfaequeen @maelove21 "Kotallo entered Aloy’s quarter with a bowl of Zo’s famous roots stew. June hadn’t moved from where she’s been sitting on the floor, in the middle of the room. He approached her carefully, keeping some distance. “Hi,” he said. June was hugging her knees to her chest, cheek resting on one knee. She didn’t move. “June…” Kotallo spoke, moving a little closer to her. “The commander- Aloy, can be a little disconcerting when you meet her, but she is always fair.” June growled and hid her face inward, “Don’t.” He kneeled next to her, his hand reaching for her shoulder. June sighed, “I’m not- mad at her,” turning her face toward him. Only then he noticed the dried salt trails on her cheeks. “I’m just…” she searched for words to explain how she felt. “Lost?” Kotallo said, almost in a whisper."

PROJECT ENOCH - CHAPTER 2 Horizon: Forbidden West Kotallo x OC Beta-Readers: @tiredbutthrivingfaequeen @maelove21 "Kotallo had been awake when he heard June waking up. She was mumbling in her sleep, calling for someone but he had been unable to hear who. He turned in his bed, the day before she had explained that she was a soldier, like himself. He knew that often for people like them, dreams came as grim reminders of their past or mistakes. He lifted his head from his pillow when he heard the airtight door opening and closing, his bunk was concealed by a drape he hung to gain a little bit more privacy from his Oseram roommate but he did not need to see who left the room to know it was her . Her footsteps alone reveal her in his ears. His stump throbbed dully, the fall he took yesterday definitely had something to do with that. Zo had been kind enough to brew him one of her pain relief infusions before the group headed for bed; the effect had worked throughout most of the night. But now, the pain persisted regardless of how many deep breathing exercises Kotallo tried. All his efforts, to no avail, so he got up feeling defeated. He grunted, holding onto his stump."

"She was shouldering her plasma cannon when she noticed the one armed Terran fighter in the middle of the battle. He was fighting like a damned devil, slashing his spear at a Far Zenith soldier. He didn’t see the specter barreling toward him from behind until too late and the big machine sent him flying backwards. June did not hear the deafening thud his body made when he landed on his side, she had already leapt from the ship and was running straight through the combat zone."

Chapter 1 - The First Ones
June’s ship rocked and bobbed like it weighed nothing; this would be a rough landing. The invisible forcefield of the mother ship slowed the approach and made the ship's internal instruments sputter, from the altitude she could see a struggle happening on the ground underneath.
The Zenith and a small army of Specters were head to head with a group of Terrans. June took in the violence of the battle and pushed the ship controls down, trying to land quickly without crashing.
Kotallo focused his attention on what was happening in front of him, slashing and dodging. A spector went down and he finally noticed the small contraption hovering above the plain. He tapped his focus quickly, opening the main channel.
"Is anyone else seeing this?" he panted, running forward and rolling under another specter only to lunge his spear upward.
"It’s a small ship apparently," Aloy answered. "I’ve never seen anything like this," she added.
"Great," Erend chimed in. "A new friend I hope!"
