a mistake that happened more than once. derek might not have been aware of it due to the town’s intervention-- but if there was a perfect title for his autobiography, that was it. it still made him wince. happen more than once? yes, that was undeniable. still ongoing? was more... questionable. when he didn’t have anything good to say to defend himself, he stayed quiet until she was finished. “...i... you’re right. you’re right. i’ll come to the game. if you still want me there. but then... leia, i’m sorry.”

thor odinson wasn’t exactly known for being in any committed relationships, he knew that.  so what if he usually spent time with people whose names he didn’t remember the next day ?  as long as he never crossed any lines with students ( and he made sure not to ), he never saw the harm.  thing was, though, the dates he had gone in the few days that he had planned with wanda maximoff were…different.  but, also not quite a part of what he had planned.  it didn’t surprise him, though, when somehow, steve rogers knew.  “i like spending time with wanda, she’s a good friend,” he chose to play it safe and not at all answer the question.  steve could pry but, he was fairly certain that wanda was a private person.  after a pause, he added a quick, “what are you even up to these days?”

steve nodded along. “she is. i like spending time with her.” he looked over his face, but didn’t press the issue. especially not when thor was so quick to change the subject. maybe things hadn’t gone well, or maybe there was a reason he wasn’t supposed to know. he’d definitely try again with wanda, but for the moment it could rest. “what am i up to? the usual, mostly. volunteering down at the fire station. i’ve been on the trucks a little less, some more behind the scenes stuff. helping tony where i can. how about you?”

                    she  knows  that  she  is  intelligent  ,  she  had  managed  to  get  into  a  post  -  secondary  school  ,  even  if  it  was  dedicated  to  something  that  her  parents  would  consider  ‘  silly  ’  .  design  classes  weren’t  just  drawing  outfits  ,  she  could  still  feel  the  horrifying  satin  that  she  had  to  work  with  the  day  prior  ,  leading  to  hair  to  fall  out  of  her  head  from  the  stress  .  although  ,  when  it  came  to  things  like  her  best  friend’s  abilities  ,  she  could  never  hold  that  much  intelligence  within  her  head  ,  not  without  having  enforcers  to  cause  her  to  focus  .  her  eyes  are  studied  on  a  group  of  university  students  that  are  joining  endless  tables  together  ,  her  tongue  darting  out  to  lick  her  lips  .  ‘‘  guess  —-  i  got  lucky  for  being  this  beautiful  ,  huh  ?  ’’  she  asked  ,  although  to  no  one  in  particular  .  /  sebastian  smythe  .  (  @awaitfm​  )

sebastian didn’t skip a beat. “it’s a gift and a curse.” if veronica hadn’t been looping him into this list of beautiful people, he wasn’t aware of it. “people always think that you’re so unapproachable just because you look like this.” he finally turned to her from where they’d been mutually surveying. “and then everyone thinks that you have all of these friends, because you must. it’s a self-perpetuating cycle. they’re like sheep, aren’t they?”

“you are a dramatic one. don’t try and get yourself scott-free with that. you have all of the sensibility and none of the follow-through. sad, really. you could have had so much potential.” he shook his head. “come across someone. as if i don’t already know everyone here. intimately.” he laughed, because he wasn’t sure what the alternative was. “does the thought of family spark some feeling? yes, it sparks my flinching reflex. i’ve got no bloody clue how to parent a child, laurie. and godfather isn’t a legal commitment, is it?”

                    eyebrows  furrow  towards  the  middle  of  her  forehead  as  she  heard  the  words  that  misty  provided  to  her  .  it  caused  her  to  feel  insulted  ,  but  april  knew  better  than  to  act  upon  impulse  after  endless  instances  of  her  having  to  be  held  back  &  then  apologizing  for  her  actions  .  ‘‘  that’s  quite  assumptive  of  you  .  i  actually  enjoy  the  outside  &  i  also  enjoy  rain  as  well  .  as  a  child  ,  i  loved  to  dance  around  in  the  rain  ,  i  felt  as  though  it  was  an  experience  that  allowed  me  to  get  closer  to  mother  nature  as  a  whole  &  hope  that  my  daughter  will  enjoy  it  as  well  .  ’’  she  said  as  she  rested  her  hands  on  her  lap  .  ‘‘  i  do  understand  the  love  for  rain  ,  though  .  sunshine  can  cause  some  damage  if  it’s  out  for  too  long  .  ’’

misty knew that she had insulted april, and she of smiled nervously. she wasn’t the best at patching up after she’d missed a social cue. more likely to just get up off of the bench and go start a new life somewhere else. but she was trying to get better. find a tribe of her own. “my mistake. it’s just that every time i see you out of scrubs you’re always dressed so nicely.” she hadn’t seemed to put together that that was mostly hospital functions or professional dress. and misty’s standards of nice were more than likely a maxi dress and a shawl over it. “so i guess what i’m saying is you look nice!”

it was like cheryl couldn’t escape the blonde no matter how hard she tried. listen, sure, she found her absolutely gorgeous but that was just an objective thing okay ? it wasn’t like she actually like her or purposely planned for them to get stuck together during seven minutes of heaven in high school, no, she despised the girl. she schooled her facial expression as she gave misty a once over, “ do you have a staring problem or what, barbie ? ”

misty was surprised at herself how long it took to place the girl in front of her. at first, she’d just sort of frowned. Because what had she done to get a greeting like that? then her eyebrows raised. oh!! cheryl! from high school. misty hadn’t had a lot of sympathy for most of the people who picked on her, but cheryl had always been an exception. the pain around her was evident, even to someone untrained. “oh! hi, cheryl. i haven’t seen you in a while. how have you been?”

“ sounds like a pretty good deal to me. ” not that kurt was about to out someone else’s secret anyways. sure, he tended to be catty but totally within reason. this didn’t seem to be one of those situations, especially when it came to someone he related to far more than he didn’t. sure, he didn’t know all the details but seeing those orange bottles were enough evidence for him he had far more in common with sebastian than he had initially anticipated. who would’ve thought? certainly not kurt. “ honestly ? i don’t even know. i guess it was just a lucky moment for me. i moved here and it was like i was drawn to her, would you believe it ? ” he inquired with a soft chuckle. but really, kurt sort of clung to the first girl to give him attention. he was still pretty wary of most men save for a few. but the more that kurt and sebastian spoke, the more he was becoming one of those men he wasn’t  wary of. strange how that worked out, wasn’t it ? 

“the fact that you would call meeting quinn lucky tells me that we have a very different relationship.” it was a joke, but said in such a deadpan way that there was a chance it was hard to tell. “don’t get me wrong. i love her. she’s my best friend. but she can be a real bitch sometimes. most of the time.” the irony of that seemed to be lost on him. he’d moved away from the window a little bit as he relaxed his leg, taking a pull from the cigarette. in fact, he was right under the sprinkler when it triggered, and a loud fire alarm started throughout the building. “shit.”

                    once  she  finished  her  final  bill  ,  she  let  out  a  breath  she  had  been  holding  ,  feeling  all  the  anxiety  escape  her  .  looking  up  towards  her  friend  ,  spencer  shook  her  head  from  side  to  side  ,  barely  any  emotion  on  her  features  ,  but  that  wasn’t  rare  for  the  hastings  woman  .  she  had  been  trained  to  hold  her  emotions  deep  down  &  use  them  as  leverage  towards  being  better  .  ‘‘  talking  about  it  would  be  stupid  ,  derek  ,  we  both  know  that  .  what  is  talking  about  it  going  to  do  ?  make  me  feel  better  ?  it’s  not  going  to  fix  the  problems  that  are  in  my  head  until  i  finish  the  tasks  at  hand  &  talking  about  them  will  further  the  frustration  .  ’’  she  said  in  her  matter  -  of  -  fact  tone  as  she  set  her  wallet  down  on  the  table  ,  looking  at  the  male  .

derek got it, intellectually. he would rather rip out his own fingernails than talk about his past. still, he looked a little surprised at the immediate push-back. he gave her a second to distance herself before he spoke.  “i agree.” he doubted, if she was already at this level, that talking about school or definitely her family would be a step in the wrong direction. so, after a few moments of careful deliberation, he decided to step on the conversational landmine that would at least get her out of her own thoughts. “leia kicked me out.”

                    the  sweet  smile  that  beth  usually  sports  ,  never  leaves  her  features  as  her  fingers  continue  to  trace  patterns  along  the  back  of  her  friend  .  even  if  she  would  regret  having  to  stay  up  so  late  tomorrow  ,  she  couldn’t  help  but  feel  as  though  james  was  her  responsibility  in  that  moment  .  she  whole  -  heartedly  enjoyed  taking  care  of  other  people  ,  which  made  many  people  believe  that  she  should  have  went  to  medical  school  ,  but  her  anxiety  always  talking  her  out  of  it  .  ‘‘  you  are  not  fine  ,  but  you  can  keep  telling  yourself  that  you  are  ,  ’’  she  giggled  ,  moving  her  position  around  a  bit  to  get  her  weight  off  her  ankles  .  ‘‘  james  ,  you  have  no  reason  to  apologize  .  besides  ,  i  don’t  work  tomorrow  ,  just  need  to  do  a  few  things  for  school  &  i’ll  have  all  day  to  do  such  .  now  come  on  ,  let  me  help  you  to  the  couch  ,  please  ?  ’’  she  asked  ,  holding  out  her  hand  .

james made a weak noise of protest, but he did indeed, with quite a bit of assistance from the furniture, hoist himself up to his feet. “i don’t need any help. i’m poss’tively spritely.” he was, at least, doing better than he had been when beth had hauled him up the stairs. he seemed to be rebounding, but whether it would be enough to get him to the couch in one piece was for the future to say. “you’re telling me that i should go to bed, but you should go to bed. you’ve got things to do.” he did too, but they had been forgotten hours ago. no doubt he would be running out of beth’s place before noon. “beth, you’re so cool. why’re you so cool? i’d like to be cool.” he grabbed the doorframe, steadying himself before he continued out to the hall.

he offered the other a sheepish smile, adjusting the bag he had wrapped around his shoulder as he stepped back to give him some space again. “ oh no ! i wasn’t talking about that, honeslty didn’t even notice it until you pointed it out. it does give me some inspiration for a paint splattered shirt but that’s neither here nor there. ” he said with a wave of his hand, playing it off. “ and i promise i didn’t mean any harm by it, just wanted to use my design major for good. i forget how to act sometimes. ” he admitted with a soft laugh, ducking his head a bit. “ but the offer still does stand, i do still need a model for my clothes if that’s something you’d be interested in. mannequins aren’t quite the same.  ”

james’s expression downgraded from horrified to simply nervous, and he did his best to echo his smile. he self-consciously pulled his jacket closed a little bit and nodded. “um. i mean, i don’t really have any modeling experience. and i’m a bit short. and i don’t have, you know, the...” he stuck his hands out to the sides like he was imitating broad shoulders. “i don’t know why you’d much like to make clothes for someone like me.” he was absolutely red by now, and was looking around a little bit like there would be a hidden camera.

“ so you know, just to like recap, you’re telling me that the brownie i was offered at the party last weekend wasn’t 100% a brownie ? ” peter repeated, probably for the third time since he even told steve about that party. “ is that why there was a weird taste to it ? i just thought they might’ve forgotten the baking powder, or whatever is actually needed for brownies. ” he said, still slightly dumbfounded by the whole concept. 

it was only practice that steve hadn’t started laughing the second that peter had told him what had happened. after all, it was already said and done. obviously, peter was okay. was it irresponsible of whoever was just blindly offering brownies to people not to warn about their contents? sure. steve’s head was tilted a little bit, because he honestly couldn’t believe-- “and that was your first time with... brownies?” he asked, taking time to school his face straight. “anything in the brownie family?”

steve had known thor for a while now. definitely long enough to know that thor was a really good guy. and that he’d trusted him enough to send wanda his way. ...more than that, honestly. enough to push wanda into seeing him once she’d mentioned that she was interested off-handedly. she’d hesitated at first, but he was _almost _sure that she’d broken down. and wanda had already gotten her share of pressing questions, so it was time to turn the tables. steve took a drink from his beer, acting like all this wasn’t pre-meditated. “so, did you end up going out with wanda, or did that not work out?” @legendsrevolt​

outside of tony stark’s home office, there was a basket of koosh balls. every time someone new came to the house, it would be one of the things that would be commented on. but steve had walked into tony’s office one too many times where he would get some kind of laser pointed at him or some little robot would skitter too close to him to the floor. so, when steve wanted tony’s attention, he would now hock a koosh ball at the back of his head from ten feet away. now was one of those times-- and steve’s aim was true, going right for between the shoulder blades. “are you going to come to dinner, or is it just me tonight?” @daybrevks​

“hey. i know i’m a stranger, but do you want the rest of this?” and, yes, steve had just walked up to someone completely off the street and held out a pizza that, by the heft of it, still had about three quarters of it left. and, honestly, those words would have been a blessing when steve was mickey’s age. he probably already would have been a road runner smoke cloud, pizza box in hand. “my eyes were a little bigger than my stomach, and i can’t take it with me.” @noanglcs​

it was a few hours after sunday dinner. tony had already snuck off to his office, so it was now just wanda and steve in the living room. they had been playing a card game for a while, but it was more of a preface for the conversation than anything. he’d just finished recounting a (severely redacted) tale of his last EMS encounter, and he looked up from his cards with a smile. “so, do you know anything about pilates? or is yoga a whole separate thing?” @walkintravesty​

derek looked over at the donation bin as he reclaimed his books and straightened the stack, and shook his head a little bit. he just walked over, but he was still comfortably in talking distance. “if you need an excuse for a break, i’m happy to give you one. but if you have other things to do...” it wasn’t like he had plans for the rest of the day. “i’m derek. i work up there at the library. i just got off.” he gestured in the direction of city hall, just a little walk away.

                    there  is  actually  a  stiffled  chuckle  that  happens  in  the  throat  of  the  male  ,  looking  towards  his  ex  with  a  raised  eyebrow  .  ‘‘  i’d  like  you  to  try  &  get  him  out  here  .  i  bet  hearing  his  younger  brother  hanging  out  at  his  bar  is  exactly  the  push  he  needs  to  come  socialize  .  ’’  his  voice  was  bitter  ,  hand  gripping  the  glass  that  was  holding  his  drink  a  bit  tighter  .  the  topic  of  his  brother  would  forever  be  a  sore  spot  for  stefan  ,  having  to  endure  so  many  years  of  just  wanting  his  brother  to  accept  &  love  him  but  falling  short  due  to  the  manipulation  of  their  father  .  ‘‘  right  —-  well  guess  it’s  a  good  thing  that  you’ve  never  actually  went  for  psychology  ,  huh  ?  there’s  a  difference  between  an  observation  &  assumption  .  maybe  you  should  focus  on  pouring  your  drink  for  your  other  customers  rather  than  trying  to  put  my  pieces  together  ,  yeah  ?  ’’

sirius looked down at one end of the bar, where two of his regulars were well-stocked up. he looked to the other end of the bar, where someone was clearly asleep with their head down on the surface. he turned his attention back to stefan. “m’alright at the moment, but i’ll let you know.” he braced his arms against the rail, mentally shrinking back with how sticky it was. someone should really clean this thing. “never actually went to uni at all,” he said. “uncle al passed a little before my parents and left me the lot. or have you been keeping track of me?”
