[ during the time of this war nobody is supposed to be here; not when the master has an errand to take care of. but an intruder waits - just an old man in a room filled with gallifreyan presence. nobody special. she greets him with a quick glance and grimaces at the age that stains his wrinkled body. the weakness that surrounds him. disgusting. ]
[ she ignores his questions while taking next steps closer towards the wall that means more than any gift, the laser screwdriver ready to take an attempt, yet she knows there is nothing more needed than one name. the smile widens, reflecting the insanity hidden in the safety of the mind that beats four. ]
[ and there it is. the crack in the fabric of time and space. the living testament of time lords. the power so great to start another path of battles. the reason for a war to consume a planet. when the master stares at it, she can imagine the consequences of what is planned for the evening. they make her laugh again. ]
❝—Get out of here, gramps.
Your mission is done, and so I will let you live, even if you don’t have that much time left.❞
[ her senses are deceived by the feeling of the species, making her unable to sense who that suffering from old age man really is. yet, on the other hand, the master doesn’t care. she stands in front of the crack, but just to lower herself to the floor and touch the broken surface of the wall in next minute. touch the rays of the energy that escapes it. ]
❝—So long I’ve waited for it. Oh, so, so long! And now, just look at you.
A bunch of scared little Lords waiting there to be saved, that’s what you are.
But there’s nothing for you here. No, no, no. Nothing. Just me.
Wait, how did you call me, again? A disease made by your own hands?
Well, that I’m grateful for.❞
[ as her fingers start tapping the rhythm of four, she leans in closer. ]
❝—Can you hear me?
Are you there, Lord President, sir? Are you listening closely?
Better be! Because now I’m going to give you what you want. The answer.❞
[ she doesn’t care if that old human is still there. none of his business. now it’s all about the revenge, the perfect revenge that soon will happen. ]
[ if she had paid attention to the 'harmless' old man sat so comfortably in his chair, she would've noticed fear and realisation span his face like a wave, a tsunami of sudden knowledge. he's ancient, but he isn't stupid, nor has he forgotten any damn part of his life, particularly not his last regeneration. ]
[ she's him. how can she be him? ]
[ all his life so loathed by so many and so much. the doctor's best friend turned arch nemesis turned saviour of earth and the universe. where do they stand now? he threatened her life and, in return, she saved his. the universe has always seen her as the villain, but in their little story, she righted her wrongs. ]
“ ——–Master. ”
[ the vague disgust in his voice is evidently not misplaced. her plan is to end the world; to restart the time war; to see trenzalore and gallifrey die in a mass of fire and ice and burning souls. such pain, such insanity, perpetually fuelling such anger and such hatred. the master, with all her lunacy and instability, can reveal the name in one breath; potentially end the universe in one breath. ]
“ I'm surprised you haven't worked it out yet. It's not difficult, and you're not stupid. Much. ”
