EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DEMON CYBORG

“I’m leaving now sensei,” Genos says as he bows. Sensei’s busy watching the television but he still turns to wave goodbye at Genos with a smile.
“Bye, get home safe,” Saitama-sensei says, and Genos tries not to smile too widely. As always, Saitama-sensei manages to make him feel so warm, and human.
He makes his way to the center on time, and Amai Mask is waiting there for him. “Remember not to disgrace the Hero Association Genos-kun,” he says, and Genos frowns.
He doesn’t care for all this talk about retaining the image of the Hero Association. What matters is to actually be a hero and save the people. Saitama-sensei has taught him that, through his display of modesty and humility.
Yet Genos understands that the Hero Association requires more funds, and this interview is one way to do so. He nods, not allowing Amai Mask to see his aggravation. He sighs, he wants to get over this stupid interview and return home to sensei. He’s planning to cook udon for sensei tonight. Sensei likes that. Perhaps tomorrow he will make curry.
He sits down in the sofa, and faces the crowd. They’re in a large room, and there are people claiming to be his fans all around the room. In front of him are four reporters, three women and a man. They’re representatives from different TV channels. The ladies look far too eager. Only the man is steadily looking at Genos with a gleam in his eyes.
Genos feels vaguely uncomfortable and he shifts slightly in his seat. They’re broadcasting the interview live. It is his first interview as a Hero, and Genos wonders why he was the one chosen when he hasn’t gone up the ranks among the S-class Heroes.
Amai Mask watches him from the shadows, and he’s reminded of his responsibility to not shame the Hero Association.
“We shall now begin the interview with the S-class Hero Demon Cyborg Genos! It’s his first interview with us, and we’re going to get so many juicy details from him today!” one of the reporter says, and there’s a thunderous applause from the crowd.
“Genos!” “Genos!” The crowd chants and he can hear some snippets of their conversation if he concentrates hard enough.
“I’m Ms Momoi, and we will begin with our representative from B Channel, Mr Tetsu.”
The man has a piercing blue gaze. “When did you become a cyborg?” the man - Mr Tetsu - asks.
“Ah, four years ago,” Genos says, and he doesn’t care to divulge the exact reason he becomes a cyborg. Sensei says that sometimes it’s good to keep things short, and not ramble out loud. 20 words or less, Genos remembers. It musn’t be longer than that.
“And you have a tragic backstory don’t you?” a lady interrupts, Genos notes that she’s the representative from MTV, Ms Yachi. She looks far too eager, and she’s practically vibrating in her seat. “I mean, that’s why you’re so cool!”
The crowd in the interview area are screaming about how cool Genos is. He doesn’t understand how they can think of him as ‘cool’ when they don’t even know who he is. They like him only based on appearance.
Genos thinks sensei is much cooler than he is. Sensei should be the one doing the interview instead!
“Why did you become a hero?” Ms Momoi asks.
“I didn’t see the point at first,” Genos answers, “But sensei wanted me to go along with him, and I requested that he take me in as a disciple if I joined the Hero Association with him.”
There is a roar from the crowd. They’re shouting questions at Genos. “Who is this sensei?” “Do you have anyone in your life that you love?” “How much of you is organic?”
“And who is this sensei of yours Demon Cyborg?” Mr Tetsu asks, although Genos thinks that he already knows the answer to that. Mr Tetsu appears to be very insightful, his eyes seeing more than what others see.
“Sensei’s name is Saitama.”
“Saitama is the B-ranked Hero nicknamed Caped Baldy isn’t he?” they whisper amongst themselves.
“He doesn’t like to be called Caped Baldy,” interrupts Genos with a glare. Sensei gets upset for days when the people on the streets call him that and Genos has been working for a way to change the name in the system without getting caught by the Hero Association.
“Why do you call him Saitama-sensei?”
“Saitama-sensei is strong and I admire him greatly,” Genos says, and he cannot help but smile. “He has taught me many things which I would not have learnt without him.” The thought of sensei makes him happy, and he smiles brightly.
The crowd goes wild. “He’s smiling!” “Oh my god, he looks so cute when he smiles!” “He.. He looks like he’s in love!”
“Is this going to go on any longer?” Genos says, it’s only been 10 minutes but he’s already restless. He wonders what sensei is doing right now. He still has a small smile on his face. “Sensei is amazing,” he adds, because it should be said.
The reporters are writing furiously in their notepads.
“Who inspires you?” Ms Kiyoko asks, and it’s the first question she’s asked Genos today. She’s soft-spoken, and appears demure.
“Saitama-sensei inspires me,” Genos says.
“He’s only a B-class hero!” Ms Momoi says, and Genos frowns.
“Ranks do not matter to Saitama-sensei,” he says, “He is a hero. He saves people. His strength is unparalleled.”
“Is he blinded by love or something? How can a B-class Hero be stronger than an S-class Hero?” “He must be delusional.” “Is that Saitama using some sort of hypnosis on Genos?”
“You appear to admire this Saitama a lot,” Mr Tetsu comments. He hums to himself as he scribbles some more notes.
“Of course,” Genos says, “There will never be anyone like sensei,” he beams.
“Oh my god,” he hears Ms Momoi say, “He looks so cute when he smiles like that.”
“Demon Cyborg!” the overenthusiastic Ms Yachi yells, her high-pitched voice causing Genos to wince, “Are you in a relationship?”
Genos frowns, what does that have to do with the Hero Association? He goes through his mental catalogue.
