          ❝  shara ! i said m’fine, will ya’ stop pushin’ me ?!  ❞          he wasn’t fine, as a matter of fact…  sweating profusely due to a fever that was undoubtedly much too high for a human, and there had been a brief flashback of some sort of ailment he had a child, a fever that put him on bed rest  (  and made him lose consciousness  )  for a straight week. there’s a thought, it only lasts a moment, if this was that all over again. doubtful, but nevertheless:  he felt like fodder  ——  voice carrying throughout private quarters that would surely be heard by others…  it’s unsurprising shara, of all people, was overpowering him…  more so unsurprising that  (  leia, probably  )  someone put her on MAKING SURE HAN GET’S REST duty. though the corellian sighs after a moment, and gives in, frustratedly flopping down against a bunk that was far too soft and not at all the millennium falcon.

“Han, are you going to stop lying to me or are you going to lay down and let me take care of you?” Shara was somewhere between laughing and smacking the man. Of course, she knew he was trying to keep from being taken care of. He was always one to try to take care of someone else rather than let himself be taken care of. So walking over to him, she took his hands in hers and held them until he stopped trying to push her away. “Listen. This is serious. Your fever is dangerously high and you standing up and swinging at me?” She was fairly certain he didn’t even realize he was doing that. “It isn’t helping. I’m asking you to sit with me on the couch. Please. As soon as I get this out of you, you can run off and play with your friends.” Shara didn’t give him the option to answer. Instead, she took his hands and led him to the bunk, making him lay before sitting down at his head, lifting him slightly, and sliding under him so that his head laid across her lap. So took a cold wash cloth and held it across his head with one hand while the other gently raked through his hair. It was an attempt at calming him down, forcing him to accept that he was sick and needed to be taken care of.

"Finn. I need you to come over here and sit down. Relax." Shara couldn't always find the right words. To tell him he was good enough, that he didn't have to earn their love. That the Finn that sat with her in the morning just to talk was as loved, as perfect as the Finn who pushed himself to be the best at everything he did. "Besides, I sliced too much of this meiloorun fruit and I need help eating it. So it doesn't go to waste, of course." A teasing smile, full of the love she held for her son.

              it’s not that he makes it a habit to sneak around but being silent, being quiet and going unnoticed is simply a bad habit. he’s still trying to kick off the habit of falling into the trooper’s march sometimes, is it any wonder that finn goes from room to room without any fanfare?

                                        but shara knows better. she knows best.

              a beat. he’s been caught now. and he finds that he doesn’t mind so much when she looks at him with warm eyes, the platter of fruits before her. he knows it’s on purpose and she knows he knows so there’s no point in pretending but finn finds that he appreciates the effort anyway. with a small smile, he nods, changing his course of direction towards her.

                       ❝i like meiloorun fruit. oh, did you want— something to drink?❞

⤑ finn will always wander back into the kitchen after meals and hover until shara puts him to work. he’s pretty good at washing the dishes, no doubt about it.

⤑ they’re both pretty light sleepers, the life of soldiers. finn doesn’t mean to interrupt her but shara knocks on his door one night ( his door— finn’s still not used to that ) and when he opens it, too bright eyes that betray just how long he’s been awake, she asks he join her downstairs. she tells him stories, all sorts of tales, mostly of the civil war, at least half of them featuring her husband and even more featuring tiny poe dameron. finn listens attentively and tries to fit himself in the picture he’s formed in his head.

⤑ shara knows the most vulgar curses. finn listens on in glee and stores them for future use.

⤑ she cries when he calls her ‘ma’ that one time. finn doesn’t remember how he started too.

“Finn! Good morning dear, I hope your hungry because I made breakfast.” The woman smiles, walking over to wrap her arms around the boy’s shoulders. She doesn’t think much of it. Shara is a bit of a hugger. Openly showing her affection to whomever is closest to her at the time. Taking a step back, she offered an apologetic smile once she realized she had pulled the poor boy into a hug. “Sorry about that. It’s just..habit I suppose.” Her laugh was light and her smile was wide as she stepped out of his way so he could get to the food.

Small headcanon that, since Shara worried that the war would never actually end, she left holovids for Poe. In her mind, there was no end in sight. They fought with everything they had, and she would happily continue to fight, in hopes of a better life for her son, her husband, their family.

But because of those worries, when Kes and Poe were out, or asleep, she would record small holovids to leave for him. Some of them had stories. Stories of things he had done, how excited she was over his first steps, his first words. How much she loved his smile. How she was the luckiest mom in the world because she had such a sweet, beautiful little boy for her son.

And some of the holovids were advice. Shara left him advice on how to ask the person he cared about out on a date. She told him that any woman or man would be lucky to have him. And that when someone caught his eye, he should take a chance. Talk to them. Love them. Because life is too short not to allow yourself love. She wanted her son to have everything he could ever want, even if she wouldn’t be there to see it.

Poe Dameron // Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) was the son of Lieutenant Shara Bey and Sergeant Kes Dameron of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and he grew up hearing some of the tales of their battles during the Galactic Civil War, particularly his father’s. 

Dameron followed in his late mother’s footsteps and became a pilot, serving the New Republic and became the commander of Rapier Squadron.
