My mom called me frantically today bc she accidentally let my dog out and the dog ran away (she’s back now). On the phone she was clearly upset but also like...preemptively mad and defensive because she thought I was going to be mad at her? I had to say “I’m not mad at you” twice in our frantic conversation bc she kept getting defensive. It’s so weird being old enough to see the weird ways your parents are just fucked up and emotionally stunted from their own childhoods.
