In my opinion, “Demons of the Punjab” is the best episode of series 11, so far. It is a well-written and compelling story that has well-formed and interesting characters, both new and old, that demand compassion from the audience. This episode is also the first episode of the series to have a truly compelling “villain” and plot in general. Vinay Patel did a fabulous job of balancing the excitement of the sci-fi genre with the complexities of a character driven drama in this episode. This comfortable balance was something that I had become accustomed to with Doctor Who and felt was severely lacking in this series, until now. Hopefully, the series will continue to get even better as Chibnall fully settles into his role as head writer and executive producer.
