it’s LITERALLY been 4,000 years since I did one of these! But it’s finally time!
introducing one of my suitor ocs, Cynnus of Same!
welcome to my favorite hobby, finding random suitors who were not mentioned in the Odyssey but in the list of suitors on Wikipedia and turning them into OCs
and that’s how I got this silly blonde twink
(technically not my first post with him, as he does appear in my suitor pottery art 👀)
Cynnus was born in Same to a noble family. While a bit of a diva and a shameless flirt, he’s not really an active threat. He’s far more likely to hit on his fellow suitors and provide empty compliments than cause problems!
(The animal he’s based on is a sheep, which reflects a lot in his personality and appearance 👀)
my favorite stupid joke with him also is that he can be shipped with any Agelaus, but ESPECIALLY the ones based on dogs (wink wink)
og base art of Agelaus by @messymoonmad 👀
for more info about my silly sheep twink, headcanons under the cut
- 24-25 years old
- 5’10” and technically thin but has very little muscle tone
- actually gay. He has no interest in women whatsoever. He vaguely pretends like he likes them to keep up appearances but he’s really just here to flirt with hot men and get away from his father’s expectations
- like I said, he’s based on a sheep. Specifically the idea that he’s very social and finds himself in need of conversation (and attention) and will do just about anything to get it
- expert at giving compliments. Even if they’re empty ones, they make a person endeared to him which keeps him from getting picked on or worse, falling behind
- If he does insult you, it will be covert, hidden behind a fake compliment
- A huge coward. He’s absolutely useless in a fight or any physical activity really. He tends to use stronger people as shields
- this comes into play during the slaughter of the suitors, but eventually he runs out of people to hide with
- Very focused on his reputation and his image
- Also very meticulous about his appearance, and loves fine clothes and looking good. Tends to get upset if it gets messed up somehow
- Craves true emotional connection but knows he’ll never get it so he thrives on false connection and meaningless hookups instead
- His mother died when he was about four, giving birth to his younger sister Kyllene. He’s been raised by his father Dolion ever since, a man with very high expectations and little warmth or compassion
- This is a large reason for him craving intimacy. In a sense the suitors have become his “flock”
- He gets along fairly well with most of them, as he’s fairly satisfied with not being first in the pecking order as long as he’s not on the bottom
- Agelaus tends to be his favorite, but there are…..exceptions
- he finds Antinous very attractive and will hit on him at times in a “subtle” way
- doesn’t tend to get along too well with Eurymachus (they exchange snide veiled insults) or Leodes (he finds him dreadfully boring)
- He tends to be snobby and hold disdain for the servants, but no real malice or aggression.
- Very snide and fake nice to Telemachus, and praises Penelope, but gets a bit and awkward about it
- he loves dogs but pretends like they’re icky at times due to slobber and dirt
- (But he slips Argos scraps sometimes when no one is looking)
...okay listen college (and crippling anxiety) is kicking my ass
(Guess who's Vitamin D deficient and low in iron!!!)
....uh ANYWAY have a break from my regularly scheduled OC content because I became obsessed with a side character from the Odyssey and I had to design him
So here's my Phemius! (The bard that unwillingly entertains the suitors)
....he is everything to me
(now you may be asking....Robyn, did you really design the bard before the other suitors? And the answer is....yes :) )
rendered the piece with lighting too because I have problems
Despite being hella busy this man has dominated my notebook doodles for the past like month and a half lmaooo
fun fact, the lyre is based on one of the few depictions of Phemius I could find?
but outside of that I (yet again) took a page out of @messymoonmad's book with the animal design inspo (sue me it's a cool idea)
So he's based on a European Robin! (Bc....songbird? Also I liked the color scheme :)))))
such a delightful lad
yes he is part of the bird boy squad (I'm making this a thing. Kidding. Mostly.)
Some headcanons (liberties were taken because The Odyssey doesn't give me a lot to go off of)
- 28-29 years old
- 5'9" with just a little chub. He's got a lil dad bod
- beautiful singing voice. I keep thinking of Damon Dauno's Orpheus (AKA Off-Broadway Hadestown Orpheus. Exposing my Hadestown love ig lmao. I love Broadway Hadestown but if you HAVEN'T listened to the Off-Broadway Epic III it is ETHEREAL)
- Very gifted with words…but only through music. Outside of that he’s more reserved and soft spoken
- He can't speak to save his life and has a speech impediment that gets much worse when he's nervous (most of the time)
- He has so many thoughts in his head but the words get all jumbled up when he tries to speak, leading to a LOT of stammering and repeating words
- (Because of this, he avoids speaking in front of the suitors at all costs lmao)
- Unfortunately he does have to sing for them
- He's the PALACE'S bard. He works for the Ithacan royal family specifically (idk if patronage was a system in Ancient Greece but something along those lines makes the most sense to me here)
- therefore he's obligated to perform for them for hospitality reasons(like how the staff has to serve them)
- He LOVES singing and also memorizing/reciting epic (heh)s. He's a massive nerd and would ramble about historical events for hours if you let him
- he also writes songs of his own but he doesn't share those much
- He dislikes the suitors immensely and hates performing for them. He would tell them off if he could but even if he tried he'd just stammer his way through it
- He's a doormat. Not because he doesn't CARE about the way he's treated but because he can't speak up about it
- (He mostly just seethes in silence)
- He dislikes Eurymachus in particular (presumably because of how smoothly he's able to speak and charm people?)
- (.....that may not be the only reason though)
- A sensitive and sweet soul, feels emotions through music very strongly
- A MASSIVE romantic and adores love songs, but too shy to actually pursue anyone
- he does have feelings for someone, but they don't know/don't return them (hint: it's not one of the suitors wink wink) 😏
If you're interested all you gotta do is dm me with the ref of your character and their height + any additional detail you want like expression etc. I'll send you the sketch then you can pay me. The drawing will be fully rendered.
(It's 10$ if you're a patreon! You can dm me there)
me???? actually posting art???? it’s more likely than you would think
so the context for this is that I saw a tiktok about drawing your ocs in time period accurate portraits, so this is….KINDA that except it’s all of my suitor ocs in a style meant to emulate ancient greek pottery 👀
this was VERY fun to do but done over several months. I wasn’t actually planning to put the three parts together, it just worked out that way!
so from left to right we have Cynnus, Nikolas, and Ormenius
(lore about the other two coming eventually)
also I got bored and did @messymoonmad’s Leodes (with some additional liberties taken on the style) bc he’s a very pretty boy
and then because I love angst with all of my heart and soul, I decided to do a dark twist and depict their deaths during the slaughter of the suitors!
TW!!!!: drawn gore, blood, and decapitation under the cut. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
(Leodes is my favorite even if it’s deeply depressing)
I can’t really get into their deaths without saying much concerning lore, but let’s just say their deaths are reflective of their characters in some respect
(if anyone points out the most diabolical part of this art, you get a cookie!)
It's finally here! I hope you all enjoy this chapter.
"B-but MJ!" I hear you yell, "I was promised hoinky boinky!" Well fear not, dear reader. You can find the hoinky boinky on bluesky, X, and my patreon!
I'm working to make my comic available on comicfury as well. I highly suggest you look at the additional 7 pages on bluesky. (I worked really hard on them!)
Recently I redrew this image because I thought it'd be interesting to have a version with the Hades 2 design instead. Didn't realize how long it'd been until I checked the date on the image.
I don't often do redraws because I usually don't keep old artwork, but I hope you guys enjoy seeing the improvement/change to my style. Looks like Hermes got more color, AND an improved workout routine.
Hey if my Antinous jumped at your suitors, would any of them catch him?
Antinous: would stand to the side and watch him fall. 100%. Would also probably point and laugh.
Eurymachus: would probably get crushed but at least he would die happy! (My Antinous drags him out of the way)
Amphinomus: has absolutely ZERO chance of catching him! But he WILL make a valiant effort before giving up and asking if he's okay
Leodes: will shuffle away and pretend he saw nothing! He's not messing with all of that today I fear.
Agelaus: *watches him fall* Woah, dude. You okay? That's rough buddy.
Amphimedon: might catch him. Will not do so unless it's a reflex!
Ctesippus: yeah, no. No chance he catches him. He WILL move out of the way and try to muffle his laughter before failing though. (Good luck trying to catch him!)
Nikolas: will watch him fall and do absolutely NOTHING to help. He might get a snort out of him, but that's about it.
Cynnus: will shriek and get out of the way to avoid getting crushed. BUT he WILL offer to help after and "accidentally" fall onto his chest! Oops!
