I'll probably reblog prompts from various sources and maybe add details or idea to the prompt that I have. I will also *hopefully* be releasing my stored up mostly formed ideas that are too detailed to just be prompts. So I'm in the midst of writing a first part in a series of consequences from a particular canon episode of TW. I was wondering if you've ever had second thoughts about posting something. I've been rereading this part to see what I'm missing. And it's driving me crazy, cause part of me is like, delete this shit, the other part is like, no, keep it, it's good. And a third part is like, you need to add more. But I don't see where. How do you do it?

You’ve pretty much described my entire writing process here! This is why I struggle with things like big bangs, I think–if I can write on the fly and pants the hell out of a thing, and post it the moment I spellcheck it, I’m fine with that. But for some reason having to finish a thing, and having it sitting there looking at me… that’s when the doubts creep in! 

But this is where your betas come in, I think. Send it to them. Ask them what chances they’d make, or what bits don’t quite work for them. 

Sometimes a pair of eyes that aren’t as judgey as your own is the best thing you can do for a fic.

you can also trick your brain to look at it with a bit of distance, which is amazing for finding spelling mistakes and bad punctuation and the reason why as soon as you print it off you find them

if you have calibre set it up to read on an ereader, something you can’t edit, and read it as if it was a published novel

your brain will treat it as if it was someone else’s work and it gives you a step back

or change the font and size and print it off - that works too

i have no idea why it works, but it does work

the printing one i picked up at uni for essays, but it works just as well for fics,

95% of writing is convincing yourself it isn’t shit and even if it is people will still like it, your internal editor lies, stephen king has one too, and all those mediocre white authors they just tell them to fuck off

you need to tell them to fuck off and write it, edit later

Or change the font. That's good for catching all sorts of things because you're seeing it differently.

All my collectors

I have started a collection of collectors for writers. I have one for prompts, one for authors, and one for betas.

I wanted to have them all in one place so they didn’t have to be reblogged separately. (If you want to only share one of the collectors a post for each can be found on my blog)

I have also considered an art prompt/artist collector but I know very very little about that side of fandom and don’t know if I could make it any good or if it would have any response.

Beta Collector

With my prompt and author collectors released out into wilds of Tumblr, I have realized it would probably be best to have one for betas too.

It came to my attention that while I have collectors for Authors and Prompts and offered beta help to the authors, I did not have a collector for betas to help the authors. I am sure there are lots of betas out there looking for authors to work with and I am ready and willing to help you connect with new authors, possibly ones who are having just as hard a time finding a beta as you are finding a writer.

So I know you're busy in real life but I was wondering if you ever take prompts or know of anyone who does? I remember there was a surge of fics where Derek as the alpha feels he needs to help his betas through their heats and while they're all angsty and I enjoy them, sometimes the payoff isn't worth the angst. A plot bunny I've had is the same premise of Derek "needing" to share a heat with Erica but neither of them really wanting to. Derek is with Stiles and Erica is with Boyd. Part 1/?

Derek with the mindset of it’s something he has to do and would have no enjoyment of it, just someone using his body for their needs again. Erica jokes around with the pack but in private she’s disgusted because she thought the days of her body betraying her were over. Ultimately no cheating takes place. Stiles does what he does best and researches and finds that Erica’s wolf is trying to intice the alpha with offspring show strength and stability by expanding the family line. Part 2/?

Erica’s wolf only feels like this because even though Derek and Stiles are mated, it feels like an incomplete mating. So Stiles does some Alpha Mate posturing to “prove” himself capable and worthy of being Derek’s mate, tosses Boyd a baddragon knotting dildo and then comforts Derek “You’re Mom was alpha, was she ever forced to assist in a beta’s heat?” Basically angst with a dash of humor and a HEA. I don’t think that I would write this one anon, because I don’t really write polyamorous pack. ButI do love the idea, and I think it’s really interesting, and I would love to see what someone else would make of it.
