As the curtain pulled aside to showcase the silver screen, and the movie started, I was instantly transported into the most elegant era in fashion; the 1920`s. The grand parties I was taken to, the crystal dresses that mimicked the luxurious crystal chandeliers in his house. The Great Gatsby took my breath away. Wardrobe designers Catherine Martin, Brooks Brothers, Miuccia Prada and Miu Miu couldn`t have created a more exquisite array of garments. Head to toe, the actors and actresses were dressed to kill, layered in gorgeous linen suits, boater hats, suspenders, tuxedos, drop waist flapper dresses, Tiffany & Co. arm candy, diamond bracelets, earrings, beads, rings, pearl necklaces, headbands,turbans, t-strapped shoes, and fine furs. Every scene was grand; the cars, the music, the outrageously opulent Gatsby estate, dripping in swank and excess. The plot, a tragic love story reminding me of the modern day Romeo & Juliet dragged out a little bit. However, the visionary appeal made up for the last half hour where my knees began to ache. The Great Gatsby is jaw dropping for both men’s and women’s fashion. You will be hit in the face with confetti filled glamour bombs the minute the movie starts.
