So what be the condition of the Macbook you ask? Here they are at the bottom of this post - in glorious 5 mp detail from my Nokia Lumia 710.
So the first thing that I did yesterday was to take it to Maple Apple Authorized Service Centre. They looked at it and nodded sadly, not covered by the APP, they said. Cost of repair? 39k. Well, I can't afford that - which I told them.
On a side note, while I was there, one gentleman turned up with an iMac under his arm. What business did he have there? Well, that was his second iMac, he wanted his other one back and submit this one. The issue? He wanted Windows installed via Bootcamp. If I wasn't so tensed about my Mac, I would have burst out laughing, seriously.
There were two iPhones also. And one iPod Touch. All with some malady to be repaired.
So after getting the news of the cost of the repair, I flatly told them I can't afford it. The guy tried again, going in with the Mac and checking again if it could fall under APP. No. Well, let it be then.
So what were the options now? Either going to a third party for repair and losing out on my APP - or getting a HDMI adapter out and use the laptop as a desktop.
While using a secondary monitor stays the last option, I'm in talks with my vendor in Calcutta to figure if it can be repaired for cheap.
Having no need of a laptop in office while I was working (on iMac without Bootcamp, if you're interested to know) - I went home to realize that my roommate has shifted out. Gone with him and all the furniture is the router as well. Ah well, 3G is there. So no worry.
With my favourite RSS reader on my Lumia (Pulse), I read all the sites I read daily. The Verge, Gizmodo, Techcrunch, WPCentral. Etc. (On another side note, The Verge's Offline series of articles are the main inspiration of this blog. And also PC World's Tony Bradley's 30 day series).
Only then did I realize that I had to make a phone call - and I was out of credit. Usually it's a no brainer, log onto the Vodafone site, recharge online with my debit card. However, without a laptop, that proved a problem.
First, the mobile version of Vodafone's site does allow for credit recharge - but only accepts credit cards. So, a dead end there. But wait! The Internet Explorer on the Windows Phone platform supports full desktop sites. But, that also proved a big fail. Everything happened till the time I was supposed to be redirected to my bank's authentication. Failed transaction - it came back to the Vodafone site.
I gave up. But not before trying another way. I took out the damaged Mac. Hey! Half of the screen still works, I would manage to get the phone recharged, right? Wrong. The router was gone, remember? So, no internet to connect to. Plugging in the LAN cable didn't help. Did my internet require some authentication? No idea. The provider had set up the router themselves.
Free 3G! But no. The Lumia doesn't still allow a Hotspot functionality. (It's rumoured that it's coming with Windows Phone Apollo, but it's not there yet). Nor do I know of any app that can make the Lumia into a hotspot. It's funny because on my previous phone, the E63, however little apps I did have, I did have an app to create hotspots from.
So end result? Couldn't recharge the phone. I gave up. Went to sleep.
