Addiction
Stars shine so bright in the night sky,
Darkness with small spots of bright light.
But stars burn out, the lights dim low,
My life is left with no more hope.
The light, the good, has gone so fast,
Left with the pain of all my past.
Now pain, it reigns supreme again,
My light, my love, is lost but then–
A friend appears, and offers hope,
I took her hand – I did not know.
Addiction is this friend of mine,
She helps me up and says I’m fine.
“Your body heals,” I am assured,
“The soul’s deep pain is worse for sure.”
My friend, she takes that pain away,
But it comes back then, every day.
I need her more, I need her most,
What can I do but hold her close?
Those I once loved are enemies;
You can’t take her away from me!
I fade into a pain-filled ghost,
A razor is my last resort.
