Cabby is like an unintentional metaphor for being autistic in a very particular way. Like everyone just fucking hates her for no legitimate reason. The way she exists makes everyone uncomfortable and this is positioned as her fault. Test tube says she's "scaring people" when she's just trying to fit in and doing nothing wrong. She has no one to stand up for her and tell her she's being mistreated so she just accepts it. Her disability aid is treated as Bad And Weird just because no one understands it. She's punished for not following an unstated social rule (treating the game as... yknow A Game and being competitive but oh no she's not supposed to do that, no one told her this but it's still somehow her fault for not knowing). This show makes me want to hurt myself and others

There are layers to this. Earlier in the episode, Xena discovers her secret while they're sharing a locker room. A woman she has got naked with turned out to be trans. It's the exact scenario terfs are always fear-mongering about, but Xena just shrugs it off.

Also, the kiss was a big deal not just because it was gay but because the trans actress was HIV positive. They wanted to show the world that you can't contract HIV just from kissing someone. Bear in mind, the AIDS crisis was still fresh on people's minds in the 90s.
