I am so tired of this demand for sanitation of rep. That's not real. That's not what being queer is really like and to represent it as such is a disingenuous take on the queer experience.

ESPECIALLY in times like these were queer people are being politically targeted en masse ON PURPOSE.

Being queer, or trans, or gay is NEVER all sunshine and roses, let alone in times of massive turmoil for the entire community.

Take your willingness to be puritanical and conservative and digestible to those who would rather live in a world in which you don't exist and shove it.

It's not truly accurate queer rep if it's not allowed to be messy, or sad, or hard to watch because our lives are messy, and sad, and hard to watch.

The point of representation is to be ugly and honest and in your face. It's supposed to be uncomfortable BECAUSE it's supposed to make people face hard truths.

Sanitation of Jax's struggle with her identity would be a denial of all the horrendous things the world has done to make her feel unsafe to be herself in the first place. All of you asking for sanitized trans rep are the same people who want black history sanitized from our schools because it makes white children "uncomfortable".

Go to hell.

WOW so turns out you guys really like my Jaz redesign! I needed an excuse to make a proper reference sheet of her for my future works, so here you go! Feel free to draw her if you like, I just ask that I'm credited for this specific design.

Additional notes: As I've mentioned in previous artwork, her hair and post-abstraction marks do sometimes take an iridescent/rainbow shine depending on her mood (think Rumi from KPDH). Otherwise, I tend to keep the marks this solid purple color for most shots.

Medic: Medic is already so associated with wolves. His most iconic cosmetic is from a werewolf set. Since I'm not huge on anthro birds, this was a natural choice. Ultimately, though, I wasn't satisfied with making him a pure wolf; they way they are in Beastars doesn't really suit his personality, imo. So I went with a wolfdog; dogs, as mentioned in Sniper's sheet, are weird in Beastars. They were created via genetic engineering in the early 1900s after a war that led to the union of carnivore and herbivore societies, and are specifically geared towards harmony with herbivores, down to to their brains being primed to not question authority. Really begs the question, what happens to a wolf-dog hybrid? I imagine it varies from individual to individual, but for Medic, it means having a prey drive but no capacity to eat meat, giving him the infamous habit of "playing with food" as an illegitimate surgeon.

Sniper: you won't find "new zealand heading dog" in any kennel club registry. These working dogs are a sub-breed of border collies, bred to be taller, quieter, and do their work with their signature "stare" that silently influences the herd. As they have no specific appearance requirements, they are often difficult to tell from standard border collies, which worked out for Sniper's adoptive parents. While he's "not quite right", his extremely keen sense of sight led well to his future line of work, as did his temperament - like any dog, he does whatever he's told respectfully, efficiently, and without a second thought. (At least he didn't become a cop like most dogs in this universe, lol)

Spy: I already explained Spy a good deal in the little comic I did addressing his backstory, so instead of rehashing that, I'm gonna show a quick little base edit ref I did of his pelt to show what I mean by saying tht his outfit masks him as a "standard" fox (if a little pale)
