nisaac animation I’ve been working on for a bit I miss them bro <\3

To recover from the stress of med school (exams in September are a sign of Satan's influence on the world) I've been re-reading some of @therealvinelle and @thecarnivorousmuffinmeta 's brilliant fics (seriously, I spent whole afternoons laughing like an idiot).

To have it set in the muffinelle-verse I used these for the casting:

Carlisle

Renata (with a charming fur hat)

Aro

Here's a some quick paintings of a scene from Nebuchadenezzar's Dream, as screenshots form an hypothetical movie.

(Luckily all other characters don't have any close up shot and can have vague and blurry features.)

Overall it was a fun exercise in working fast and loose and not getting bogged down in the details as I usually do when I work digitally.

Aro Volturi and his relationships

(Aro and his wife Sulpicia, Aro and Carlisle, Views on infidelity and monogamy from an Ancient Greek perspective)

Whenever the conversation of Aro and Carlisle having a little thing going on while he was in Volterra (iykyk), people always bring up Aros wife Sulpicia. While I disagree that Aro doesn’t care about her, I feel like we need to be reminded of where Aro comes from.. Ancient GREECE.

Now while polygamy in most city-states it was illegal and frowned upon (which some exceptions of for example Sparta) it wasn’t uncommon for the Ancient Greek men to have a concubine or pallakai who was essentially a sexual slave who wasn’t recognised as a wive. In what we consider Polygamy to be today the Ancient Greeks most definitely practised it as they had multiple wives and concubines.

Societal norms and subjects we consider taboo have evolved overtime and while Aros distinct era of Ancient Greece has their own views and values around monogamy and infidelity, he was also lived through a lot of different eras that would further shape this view.

I believe Aro in his own twisted way does love his wife Sulpicia (I mean twisted cuz she’s literally locked up) however the concept we have in the modern world of cheating and infidelity wouldn’t have existed in his time therefore making the argument that he and Carlisle did have a relationship of sorts not out of the question if we argue that he’s already married.
