PSA: potential new scam

I don’t know if it’s a new surge of bots and scams, but lately there are a lot of blogs who reblog people’s posts with “tap here for more” link in big text. I looked through some of these blogs, and their blogs are just them reblogging a whole lot of people’s posts with “tap here for more” link. I obviously did not click on the link.

another thing I’d like to add is that these blogs aren’t recently made or empty blogs with no pfp or header. they appear to be normal blogs with pfp, headers, names, bios, fandoms, interests and such. so my guess is that they were genuine, legit blogs before they were hacked. and the hackers use their blogs to spread their link, and potentially scam more people, whatever the link is.

unfortunately it is a well known tactic bots and scammers use — hacking an innocent blog, because they know it’s more convincing than creating a new and empty blogs like before, and then using the blog to help them scam more people.

be careful y’all. if someone dm or inboxes you “I have something important to tell you 🥺 it’s about your account” block and report them. that’s a scam. they will try to convince you they accidentally reported your blog because they mistook you for someone else who scammed them, they may even tell you they have “already gave your blog to the police” then they’ll say something about “don’t worry. you can contact this person *gives you a sketchy discord link*” then “this person” will claim they work with tumblr (lie) and they will tell you you have to change the email you associate your tumblr with to the new one they give you. the second you do that, your entire account is gone. if you change the email you associate your tumblr with to their email, they have full control of your account. that’s how they hack people.

i read among the burning flowers over the weekend and now I'm doing a reread of priory of the orange tree for the first time in 4-5 years and uh. I'm reading the polish translation because that's what i have and uh. i think it's either really clear that it's the only book in the series translated by a man or it was really unfortunate that he was translating the first book bc

1) glorian III is constantly referred to using he/him pronouns when she's not called the queen despite the fact that it's very clear that a) she's a berethnet b) there's a description of her statue pregnant (she's referred to with the correct pronouns) c) there's a dialogue about her marriage to Guma Vetalda which implies that Guma Vetalda was the one who gave birth (to a healthy baby at that) at 74 years of age lol d) literally all berethnet queens have names ending with an "n" (it's customary in polish for women names to end with "a") e) other queens named glorian, which are referred to as "queen glorian [number]", are gendered correctly f) she's gendered correctly when there are a couple sentences about her and the following ones use pronouns instead of her name, but not when there's one sentence which (i assume) would not use pronouns in the original English text (quick reminder that polish is more heavily gendered than English and our verbs also conjugate depending on the gender of the subject of the sentence)

2) less importantly and there's only one error like that, but selinu, father of cleolind, is once referred to as a woman in context of the current queen/empress of lasya bc we're told that she (the current monarch) is related to cleolind in direct line. i will admit, bc he was referred to with the wrong pronouns, i had no idea how it makes that monarch related to cleolind in a direct line bc previously and after that he was referred to correctly. and we're also told that the Prioress often writes to him instead of the current monarch of lasya lol that's kinda beside the point but it added to my confusion

And like. Those are egregious errors in translation and I wonder how did they even pass?? I didn't catch it the first time I was reading the book (or at least I don't remember it) but the inconsistencies probably makes reading for a polish reader harder than it is for an english one which IS NOT THE POINT OF TRANSLATION??? i wonder how it even got past two people in charge of editing the book bc i also checked some polish reviews and there are people noticing that glorian is sometimes a woman and sometimes a man on their first read so

also it's baffling to me that when there's a (gender neutral) name mentioned in context of a matriarchal society but no heroical deeds attached to that name then it's a woman, but when it is a hero, in context of a long line of ONLY queens, then suddenly it's a man??

Yes, there is a line. There are confluences you can see and touch and they are NOT subtle in the slightest.

That's the Atlantic and the Caribbean on a particularly pronounced day.

This is the Indian and the Pacific. It's not always this obvious everywhere but the dividing lines are very much there.

Oceans have their own properties as far as temperature and salinity and unless something like a storm or a current forces them to mix they won't. Mostly this applies to vertical mixing and it gives you things like thermoclines and haloclines but water is wierd and won't mix horizontally either.

The ocean basins tend to have their own currents that go in a circle and define that ocean, and those patterns mix the water within that ocean. Like a washing machine.

The Caribbean has a little loop of its own that not on this map, but that current keeps that ocean pretty internally consistent. It's got clear warm water because of the shallow bowl of limestone sand it sits in. Where it meets the Atlantic with wildly different conditions the water is traveling in opposite directions, and it acts kind of like an oncoming lane of highway traffic. Species that have adapted to a narrow band of temperatures and salinities (most fish) can't cross, while species with a stronger homeostasis hang out there on purpose, (marine mammals, turtles, sharks). Plankton, that cannot control their horizontal movement in the water column, are held in their home territories by these barriers.

Also a reminder that this scene was cut out from the Polish version (as well as some other translations) of The Burning Bridge, together with the all the other chapters about Halt and Alyss little adventure so despite reading RA numerous times as a child and a big fan I only learnt about those scenes a couple of years ago when I started interacting with the English fandom

i had a dream that I went to my local bookstore and not only john flanagan had died without me finding out about it, there also had been three books published which were a continuation of the royal ranger and they were all written by different authors??? (I'm 99% sure my brain made up their surnames + i remember seeing them but i don't remember what they were)

i also didn't like read the books in my dream, but the publisher called them something along the lines of a "worthy continuation" or sth like that (I'm polish so in my dream a went into a polish bookstore with books in polish so. i also only ever read RA in polish)
