Q: What about the names "Sirius" or "Astre" or (other name)? A: They're great... What about them? Unless you have evidence to refute anything I've said, or can explain why either of them are more likely choices within the narrative, do not message me about this. I've yet to be convinced.

Q: I don't agree with your perception of "Real Ciel" because a five-year-old wouldn't do that. A: I've answered this before many times, but sadly, that's not true at all. Here's my current view on the matter. Q: Are you selling Phantomhive Ring replicas? A: No I'm not, please see this previously answered ask for further explanation. The Ring is not for sale and wasn't made with the intention to be sold or replicated.

Q: Are you selling/sharing the 3D model of the ring? A: Short answer is, no. Long answer is... I do not have the model file. However, it is also not for sale. It is not something that is going to be shared for any reason at any price, unless you're Yana Toboso. Even if your intentions are pure and you actually only intend to print a single ring, understand I trust no one. There is virtually nothing stopping someone from sharing it with whoever they feel like for free, or going into business trying to make Phantomhive Rings themselves; printing them/putting them together with cheaper materials. That's not something I'm interested in, which is why I'm not doing it myself, and I am much less interested in giving someone the tool to do it themselves. There are other jewelry makers on Esty and otherwise who have tried to put their spin on replicating the ring, and there's also the official one. Also very important: THIS RING WILL NOT EVEN PRINT TO SPEC UNLESS IT'S ON A VERY SPECIFIC MACHINE LOCATED IN BELGIUM. I imagine if you tried to print it on a different Machine, it would not turn out well and I have no promise it would print without a flaw again. Also... you'd have to heavily modify this file to get the ring size you want, and @noirserviteur worked hard on it. I don't want anyone to modify a single thing.

Rambling about the chapter... (spoilers)

This is just thinking aloud, but if this demon wasn't Sebastian and it was some other character... I hope it's at least one we've seen before, and the visuals were HEAVILY tampered with. From the visual standpoint I'd be kind of disappointed to know demons looked so similar to one another to the point they may as well be clones to human eyes. It would also be... way, way more funny if Sebastian just forgot about all this because most contracts just don't mean much to him. I'm sure the vast majority of us... if we were given a random specific date 6 months ago, couldn't remember exactly what we ate that day. I'm sure demons are not that different. I think it's fine if it really is just Sebastian, and the face and alias are censored for different reasons. The 'false memory' narrative is really interesting though and has a lot of potential if well thought-out. UT can extend cinematic records so that the dolls can go on living, and record new memories. Thus we haven't been given a reason why he couldn't cut-and-edit the past and very real, true memories if he wanted to do so. The concept is interesting (and terrifying) I'm just not sure if that's what is happening here, specifically or not. Could it really have been a different culprit, not Sebastian, is UT is the best film editor of all time. It's an interesting idea. Either way I think we're supposed to keep guessing right now but damn if this isn't locking me in. I'm afraid.... that I love it. Very quietly .... It also begs the question IF that's possible, and introduced to the plot... if he's memory tampered with the bizarre doll that call's itself 'Ciel'. What's interesting (if that is happening) is that he can't take the actual-pain away, but he can twist the narrative, and shift the targets of that pain. Also Modri. With a heavy heart. I can't stop thinking about him. At first I wasn't sure what the religious shit was about, or if his name came about for a different reason (as many kuro characters so often do) so I didn't want to assume where he came from or anything ... I tried to ignore him with the energy of a school child holding a folder at the side of their face to ignore someone, but now that we have more backstory... So he's eastern orthodox... an old school Romanian Orthodox at that, and now all of the sudden this God-stuff and the piety make so much more sense, for those with eyes to see. It's all coming together (don't let eastern orthodoxy become a special interest if you're unaware) now and I can't ignore him. If he was a vampire that's the least of his damage. Shit. I can not wait to see the rest... I feel like people owe him flowers and sympathy cards for the amount of religious trauma that's been inflicted upon him and how easily it would have been to manipulate him into a cult, especially as a bizarre doll, he wouldn't have stood a chance. Honestly given bizarre dolls are just that... tortured, confused dolls made of a patchwork of this-and-that that have no business existing at all, there's something very sinister here about Modri now, he's going on just to be... a servant being forced to do actual-evil and be associated with such a harmful cult, when he tried to be so godly, grateful, and kind-hearted when he was actually-alive up until his personal tragedy. I'd be interested to see the rest, I want to find fault with him while he was human. Kind of hoping to, actually but that's just a personal hope, it would be better writing if he were actually-sweet all the way up to the point before death haha... it's just me, seeing as I've have a clenched fist about him for at least 48 hours. In short I really like where this is all going, it's all very interesting, and I feel crazed but that's okay. I'm sure! The bird and symbolism in the chapter on a personal level tugs at my heart a bit but that's neither here nor there.

One more thing that makes Lord Bethlenffi particularly disgusting:

In Eastern Orthodoxy marriage is seen as one singular, eternal event and most of the time it's cut-and-dry that even if the institution of marriage may be different, you will be together in the afterlife and coupled, in some way in heaven. Second marriages are allowed, and are blessed, however all the rites and blessings are different. It's clear that they're viewed as lesser in every way, there's even repentance involved, and are seen almost as a result of a moral failing and human weakness. Even in modern times you'll find people feel the same way spiritually about it. They're practical, and these marriages end at death. Depending on the specific denomination, it also makes the afterlife messy in terms of which spouse, if any, you'll greet: It's likely this was allowed because for one he was rich and also because he lacked an heir, so it was considered understandable. For him to go after someone who hasn't been married before, someone so young... to so openly and brazenly state he doesn't give a damn about her and just wants a son, is extremely cruel... but making comments about his first wife? How much prettier she was, and professing he's the one in the predicament, here... It's like confirming all of her worst fears but also on a deeply spiritually level she's probably genuinely miserable and contemplating what there is to look forward to not just in life but also on an eternal level, because this is the only husband she gets. It's a horrible position to put her in. Modri wasn't overreacting.

I hope everyone is appreciating the gravity of what was revealed... That in kuro's universe it's now canon that a huge portion of the population of the UK, think the Queen is/was sleeping with John Brown and/or find their relationship extremely inappropriate. Because he looks much younger than the real John Brown, it was assumed for years this scandal/detail was omitted from the story (I never thought it was, but, it wasn't CONFIRMED with a rubber stamp and SPELLED OUT for everyone). She also clarified beyond a shadow of a doubt he's scottish, his attire is scottish, and she allows him to break form and wear it whenever he wants. The absolute ONLY reason why this scandal didn't completely ruin her (in fiction or irl) was because she had overwhelming privilege as Queen, and many people took pity over the fact she lost so many people in her life. Not just Albert, but that death was said to have affected her the most. She treated this one scotsman better than the entire population of Ireland and made a show of it, almost. Common Scotsman weren't allowed to wear scottish attire or kilts on royal grounds... but John Brown was. I think I know where this is going but I am still somehow on the edge of my seat ... ... Oh yeah. Casually waving my hand at Modri, there's also whatever's happening with this guy.

George Herbert shared the sentiment that the best revenge one could ever obtain, is to live well. One aspect I really enjoy about Kuro (much more-so in the earlier chapters) is that even if Our!Ciel knows he can not do that, that behind the scenes he is still extremely traumatized and unhappy and ultimately, he intends to do the opposite of living a long full life... he is not above faking it and making it appear as though he is enjoying his lifestyle as earl, when he does appear in public (and occasionally in front of remaining allies and family). Sometimes the 'faking it' is real even if it only lasts a small while. Our!Ciel recognizes that this is a good lure, for whoever sought to snuff out his life. Sebastian never says so in a direct way that ties it to the revenge, but he recognizes it too. He understands if our!ciel fails prematurely as earl or is publicly disgraced, the contract may fall apart. At times, Sebastian is a walking contradiction because one moment he reminds Our!Ciel of the contract and he is ultimately going to end his existence, and just a few pages later ... he's asking him to learn to relax, smile, and learn have a good time and be good company. Perhaps Sebastian doesn't even recognize the ironic cruelty by doing this, and perhaps he does. Either way, you can tell this is complex business for him, too. It doesn't benefit him (in fact it inconveniences him) when Our!Ciel suffers needlessly, he wants him to be a strong Earl with empathy and compassion... and yet he still wants him bloodthirsty for revenge and not TOO happy, now! Not too happy! Not too happy to actually want to live and get out of the contract that's too far!! ... I feel like Yana does an extremely good job portraying the complexities of that.

Crack theory: claudia phantomhive is actually jesus christ

GET DAN BROWN ON THE PHONE RIGHT NOW Unrelated, but. I've got a 'crack theory' in the sense it's based on nothing, actually... but if I had to venture a guess... if there's any historical relevancy down to the year... as Watchdog, her death probably had something to do with The Panic of 1866 and England's banking crisis... Employment went up 8% that year across the board in every class as a result. That's pretty intense... There was also an enormous bank run ... you know that scene in mary poppins when everyone goes nuts and a riot breaks out and everyone wants to take their money out... it was that, just. Real... Because one particular Bank actually didn't have any money, and a lot of smaller banks also closed as a result. Everyone tried to withdraw their funds at the same time... The Bank of England did fuckall to help... This had a huge economic domino effect, a lot of people no longer had a business, and a lot of people lost their jobs, a lot of people lost everything they had invested in those banks since at the time, there was no guarantee that once a bank closed one WOULD get their money back-- it was a terrible time. This lead to a lot of very angry people, a lot of desperate people. It's easy to imagine, then, a scenario in which this economic panic lead to something ugly, that would require the watchdog's attention. Just an idea... Especially with the uh... recent chapters and the. ... New characters and Mr. Monopoly Man, over there. There's so much talk of the upper class and the fabulously wealthy and I find it. Interesting. Also the wealthy and their relationship with charity, it keeps coming up again and again and here we are. I don't know... it is kind of interesting. Sorry, just having fun at this point. Speculating.

I'm trying to be really kind and patient about getting asks/messages like this, because it's come to my attention that if you google certain phrases, our ring replica pops up alongside other rings that are for sale. So being clear once again: The ring is one of a kind and not for sale. If you see those images anywhere outside this blog, especially if someone's suggesting it's for sale or claiming they have the file... I promise, they don't. It's a scam, do not buy it. I suggest going to esty or commissioning someone else. It was a tedious, yet at times...fun, passion project fueled by sheer madness and I thought some might enjoy seeing what we accomplished. Been reading your backlog and came across your post re: the Kuro live-action movie. This has nothing to do with anything, I just thought you might be amused to hear--- I actually really enjoy it! I watched it first a very long time ago as a gay little sixteen-year-old in the throes of obsession and despised it with my entire being because It Just Wasn't The Same, And Sebastian Wasn't Hot Enough. I rediscovered it accidentally a year and a half ago, and have watched it like four more times since, because actually the aesthetics are fucking fire and somehow? Even with a change of medium, time period, and master? That magnificent actor embodies the spirit of Sebastian perfectly. Even the cinematography is faithful, with the gratuitous/significant shots of his shoes (and the sudden cuts to Cute Cats). The fight scene witiin the first 15 minutes is genuinely perfect as a demon dance...

I also just really like the implication that this idiot demon can't leave well enough alone after Ciel's death and sets himself up as a literal family curse. Damn glutton.

I just wanted to take a moment to reply to your ask, I appreciate it. I'll probably ramble incoherently now, as one does... The Kuroshitsuji live action movie, when it is brought up, I find is usually brought up unfavorably... sadly for a lot of the reasons some enjoy it. It's nice to know that there were people who saw/rediscover it and appreciate it. I'll watch it any time anyone else is willing to watch it with me simply because I'm entertained and amused by it. And also, because even if it wasn't manga-accurate and something new, there were parallels of things that actually did happen in the manga -- and 'crumbs' of truth to the plot left for us to ponder about. The movie literally revealed twists in the manga before they happened whether anyone likes that or not, so I think it's meant to make anyone watching it go 'hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...' (and that was very a very smart thing to do) and watch it again. The reasons I personally consider it "...one of the most movies of all time! It is A movie! The MOST movie of all time, my friend!" if anyone asks me if it's GOOD though... How to say this (under a cut for length)...

It is definitely Kuroshitsuji inspired, I would say if you love Kuro and are open minded you might consider giving it a watch at least once. The Sebastian from the manga IS in it (whether the movie is canon or not I don't really give much thought). I appreciate the "this is set in the future!" and the "NEW contract NEW Master but with twists because we're in Japan and --" all the hoops people jumped through to make the movie happen. It took a lot, to make it happen at all.

Sadly, I don't think it was the Kuroshitsuji movie the majority of the fandom wanted, though. They wanted London, the real English countryside, they wanted the victorian time-period, they wanted the characters from the actual manga and they wanted them depicted as accurately as possible.

I truly think, however… on that note… people have extremely, astronomically high standards when it comes to Sebastian and his looks. It's not necessarily their fault, because he himself yabbers on-and-on about the butler aesthetics and demon aesthetics and he's a demon and we all know, demon's are good at seducing people (and Sebastian is) so it stands-to-reason a live action Sebastian would be unsettlingly good-looking.

But. To be honest I think a lot of people have different ideas in their head of what he looks like, so it's impossible to make everyone happy and present the "PERFECT" actor that everyone unanimously agrees was the best choice. It's hard to strike gold like that.

Being limited to primarily actors that are known in Japan, would make casting even more difficult. I think the actor did the best job he could have possibly done, with what he had to work with. A lot of fans at the time, especially in the west were really young (I was a teen reading / watching kuro once…) and without giving it much thought, a lot of public comments were echoing the 'he's just not right/not hot enough!', but a lot of us were very young at the time. Teenagers are allowed to be wrong (and often are…) And sincerely, I don't think anyone, any choice, would have been "hot enough."

If the movie came out now with today's standards I'm pretty sure the movie would have been "Cancelled" for. … Hmmmm (humming) (cough) iykyk.

At the end of the day…

There was virtually no way at the time, like, 0 chance, at all, that time-warner in the Japan division, would film an anime-live-action movie in England/London, hire a bunch of white actors, and make it an accurate period piece, and cough up the budget for that. There was just NO way. No chance. This was the best Kuroshitsuji Live Action movie we were going to get.

The reason why I think people are so frustrated with it, was because those specific restrictions in the budget make the changes to the dynamic and setting super obvious, and they tried to make-it-work. I think I personally would have liked it a lot more, if it didn't feel like a bastardized re-hashing of the Jack the Ripper Arc.

If it were an entirely original struggle and if everything that was happening was the result of the past, and I do mean everything, I think the movie would have done better… …HELL even if the story had more to do with actions Tanaka took in the past, as a means for why the Phantomhives descendants are in modern day Japan now, as a starting point-- if he was the reason they moved to Japan to begin with, if Tanaka for example like buried the phantomhive ring somewhere in his homeland and it was worth like 200 billion dollars by modern day standards-- and someone thought Shiori's family knew where it was hidden, that her family had it and were secretly still involved with underground society, moved-wealth and were responsible for some sort of misfortune that actually had nothing to do with them, and thus, they were massacred and everyone except Shiori perished and THAT'S how Sebastian was summoned and the story moves from there… and she didn't even know who the fuck the Phantomhives were or anything about her family history and was like "What the fuck is even happening right now who the HELL is CIEL Phantomhive T_T" that might have been more interesting, to me. …But it's not really like that.

In the end I still appreciate the effort and as I said I still watch the movie, I think I just wished it were a bit different. I'll say something REALLY controversial, I like the Live Action Movie Better than any of the musicals. 💀

I think if Yana really wanted to try again at something live action, she could. I don't know if it would be a good idea, but she probably could. She's got that Disney money, now.

Thinking about Finny running into the moonlight in his 'I'm Finnian' moment ... And thinking about Our!Ciel running toward Sebastian in the liminal space as he was trying to snap out of the effect of the mustard gas. Thinking about the white blinding light and how the word "Finn/Fionn" means white/gold but more-so in relation to light and the sun... Thinking about how he described the hero in the story being as "strong as stag" and could "run as fast as a hare" -- and how similar aesthetically both those scenes were. Thinking about different meanings behind "strength" and how often we ever see our!Ciel run toward... anything, in that way... Thinking about Our!Ciel only able to break the 'spell' the mustard gas had him under until he remembered his own worth... Thinking about how the hero Fionn is associated with Morning and literally waking up, and how often Morning and sunrises are important and significant in Kuro... Thinking about how often Our!Ciel has been associated with the sun and yellow/white light, especially in the more recent years in various artworks and imagery... It's one of those things that's so impossible to be ignored...

Another observation...

Finnian the gardener and the moonlight being the lightsource of the white light he runs towards, is very interesting, it makes sense both times we see him with the moon in these pivotal moments. It's associated once, with the first time he ever mets Our!Ciel and Sebastian... So, it makes sense we see it again, in the woods as he's running with Sieglinde... However. Narratively, the moon being associated with Finny does not make sense. Plants can not grow at night. It contrasts with his new identity, it contrasts even with the scene he received his new name. It being nighttime, and moonlight is also sending a discreet message because time and time again within the story the moon is associated with secrecy, and also with deceit, and 'what's happening has double meanings here it might not be what it seems' and it being nighttime was a conscious choice. ... And on that note, almost every single pivotal moment between Our!Ciel and Sebastian is associated with sunlight, morning, and the coming dawn. I've said it once I'll say it again, sunlight is important between these two. -Sebastian getting his name from him, there's a Sunrise. -March 17th, getting earldom back and Sebastian bowing before him, sunlight/morning, walks into the sunlight. -Burying Mary Kelly and the 'when lies become truth' bit, there's the sun. -Book of Atlantic, oh look, it ends with another sunrise... -Emerald Witch Arc has probably the biggest sunrise "good Morning Master" moment so far in the series, yet... -Earl Ciel escaping jail with Sebastian and the servant reunion, sunrise! There's more that I've missed, that's the thing as if six critical and crucial moments weren't enough. Sunlight (light in general) isn't an easy thing to covey in artwork unless it's done with purpose. Sun sun sun sun sun sun sun sun sun sun again, and again, and again, and again. The series starts with "Good Morning, Master" and the sunrise. And of course. This is a conscious choice, it took effort to make sure it was there.

And thinking about Our!Ciel running toward Sebastian in the liminal space as he was trying to snap out of the effect of the mustard gas. Thinking about the white blinding light and how the word "Finn/Fionn" means white/gold but more-so in relation to light and the sun... Thinking about how he described the hero in the story being as "strong as stag" and could "run as fast as a hare" -- and how similar aesthetically both those scenes were. Thinking about different meanings behind "strength" and how often we ever see our!Ciel run toward... anything, in that way... Thinking about Our!Ciel only able to break the 'spell' the mustard gas had him under until he remembered his own worth... Thinking about how the hero Fionn is associated with Morning and literally waking up, and how often Morning and sunrises are important and significant in Kuro... Thinking about how often Our!Ciel has been associated with the sun and yellow/white light, especially in the more recent years in various artworks and imagery... It's one of those things that's so impossible to be ignored...

lmfao she's not wrapping this up at all. "The ending is soon!!" ... (drops new character) At least...I'm pretty sure the implication here is it's a doll of either a former Master we're dealing with, or a causality of a former contract. Or, There's a chance he has something to do with the cult that tortured the twins... Maybe a devoted follower who felt betrayed, or something... I do not think we have seen this character before... Comic/Manga 101 if it were a character we have seen before, she'd make the face much more recognizable for a cliffhanger like this. It seems due to the nature of the set-up Sebastian is going to get more agency (a drop) temporarily, and because of who he ran into, we might get a glimpse of either: 1.) some of what he was like before Earl Ciel. or, 2.) he's going to be tested, in some way, by this character Either way. I am so locked in, but I think it would be very interesting if he turned out to be a former Master. *Alternatively, maybe he's putting some shit into Sebastian's head like "Actually it was really me who summoned you :( " or something. But the most pressing matter.... how am I going to be normal for four more weeks? How? ... ...

I'm glad that it's looking more like the less obvious option, he's likely a causality of a former contract...if he IS a doll of some sort maybe he was a sacrifice. That or worshipping Sebastian in some way came at a very high cost to him, that much is clear. ... It's not even a secret that it was R!Ciel's blood that spawned Sebastian into existence, it's interesting that the thwarted ex thought that Sebastian would respond to his blood. ...Especially because it looks like most of it was transfusion-blood, how much of it was even "his" own.... ? ... Hmm. Interesting. There's still a chance he has something to do with the cult that tortured the twins, too... It's not like the cult just showed up recently. It's not like that cult only existed for a single month with the sole purpose to kill the twins... or that the twins were the only ones who died (or were supposed to) during failed summoning attempts. We the readers have no idea of it's origins or how old of a cult it actually is. How many failed sacrifices there were in total...? ... how much did this cult evolve over the years...? ... how many rituals even were there, was child sacrifice the only one...? Maybe there were other rituals involved in worshipping the demon, some only to do with blood? ...Hm. Things that make you think. Honestly this chapter was amazing. It had everything. I was honestly half-expecting Modri to whip the knife out and use it to cut off his own clothes though, lmfao. Super interested in seeing the rest of that tattoo around his neck.... it looks aesthetically a little. Familiar.
