Hey, I think you actually managed to out some of my thoughts regarding the whole Ferran situation into words and I kinda wanted to thank you for that and add some of my recent thoughts. It’s actually been quite baffling to me how people have been reacting to this entire transfer saga, tbh.
I really don’t get how after all these years, and especially after that spell in February and March and the way it clearly affected him, people are seriously surprised or offended by him maybe preferring PSG over Barça. I mean, yeah, I don’t like PSG either, but… even for mental health reasons alone, that transfer could do wonders for him. And even if he would probably go on to take a secondary role there as well, at least Enrique wants to trust him and include him in his long-term plans… something neither Flick nor Deco nor Laporta seem to want, so why would he not go there when clearly they actually want to count on him and don’t just see him as disposable or only worth keeping around for the moment until we find someone better…?
Personally, if we’re talking about sporting terms (ignoring his incident(s) for the moment, but obv, yikes), I’d honestly rather he stay at Barça for now because I don’t like the idea of losing both our established strikers in one summer, but oh well. If we don’t get to keep him it’s on the club imo, maybe we should have simply started to figure out the whole striker situation last winter and then we wouldn’t have found ourselves in the middle of this mess…
So many people just seem to have these unreasonably high expectations of him even though they’ve been saying the most vile shit imaginable about him since forever? Culers try to understand your players challenge… Like yes of course we want to see loyalty and dedication to the club, but you can’t seriously expect Ferran of all people, VCF academy product and everyone’s favorite scapegoat and death wish target, to act like a La Masia graduate who would die for the badge, it doesn’t work like that…
I feel like in hindsight the Ferran situation was always gonna get ugly this summer, because no matter what happens, it’ll make people unhappy. All of the attention on him following the World Cup is just helping blow things out of proportion. He stays and renews? The same kinds of ridiculous discourse and absurd amounts of hatred being spread for 2+ more years, yay. He stays and leaves for free next summer? Terrible business, and well, free transfers have a tendency to become ugly. He leaves this summer? We don’t have an established 9 and we still have no clue if anything is gonna come from the Julian saga, plus, probably terrible business too, because it’d likely mean letting him go for pretty cheap. (I also don’t really think he suddenly considers himself the second coming of Messi, but so many people latch onto that idea and blame everything on that goal, it’s so annoying…)
I don’t even want to support Ferran like that anymore after the last two weeks, but good Lord, the current discourse surrounding him is crazy, like what did you expect…
