Baby opened her mouth to say something, but simply let her lips fall back together when he denied sitting yet again. Was that jealousy she was feeling when he said he had been cooped up inside a car all morning because it wasnât her? Sure, yeah, that could be part of it, but there was something else she couldnât quite put her finger on.
And again when she went to speak up, she stopped herself. Her brows furrowed together and a frown creased her face. âDean, donât you dare sit there and patronize me by calling me âLadyâ,â Baby huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. âGo ahead, sit here and try to exorcise me, throw some salt and holy water at me, cut me with a silver knife,â she sighed, shaking her head. âNone of it is going to work. Iâm not some creature from Hell or anywhere for that matter,â she stated firmly.
She noticed the way his expression grew angrier at the mention of Sam, vengeful at the mention of his mother. Baby was striking chord after chord and she knew it. But it was the only way to get him to believe her. Though at this point, Baby was pretty sure that was impossible.
"Thereâs no.. Thereâs no fucking anti-aging cream, Dean, christ,â she let out irritably, rubbing at her eyes and looking up at him. â1967, I rolled out of a factory, went to my first.. Owner,â she cringed at the word. âA guy named Sal. He sold and gave away Bibles, kept me in decent shape but he never gave me love. If this had happened to me then, Iâd look like an old hag,â Baby scoffed, rolling her eyes. âBut after I sat in some lot for a couple of years, let dust and dirt wear away at me. Then some young guy came along; just got back from war, was heading home to see his girlfriend. She wanted him to get a van, be practical. But, yâknow, some other guy convinced him to get this beauty of a car, said she was reliable. Flattering, Dean, really.
"So thatâs where I ended up. With two young kids starting their own family after both of theirs had been broken," Baby sighed, a frown on her lips as she thought about it. "Next thing I know, Iâm being rushed off to a hospital and the next day those two kids come out with one of their own. Tuft of blonde hair, green eyes, freckles.. Spitting image of his mom. Except for the fact that he was a fat baby, poor Mary having to carry your fatass around for nine months," she said with a roll of her eyes, a small, teasing smile on her lips. "And four years later, same thing except this little baby all grown up comes running out, happily helping his parents put his new baby brother into a car seat. Sammy was adorable, I can still remember those big brown eyes and how your mom never let him out of her sight, not for hours on end until John came home from work.
"Everything seemed okay for a while, things were going so well. And then there was this fire.." Baby trailed off, shaking her head and glancing at Dean with a frown. "You know everything after that, I guess," she mumbled, absently toying with her dogâs leash. "I guess what Iâm trying to say is that thanks to you and your dad, I donât need no damn anti-aging cream âcause you kept me in such good shape."
Babyâs eyes lit up and she held her finger up to him before sifting through her coat pocket, her fist coming out and she opened it up in front of him. Two legos splayed in her palm. âRemember these?â
