They've turned this game into an episodic franchise that changes completely in every new installment. This started with the movie and now I think it'll just be like this for the time being.

Thurston in the adventure island movie
Watching him ignore Tricia the entire runtime was EXTREMELY painful but I really like some interactions in the movie, also love the main character's plot in it.
Rusty was definitely going through some stuff in that movie and probably needs to see a therapist

I do think he has an inferiority complex.
The combination of how much he effed up, plus @nakamopapina 's headcanon about him wearing glasses (would make it difficult to hunt in the wild, look out for predators, etc.) makes him believe that he has to prove himself as the best! It's why he talks himself up so much and acts smug despite knowing he's a screw up. And his big attempt to prove himself, Adventure Island, went horribly wrong.
(Another thing that makes him a little similar to Annie how I've written her. Annie is physically healthy, but also feels inferior (THANKS ODALIS!) in ways and masks her insecurities with overconfidence. One of the reasons I love the idea of Thurston and Annie having a mentor student bond like Sonny & Tiny and Buddy & Dolores.)

Seeing this discussion come out of my drawing made me so happy, he can be such a fun character to think about, genuinely! I like to think that after the failure of Adventure Island, Thurston genuinely attempted to change some of his bad habits (the thing that strikes me the most is that he calls it 'mistakes', he's aware of it and thus can try to work around them if caught). During the entire movie it looked like he was trying to prove that he didn't need other's approval or validation to be successful (he was so joyful and over the moon with the idea of his big park being a hit), his breakdown was so long too, I genuinely felt SO bad for him, cuz I understand the thought (I'm actually currently drawing some stuff to explore this a bit in comic form).
Kinda wish we could have seen more of the aftermath of the movie plots, but I guess that's left for the fans to interpret.
Also, I never thought about Annie like that! Just makes me await her further episodes more on my rewatch. I remember really liking her character and family! That's truly interesting!

I put Astrid into 3 different hairstyles, I usually draw her with a bun, just like how I usually draw Summer with a long braid
Did someone ever did a list of every episode the reoccurring side characters feature in (not counting characters with only one episode or the protagonists)? I can't find any list so I might do one while I'm rewatching the show...

I started this before settling on a design to draw the characters in, the colours might be a bit off too. When I finish it ill probably post it on my main account youtube. Wish i did different designs but it's too late to go back now XD (I still have to animate Thurston dancing and drawing 2 or 3 illustrations for backgrounds) also can't forget to work on the timing a bit more.
I thought of a Dinosaur Train AU and it's driving me nuts, so I thought I'd make it a little comic- I'm still.. working on it- it won't be very long, but I started making refs--
Tiny was a struggle- I did hers while I was still loopy after getting my wisdom teeth out and I'm too lazy to go back and fix it lol--
Partially feathered edits, I did this quickly to check how they'd look like more birdie like (how i tend to draw them most times). I know the real dino most likely was fully feathered but I wanted to keep the bare arms because of nostalgia
SOOOO CUTRRIEIEE!!! And yeah paleontology is constantly evolving this was before they knew they had feathers, Travis exists. but it was too late to really change them because iconic also animating feathers bla bla bla bla.
Thank you!!!!! I know, even now Troodon is not even a real species anymore XD It was divided into stenonychosaurus and latenivenatrix, if I remember right 🤔. I'll always love this show, it did great with the info at the time and effort to educate, I appreciate it a lot
