5 Year Blog Anniversary | GIVEAWAY!

Hi y’all! Today is a special day because we’re celebrating five years of Coffee and Calligraphy! This blog was a gateway to greater things for me, and began after I asked my parents if I could start a blog late at night when I was in grade eight (so pure)! I’ve shared a lot of my writing journey on here, which started shortly before the starting of this blog, and I’m excited to continue doing so in the future!

I recently did a giveaway for 1k followers, and now I’m going to be hosting a small giveaway for the five year anniversary of my blog! I’m going to be giving away the same things I gave away in the last giveaway, so the instructions are all the same. They go as follows:

1 flat colour tradigital portrait of your character (traditional sketch + digital colour) 

You must include at least 1 photograph reference for me to do this one because my art skills only go so far lol!

I would just like to say that I almost had an early quarter-life crisis during two of my classes today because I was writing my novel and there was some ~intense~ realizations going on.

We were supposed to be learning about the industrial revolution and dominant and recessive jeans but instead I just realized that one of my characters is a sad boi

You Will Never Escape This • Update #2 • Chapters 1-2

Chapter One:

I pack my suitcase into the backseat before I get into the car. I start the engine, back out of the driveway, and am on the road right as my clock turns to five P.M. If it weren’t for the three cars waiting on me to go, I would have stayed there, parked in the middle of the road.  My dad gets home from work five after right on the dot, the only perfect thing he’s managed to do in his life. I need to leave now, I don’t know where I’m going; I just have to drive and hope that she’s out there. Somewhere, I’m sure my mom is alive. She’s alive because I am. I need to find her.

This is a really bad first example because I kind of just...wrote it? I had originally planned to write this book for NaNoWriMo 2019 but only got one chapter in. It flowed pretty nicely I would say. 

As far as structure goes, this chapter is written in first person present tense as Aria is leaving her father’s apartment in California to go find her mother. It is quite a short chapter, coming out at only 563 words. 

Chapter Two:

The subway was crowded, and only one seat was open. A boy sat next to it. He was maybe twenty, though it was hard to tell. He had black ripped jeans, a white tee-shirt, and a leather jacket. It was a spring of action for me to take the picture of the sign. When I did, he spoke up. “Photographer?” He asked. “Runaway,” I replied before regretting it and wishing I had kept my mouth shut. “Me too,” he said, which caused me to let out a sigh of relief. “Payton,” he introduced. He held out my hand but I didn’t take it. “Raelynn,” I said. “When did you leave?” “A few hours ago,” I took another breath in and I noticed that Payton reeked strongly of weed, which made me a little uneasy, but I ignored my thoughts.   We stayed quiet for a while, the presence of a sprouting trust enough to cure the awkwardness. The subway stopped after a few hours. “I know a few people if you want to come with me.” I considered his offer carefully, though I knew I would accept as soon as the words came out of his mouth. I was lucky to get an offer like that from someone. He was also undeniably attractive. Wait, ew, what did that have to do with my decision? I was supposed to be focusing on whether or not I thought he could kill me. I knew I shouldn’t have gone.

Chapter two took a bit longer to write. Though, it only took about three or so days when you take out all of the month-long breaks I took. This chapter is told from Raelynn’s perspective in first-person retrospective past tense. The total word count came out to be 1,314 words.

I’m Lynn, 16 years old, Slytherpuff. I’ve been writing in nearly every genre since I was 11 or 12. I write in most forms too, but mostly I do flash fiction and novels/novellas.

I can’t live without music, and I always have it playing when I write. Some of my favorite bands/singers are Queen, Boston, The Beatles (I’m just a classic rock nut, forgive me), Alvvays, and The Lumineers.

My main project right now is a modern YA adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, titled Marie Imagines. Some of my side projects are:

Unnamed Screenplay - a script for an animated movie, planning stage. A little girl’s imaginary friend, not wanting to be forgotten, goes on a quest to become “real”

Dream Whispers - short story/novella, planning stage. Dreams are not abstract, they’re people - Dream Whispers. After a new Dream’s first Imbuement goes wrong, the other dreams must rescue them.

The Game - MG novel, third draft!! A girl enters the annual, nationwide Game and, after her friend disappears, discovers an awful secret about its hosts

I Feel Your Pain (working) - Screenplay, first draft. A group of people, seemingly unrelated in every way, discover that they share each other’s pain and decide to find out why

I thought I would join in on this too!

I’m Bailey, 14 years old, Gryffinpuff(or Huffledoor? I’m not in the Harry Potter fandom but I know my houses), I’ve been writing fanfiction, contemporary, fantasy, and a few mysteries since I was 12. My current work in progress is called You Will Never Escape This, a novel that I would say is the definition of teen angst about three teenagers that desparately need to go to therapy(you can see an in-depth synopsis here

I am a discovery writer/pantser which is either because I’m too lazy to outline or because I like to figure things out as I go. I can’t write without music, which is why I have way too many Spotify playlists. Some of my favorite artists include Halsey, Alec Benjamin, Panic! At The Disco, Twenty One Pilots, The Beatles, Clairo, and girl in red. Favorite music genres include theatre, vsco, alternative rock, and jazz on occasion. 

My current side project is Scarlet Handed one: The Vanishing Grandmother, a fanfic novel that goes in depth as to why a character died because I can’t contact the author of the series to ask and I am that extra.

You Will Never Escape This • Update #1 • Synopsis

Hello! This is my first update for my new and first novel You Will Never Escape This. I will be posting new updates every few chapters or so. I want to start this one with the synopsis. This is a YA contemporary about a fifteen-year-old girl named Raelynn. Raelynn’s parents are criminals, her mother is a drug dealer and her father committed third-degree murder. She was born in prison addicted and was immediately put in the foster system. When she escapes at fifteen, she meets a boy, Payton. Payton is a rugged eighteen-year-old with his own troubled past. He gets into everything bad that he can, claiming that it is the best thing for her. Months, later, Raelynn gives birth to Ariana or Aria. Her mother gives her daughter up for adoption, now wanting Aria’s father to get involved to no avail. When Aria is only five Payton adopts her and raises his daughter for the next twelve years. Aria runs away when she is seventeen on a search for her mother. Payton finds out and we watch as he sets out on a mission to kill her. Also, please note that I do not own rights to the image above.
