T/W — S/A, Dipiction of dissociation, a hint at previous trauma, catcalling.
A/N — This set before time skipped, so no outward romance or anything weird. Just two people who are there for each other. A post time skip follow-up is planned though.
There is and always has been something sophocatingly sweet about love. This warm cage in which you can grow in, but never out of. Perhaps it's why escapism seemed better then real life affection, because real life was a prison — a prison made out of memories.
It's why loving Bakugo Katsuki was easy. He never demanded you stay inside his beating cage. In fact, he told you to do "whatever the hell you want extra," and he ment it.
Bakugo pushed and proded at you when everyone treated you like a delicate angel, after all, only weak things are imprisoned. Only wounded animals are kept in cages, cared for by stronger beings. But, your caretaker treated your wounds as hurdles he knew you could cross.
"SHUT UP YOU IDIOT ITS TIME TO GO TRAIN"
"Bakugo why would I train i can't even become a he-"
"I DON'T GIVE A DAMN I'M NOT SURROUNDING MYSELF WITH WEAKLINGS"
"....YOU stick up MY ass Bakugo"
"I DO WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT NOW GET READY OR DIE"
You did as you were told, a smile creeping on your lips. He hadn't given up on you and hasn't for years. Even after people rathered to leave, then deal with you, no one had the mental capacity to heal an open wound. They wouldn't even know how.
Opening your closet, you pick the most gym appropriate wear you had. Which, when you sifted through clothes, hadn't been many.
"You better not fall behind or I'm not waiting for you"
Usually, with Bakugo, that sentence would be true, he never waited on anyone. Never bothered to cater to those slower than him. If you wanted to walk with him somewhere, it was not on him to make sure you were fast enough. Though, when it came to you, that wasn't always true. Just for you, he slowed his steps. Not by much, just enough that he was always in your sight. He learned this habit after what happened to you, Katsuki kept himself where he could reach you if you needed him.
The walk to the gym wasn't that long, a few minutes, and you were already walking inside. Machines lined the walls, a boxing ring off to the side, and a little vending machine next to it. A small homey space smelling of sweat.
"You brought a friend huh?" The clerk smiled, "I don't think I've seen you bring anyone here before."
"Tch whatever old man let us through."
"Sure sure kid, don't blow anything up"
Hell broke loose afterwards, Bakugo making sure to work every bone in your body until it was on fire thrice over. He didn't bother going easy on you either, in his mind, you could be whatever you wanted if you just put the effort to do it.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT DUMBASS?" He yells as you drop on the floor exhausted.
You watch him from the ground, your eyes picking up on his every movement. Somewhere in those eyes, you saw it. Underneath that explosive bravado was a thorn bush. It wrapped around his heart, dug in until it tore him to shreds and no amount of explosiveness could cotraize that wound. Guilt.
"You're leaving for UA." You state.
He doesn't reply for a while, "yeah."
"Well I guess you don't have to worry about walking me home anymore." You smile.
Happy, you were so happy you could combust right on the floor you laid on. You had waited to hear him say that since you two were in kindergarten.
"I have ten months to make sure your ass can keep yourself safe. You can't use me as an excuse anymore so get the hell up extra." He hissed, moving away from you towards the next thing he wanted you to do.
And you forced yourself to do just what he wanted.
Despite his workouts being intensive, grueling, and inhumane. You kept your whining about it to a minimum, because you knew exactly where it came from.
"Heeeyy... you seem alone, wanna hang out with me?" A boy from your class walked close, his presence skin crawl inducing.
Monsters picked the victims that looked like they would offer the least resistance. Ones who kept their head down in class, never talked too loud, and for the most part scared easily into silence. Unfortunately, that happened to be you.
He didn't bother to speak as he leaned closer to your frozen body, that cage of memories keeping your body in staises. All while you watched it happen from somewhere outside your body.
There wasn't a warning — no yelling or screaming, just an explosion.
"Bakugo what the hell man?" The boy screamed, "It wasn't what you think i swear okay?"
You wished your body turned to see, see as Katsuki beat the shit out of him. But you remaind frozen, every inch of you unwilling to move.
"Hey." Bakugo stood in front of you, "You're okay now dumbass, I'm going to take you home now, alright?"
He doesn't immediately grab you. Instead, he brings his hand directly to your line of sight, then to your own.
He was warm. Sweaty, as usual, but warm.
That warmth climbed all over your body as you hyper focused on it. Your mind pulling you back from that out of body state, he was warm, so warm and sweaty and it was the best feeling in the world because it wasn't that empty feeling.
"We're here." Bakugo muttered trying to keep his voice below his obnoxious volume, "give me your shit."
This was how it went, you the picked on and bullied kid. Dissociation your only other friend. And he, your saviour.
Your caretaker, the one who helped you make it home safe. Walked you home at night, yelled at the guys catcalling you for you, beat those creatures who dared go near you uninvited. But he also never treated you as incapable.
It's why you were here, training with him. Walking home with him at his insane pace, studying with him at his top-of-his-class rhythm. He never treated you less then, always someone who could be his equal.
A large grin formed at his lips as he watched you try to dodge. It was futile.
"Too slow moron NOW DIE"
Bakugo threw you on the mat for the second time. Those sharp eyes staring you down, that guilt still there, thorns digging ever so tighter as the day went on.
He always made sure you learned how to take care of yourself. Never how to rely on him, but how to help yourself when you needed it. Bakugo only let you rely on him whenever you couldn't rely on yourself, all those years of him not teaching you martial arts were because you froze at violence. Not because you were weak, but because your mind pulled you away from the scene. But now, now that you pulled yourself together enough, now that you learned how to pick the pieces left in your cage, now that he couldn't be there anymore. He'd teach you.
Because he had failed at saving you once. At the worst time in your life, he heard you screaming but just couldn't run fast enough. His tiny child legs, his too low of a voice, his tiny firecracker explosions. Didn't do anything.
So here he was, guilt always gnawing at him.
"Well that was fun." You croack on your bed.
"Tch, try not to be so predictable next time" He snatched your phone from your hand.
"Ba-chan give it back" you whine while trying to grab it out of his hands.
"THE HELL DID YOU JUST CALL ME DIPSHIT?" His scrunched face was too funny.
"BA-CHAN BA-CHAN BA-CHAN" You repeat still trying to grab your phone from his hands.
Warm sweaty palm meets your face as he tries to push you away from him, disgusting to most but feels nice to you.
"STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ME YOU FREAK"
"Don't worry you won't have to deal with me as much in a few months." You retort.
Your phone flies over your head and lands on the bed. Bakugo now standing cross armed and clearly unhappy.
"Yeah yeah whatever."
Ten months from now he would be busy achieving his own dream.
It was why Bakugo was easy to love. He was his own person, you were your own. He never forced his care, only his skills, never once made you inferior despite being caged in your own mind, just you. He trusted you, believed in you enough to go be his own person, become the strongest hero.
This is why, despite not even being in UA yet. Bakugo was already your number one hero.
Bakugo is the type of person to be very overprotective of someone if he saw them get traumatised as a child.
Specifically, if he saw a person get hurt and they were both children, he'd try to stop it. He'd fail or wouldn't make it in time.
He'd be so guilty
He'd avoid them ar first, he'd see them get bullied or hurt again and immediately stop it. This will become a habit.
His guilt would turn into a relationship. That relationship would blossom into a friendship, maybe more maybe not.
I'd like to imagine that if it was a person getting SAd he'd protect them from anyone who even so much as looks at them wrong, mineta would get his shit rocked. Even as they grow older into pro hero, or he would, he wouldn't dare to stop. Because deep down, that guilt is still eating him alive and it only got worse when he started to enjoy that person's presence.
Thinking of turning it into a fic but who the heck knows.
💥 Bakugo would be the type of guy to be a joint hero with his partner. Yeah, he wants to be the best, and he wants to be the best on his own, which is why he is also a "solo" hero and at the top of the charts. But he also happens to be his partner's joint hero partner.
💥 Bakugo needs his partner with him while he sleeps. He'd get extremely pissy if he can't sleep next to them. After everything, he gets worried that in his sleep, villains will attack, and he won't be there next to his partner when everything goes down. Also, in the rain, it gets worse because of his memories of that day. He sometimes feels his heart clenching as if the very sound returns his symptoms.
💥 Bakugo doesn't know when to stop training. Even at home, after dinner, he'd train until he'd drop. His partner would have to drag him back home. Promising a relaxing movie and a joint shower usually does the trick even if he grumbles about it.
💥 Bakugo never yells at his partner as much as the others. Usually, his tone is very grumbly and tense but he doesn't usually yell. He only does that when him and his S/O are play fighting
💥 Bakugo is the one who does the cooking, most of the time at least. The reason was that his S/O tried his food once, and their eyes lit up. Now he does it just so he can see that sparkle.
💥 Bakugo and his partner were the No. 1 in the contest Heros in Love during valentine. Ever since then, the two were known to dominate that chart every year.
💥 Bakugo and his S/O also happen to be the number one ship. Mostly because they always end up in romantic situations mid fight, much to Bakugo's chagrin (he's happy about it he just doesn't want anyone else to see).
Getting the adult 1-A special and chapter was like growing up with a group and have them grow up with you.
Especially seeing Bakugo all grown and being older then me made my kid self so happy. It also helps of course that the moment I saw him in the manga i was swept back just like I was as a kid. It's genuinely like seeing your childhood crush after you two grew up it's crazy.
🚧 SPOILERS AHEAD FOR HAWKS MHA S4 AND ONWARDS BE CARFUL —
Hawks is so wildly mischaracterized that it's actually getting annoying.
The fan characterization is, of course, welcome. Everyone wants and likes aspects of a character and thus will highlight them, this is not what's talked about. However, what is annoying is when people mischaracterize him and assert it as canon just to shit on him.
Hawks is not actually an annoying murderer who who did it just because. He isn't a fan service womaniser. He isn't just for looks. He isn't a monster for killing twice.
As the number two hero and a direct operative of the hero commission, he is expected to put on a front. One that ensures people don't notice what goes behind that pretty boy persona. Not only that, he himself believes that people need to be a symbol, a strong symbol that makes people not need to worry, to make heroes not need to work in the first place. He knows he isn't the one for the job, so he helps those who are, from the background. To let those who can give people hope shine bright enough.
This also goes into why he is so "flirty" he's only doing it to keep himself on the good side of the public so he can do his work, and because it's a plus that he can make them smile.
He doesn't sleep, doesn't even have a home, it was stated in a Japanese fanbook (I believe) that he will rest for a few minutes in a break room before flying on another mission.
Hawks is a hardworking hero who will do whatever it takes to save people and support those who can shine.
He killed twice not because he wanted to, but because he had to. It killed him inside because he, out of everyone, understands that the line between villainy and civilian and hero are so small. He cared deeply about Twice because he saw himself in Twice, he saw his past in him too. But, he also knew that Twice was a dangerous villain, he could have hurt so many people and killed so many folks. Because of that, he made the decision that best suited the situation to save people.
This was a tragedy, a loss, and a reason to grieve, for Hawks and for the fans. People can hate that Twice died but calling Hawks a murderer for SAVING 1-A and the Heros from being over turned and killed is not productive. It's a disservice to Twice's story.
I will go into more detail in another post but my point is that people can and should hate Hawks if they don't gell with him. However, I'd rather it be for reasons that aren't misreading and misinterpreting the story just to prove how right they are.
Hate whoever, just don't make shit up. Just not like a character and move on.
Okay, extras, time to tell you why Endevour and Bakugo are not the same but are similar.
A lot of people get it in their head that Bakugo and Endevour are the same. They believe that Bakugo is basically a young Endevour and would have done/will do the same things Endevour has done to achieve his goal.
These people don't understand that Bakugo has something that Endevour lacked. Humanity. While Endevour had something Bakugo wasn't raised with, the traditional principles that allow Endevour to do the things he has done.
Bakugo was raised to be a little shit and he has a large ego. But he wasn't raised to stoop to such levels, he believes instead that he should carve his own path forward by his own powers. He won't use others because then it won't be he who became powerful.
Besides, Bakugo wasn't raised to abuse others to get his way, but use his own power to get the approval of others. Therefore, he won't actually even try to do this kind of thing.
Also, Bakugo may seem like an asshole — and he was one and acts like one — but inside, he actually cares about people, it's why he's a hero and not a villain. He wants to be number one based on his power, his power to beat the villain, and keep others safe.
Bakugo looks up to All-Might, the symbol of peace, the symbol of joy and prosperity. He understands all of that, and he respects and admires it. He just acts as himself because he doesn't want to be anyone else.
He especially wouldn't want to be someone like Endevour.
Bakugo, however, did think he could become like him in the future. It's a big part of why he changed in the series, because he was disturbed by that idea.
The two are similar in the same way that they want to become number one. They both want to he the strongest there is, for different reasons.
Fuck Chisaki. Genuinely the worst piece of shit in this series.
Your telling me this asshole just tortures a child for the fuck of it and people still follow him? The fuck you mean "he told me I can belong with him" brother the fuck? Genuinely go die.
I don't care about the guys history he went way to far for absolutely no reason, Shigiraki looks like an angel compared to this bastard.
Will actually murder anyone who doesn't understand that Bakugo being an absolute shithead is actually his character arc. No, John, the angry teenager being an asshole isn't bad writing it's, get this, intentional. Also no Martha he isn't "so nice and sweet uwu" he's an asshole with depth. That's the point. He gets actually nice as the story goes not but he doesn't start out misunderstood.
Bakugo was a kid who grew up being put on a pedestal since he was a literal baby. Everyone listened to him and told him how amazing he was, including the kid he bullied. He grew an ego formed by his expectations to keep his place in said pedestal, and that ego spiralled into insecurities. He eventually realised that he wasn't as great as he thaught he was when he joined UA. He could no longer be on the pedestal he tried to stay on for the sake of expectations. As such, he tried to compare himself to Deku, the only one who was supposed to be below them. But even he isn't the helpless kid he used to satisfy his own ego. So now he lashes out.
He eventually learns that it's his effort that put him in his spot currently. Not some inherent "greatness" he had. Bakugo also learned that just because Deku is getting stronger doesn't mean he is weaker, that comparing himself to others only endangers his strength and spot in UA do he stops.
This is Bakugo.
Bakugo is NOT some poor baby who was so amazing and nice and just loud and expressive.
Also I could make a post about why Bakugo and Kirishima are actually extremely similar. I could make another post about why Endevour is also Bakugo coded.
Kirishima is such a well written character. His positivity comes from a deep-rooted need to protect others and keep people safe. It also comes from insecurity. He failed to keep his friend safe back before he went to UA, so now, he works hard in order to make up for the failures and shortcomings he feels he has.
His ideas of manliness come from the "courageousness," "power," and "kindness" of the idealised man. The person who wouldn't freeze when others need his help as he failed to.
He's so sweet and nice. We love Kirishima in this house. Disrespect on his name is NOT allowed in this house.
