Does anyone else feel that the popularity of the enemies-to-lovers trope for heterosexual women may be due at least in part to the fact that successful women are socialized to believe that they can do anything except get married and have families, at least in our current popular media? The modern enemies-to-lovers stories featuring strong successful women perfectly encapsulate the conflict modern career women are facing. In these stories, the truly transgressive move for the successful heroine is the choice to pursue the equal partner who doesn’t have to change her or make her smaller in order to love her. In contrast, the society around the female protagonist is often positioned to tell her that single and pure adulthood is the only noble option if she wants to keep her perfect pure heroine qualities. (Which, ironically, is forcing the heroine to remain smaller by removing her agency to make a choice she clearly has a desire to pursue.) This is why endings like The Rise of Skywalker cut women fans so deeply. The social messaging of such stories communicates that “choosing career over equal partnership and family” is the noble, pure, heroic ending for the heroine. This is a tragedy for many women viewers because the truly fulfilling message is that successful women can have careers AND families, depending on their individual goals and desires. It’s not an either-or decision, but the dominant media messaging in our society seems to have concluded that women must choose to either have families OR careers, when that dichotomy is a demonstrable lie.
In other words, let the heroine marry the villain. Watch them change the world together, as equals who grow and develop in a healthy partnership.
She doesn’t have to remain pure, and he doesn’t have to remain unredeemed.
The myth will remain broken and incomplete until the story of growth through equal partnership is truly seen through to its natural end.

Just wanted to say I'm really amazed by the continued creativity and talent of the Reylo fandom - it has been almost three years since The Rise of Skywalker, and I love that there's still so much new art, fic and discussion to take in on the daily.
Reylo is easily the best fandom I've ever been part of, and I'm really grateful to be part of such a passionate and inventive community. You guys are awesome!
#reylo porgs are the best
after watching Girls i really wanna do this💖💖💖💖💖
I feel it again… the pull to the light…
For those of you watching the death spiral of Twitter in real time THIS IS WHY us fandom olds always defend AO3 and it’s donation drives.
Twitter is an incalculable loss for artistic expression, news, and so many other facets I can’t even begin to count.
This sort of loss of information is impossible with AO3 and how it’s set-up. Obviously an AO3 style model isn’t sustainable for every site bc the moment images get involved the server costs skyrocket exponentially, but now more than ever the theory applies.
AO3 is an archive of our own, donators have direct say via vote about what happens to the site, you help shape it.
As long as AO3 has donation drives and doesn’t rely on advertisers it will remain around as a foremost place of art and freedom of expression. What happened to Twitter can’t happen to AO3 as it currently exists. And that is why we fight tooth and nail to protect AO3 from corporate interests and out of touch billionaires like Musk.
I hate that Twitter is dying and that anyone has to experience it, but please learn from this experience!

Being in a fandom on Tumblr

Since I just gained a bunch of followers and I'm going to hazard a guess that some of you are new here (or returning after a long time away), want to talk about some Tumblr basics? First up, tagging.
You can put spaces in your tags on Tumblr! This is very exciting and often why you'll see people putting commentary in tags—because they can.
It's usually considered more polite to put commentary in tags, so as to leave the original post relatively uncluttered. I find this to be especially true of visual posts like fanart and GIFs. The best time to reblog with a comment is when you're actively looking to engage in some kind of dialogue with the post you're reblogging.
Tag commentary is kind of like a whispered aside. On my own posts, I often use that space for post-scripts of a sort. I have done this at the bottom of this post, for science.
On posts that you create, tags help other people find your post through their searches. It used to be that only the first five tags on a post showed up in a search, and now it's the first twenty.
If you are interested in a topic, you can follow its tag. So, for example, if I'm interested in [throws a dart at a board] seeing Daemyra content, I can follow that tag and posts from the tag will show up on my dashboard from time to time. Here is how to follow a tag and manage followed tags.
(It's worth noting that Tumblr uses ship portmanteaus but also sometimes longform ship names, so if you're posting your original Daemyra content it's often wise to also tag it "rhaenyra x daemon," "daemon x rhaenyra," and other variants as well. Remember, up to twenty of them count!)
Tags—of both your original posts and of your reblogs—also help organize your blog. I create specific tags for posts and answered questions about my fics that I try to use every time they're relevant to make it easy for readers (or, you know, me with my goldfish memory) to find them. Here's the tag for Out of Time.
You can organize your blog, or not, however you want. I also choose to tag characters prominently featured in a post, the media property shown, and so on, mostly just for my benefit. Here are most of my original and reblogged posts featuring Daemon Targaryen. Some people get very, very granular with their tagging, but some don't tag at all. Dealer's choice!
Lastly, Tumblr has pretty robust content filtering, so don't censor yourself in tags or in the body of your post. If you post, say, #p*neapple and someone is trying to avoid posts tagged #pineapple, you might accidentally ruin their day.
I can't draw a thing but I FUCKING LOVE FANART
Send it all my way, let me reblog it and scream with the whole fandom how great it is
