I haven't plugged the Pokemon Horizons Discord server for a while, so here it is! It's mainly to chill and chat/post memes/anything related to the series.

I've seen some theories that the reason Friede did not tell his friends he was alive for a year is because he is autistic and doesn't understand the feelings of others. I wanted to discuss this.
Firstly, I don't think there is a logical explanation as to why a character like Friede would let his friends grieve for a year. It was a lazy plot device used so that the writers would not have to explain his absence. While he can be forgetful, Friede is a caring character and would never put his loved ones through a bereavement. If there had been more of a clear explanation (ie. If they said Friede was being tracked by the explorers 24/7) everything would have made more sense.
Back to the main topic, Friede definitely has traits of autism and I think it's a good headcanon that he may be on the spectrum. However, having autism does not justify someone not contacting their friends when they are presumed dead. It is a commonly held assumption that autistic people do not understand the feelings of others, but this is not true. We can have trouble reading the room or knowing how to be socially appropriate, but this is not the same as downright disregarding someone's emotions. In fact, we are often very sensitive. Friede's actions were insensitive. Not only were his friends left to grieve, but it was nearly a year before he left them a voice message. Anyone with a brain cell would know how hurtful this is. Whether or not Friede is autistic, it does not explain this behaviour.
Some late thoughts on the Feebas episode- I'm a few eps behind on Horizons 🥲 I really like how the writers diverted from the conventional route with Feebas being 'ugly'. Normally, the most interesting thing about it is that it evolves into the most beautiful pokemon. Milotic is one of my favourite pokemon so this is no hate towards it! What I do not like is the ugly duckling transformation trope, where if something or someone is 'ugly', they are only worthy of respect if they glow up or change into something beautiful. As a conventionally plain person, I find this trope annoying lol. The thing that makes Feebas interesting in this episode is not the fact that it evolves into Milotic, but the characteristics and strength that it already possesses. As Friede points out, pokemon all have unique personalities and capabilities just like people, so you should never judge by appearances. Feebas does not need to evolve by the end of the episode, because it is amazing just as it is.
I do treat mine as collectibles depending on the plush (like my Eternal Flower Floette plush or my Trainers plushies), but I really hate what scalpers, collectors (not the ones who do it for the love of the series, mind you), and investors have done to this franchise, man.
The cards were annoying enough. Don't set the barrier of entry on merch too high for kids, the franchise is mainly targeted for them. They should be allowed cards and plushies and whatever the hell else too.
The kids have just kinda been in a slump since Laqua, which isn't that surprising considering figuring out the mystery behind the pendant/Black Rayquaza and getting there was the whole reason they had joined on this journey. And since the whole mess with the Explorers is over, there's the question of "what now?"
Can I just say how heart-warming it's been to see the recognition of mental health awareness week? Like, this is brilliant, please keep this up! Mental health is so incredibly important.
(Not my usual post but was just a thought I felt like I had to share)
Thinking about making this blog multi-fandom... I love pokemon but there's lots of other things I want to geek out about, especially while anipoke is on break lol
-And both make people give up on intelligence/creativity
We saw environmental impacts of Laquium and it was pretty devastating, it sucked all the life out of the soil and drove Pokemon from the area, much like ai data centers, only the data centers poisoned the surrounding water suppl, because theses centers needed to be cooled down and this water isn't recyclable. These data centers also take up huge amounts of land too, this would force all of the wildlife to evacuate, like how the Pokemon did when the Laquium took over.
When Spinel and Gibeon were when consumed by the Laquium, the same thing actually happens when people use ai for everything, they depend on it for everything. They can't think for themselves, they are constantly focused on that unhealthy addiction. We saw Spinel even go as far as merging with the Laquium core and I wouldn't be surprised if the pro ai scumbags would do the same...
Trainers were mindlessly battling and Laquium took all of the fun out of a battle. All they did was shout "Attack!" and the Pokemon would fight till it gave out. We see trainers throughout the Pokemon franchise come up with complex strategies, like during that battle with Gouging Fire (one of my favorite battles btw), the RVTs didn't know what Pokemon that was but they won.
If you used Laquium to fight then is it really your victory?
If you used ai to generate a picture is it really your art?
It isn't.
Laquium is abuse and gen ai is lazy. It isn't yours.
Also, remember when Spinel took over the explorers and used the company for Laquium harvesting and the creation of strong spheres? That kinda reminds me of when Elon Musk brought Twitter in 2022 and ai came the following year. Just saying.
I'm not saying that they based Laquium or the plot off of gen a, I'm just saying the two of some similarities.
Anyways, thanks for reading or whatever, comment if you like idc.
