some real disjointed thoughts (spoilers for yoon ha lee's machineries of empire series):

i really wanted a scenario where sam interacts/has to work with the winter soldier and the timing coincided with me finally finishing yoon ha lee's hexarchate stories collection. i kept thinking "they need to put bucky in the black cradle it's so him-coded" and also saying to my friends "i'm not gonna draw anything for the au though, that seems like effort!!!" well anyway here we are 🧍‍♂️

i didn't want sam to immediately be bucky's anchor because i think the sam-and-bucky dynamic works better when 1) they're two physically separate entities, and 2) they don't have to experience the intense emotional fuckery of being anchored right off the bat. luckily yhl has already created the perfect plot device for this with jedao 2 lol. so sam is just a regular kel nco who unfortunately has to put up with the winter soldier being on his moth. real normal meet cute type of stuff.

THAT BEING SAID, i love cheris's jedao identity play in raven strategem, and the idea of 'sam is the winter soldier is bucky is sam' occurring at some point is so fun to me ... so maybe the kel moth gets blown up by the carrion bomb like the end of 9fg, sam swallows bucky's carrion glass, and some stuff happens. idk! i have not thought this through, i just think it would be fun! see: img below.

additional comedy: if someone in the hexarchate pulls the same move as kujen in revenant gun and makes bucky 2 (baby bucky, with only pre-WS bucky's memories) and then he uhhh inevitably meets sam. sam is like for the love of god were the two of you put in this world specifically to annoy me into getting grey hairs early.

re: the kel rank rp bit, every time i remember the gloves short story from hexarchate stories i just wanna massage my forehead at jedao's inevitable ... jedao-ness. anyway sam is very game, although he can't help but feel unsettled about cutting off the fingers off a pair of gloves and putting those on, but also he loves yanking bucky's chain just a little about the details ↓

lastly, i can't resist making a glass cannon joke bc it's one of the funniest novellas i've read in a while.

the full on courtroom drama fics. the illustrated fics on ao3 that were like fucking baroque oil paintings. the epistolary shit. some mf wrote pieces of a fake book by a historian. we had works cited. this fanfction has a bibliography. how can we bottle this and distribute it en masse to other fandoms.
