sunshiney characters who adore the mean grumpy character, platonically or romantically, but not DESPITE them being mean as if that isn’t who the other “really” is deep down. they love it. they think the other is the funniest cleverest most delightful person alive
if the sunshiney character doesn’t have to cover their mouth up trying not to laugh at every sharp comment, completely altering how everyone else thinks abt the sunshiney character, then what’s the point
I have an absolutely (lovely) deranged friend who has been playing through FF14 aetheryte-less. In the beginning, since one of our friends pestered her to grab her aetherytes, out of spite she made the decision she will go through the entirety of the game WITHOUT AETHERYTES. She's in Shadowbringers now. She doesn't even have the teleportation menu UNLOCKED. She takes public transport wherever possible. If that's not an option, she walks. There are quests that have you attune to aetherytes, but these haven't unlocked the teleportation menu for her. When she dies, she spawns back in Uldah which is a huge bother, but because her spite is more important to her than her time, she will LITERALLY WALK TO A DIFFERENT WORLD INSTEAD OF JUST UNLOCKING THE TELEPORTATION FEATURE.

"Those that were once here never really leave. Not all at once, at least." Tydan clapped his hands together, eyes closed. He listened to the sound, how it echoed and faded, slowly, and then opened his eyes. "It's like this. Until it's gone, I can still hear it. ... I just hear better than most."
Meteion tilted her head. "Is it because of your ears?"
"...Something like that."

"Even here, Meteion, you're not alone. I'm here now."
He closed his eyes. Gave one clap. It did not echo, the sound died in the air.
"I'm sorry it took me so long. But I hear you now. Your song of sadness and regret and death and dismay."
Another clap.
"It is a tune I know all too well. I'm sorry yours had to turn into a symphony."
One more clap, but this time he heard the smallest, muffled sounds of her own hands echoing his motion.
Most of this is copy/pasted from an RP group I was in.
Tydan is a lil homebrew class for RP's sake called Deathspeaker, from deep in the Golmore Jungle. He hears what his group called the "Whisper of the Wood", (the memories, feelings, and remnant echos of those that have died and, more importantly, the imprint of the people who sacrificed themselves to summon zodiark) and channeling those sensations into summons to reflect. Thus, his summons will change from place to place depending of what he can draw from. His most notable one is his mount which resembles slepnir, Orin’s mount.
He can also commune with the dead - he can tap into the aetherial sea and project himself into it (albeit at great risk) to communicate with those that have gone before and are still intact. Those that still linger and haven't passed onto the sea, he can also contact - to those around him it sounds like music coming from nowhere, but he can understand the wishes of those that haven't moved on.
When in danger he can draw upon the Will of the Wood (reaper avatar/enshrouded form) to protect himself, relying on base instinct and nothing more.
As downsides - it is said that “Those who speak to the dead are quick to join them” in the woods, and it is true. There is the chance with each communication with the aetherial sea, with each summoning, that a Deathspeaker may leave a bit of themselves behind. It is also entirely taxing on Tydan. After a proper communion or a long battle of casting spells, he will be very exhausted and will need a large meal and rest to recover.| He can sing and vocalize with voices that aren't his, letting the dead express themselves through him.
Deathspeaker's main goals are to help people move on. His people were called upon to see to the dead and dying, to listen to their wishes and regrets, to give them peace in a sort of final-rite. They go to places that are haunted and try to help spirits move on by making them feel heard and in return they are granted strength.
