Note how when, on the very first episode of Banana Fish, Ash becomes rather subdued when Ibe asks to take pictures and he avoids eye contact with him when he tells him he can, but not the face.

Ash has an instinctual fear of cameras, it seems. Which isn’t necessarily a surprise considering that all his experiences with them are more traumatic than not.

The fact that Ash allows Eiji to take pictures of him, at some point, shows the amount of trust that Ash has in regards to Eiji.
