I think dennis isn't out because he genuinely doesn't know bisexuality is a thing. sure he sleeps with men but he's not gay and that's that. I can imagine it being charlie in one of his moments of wisdom who tells dennis that bisexuals exist

don't mind me, just thinking about how butterflies spend so much of their lifecycle as caterpillars and when they finally emerge from their cocoons their lives are so short lived
so yall preferred the purposefully bland, husband pleasing, held against her will and manipulated until she no longer remotely relates to her original self version of marwa? what about when nandor brought back back killed off all those other women of colour, what about when he completely changed her to suit his own desires on a whim, when he molded her into the woman he wanted her to be at the cost of her own personality? there was no outcry then, whats changed? she was never given any development, she was never established as a character beyond him. would it have been nice if she'd been freed and left to live her life - yeah of course, but that wasn't going to ever happen. she was wished into existence for nandors entertainment and was gotten rid of for the same reason. At least she no longer has to suffer him. Even if she had been let go as herself nandor would not care enough to use one of his wishes to revert her back to who she was, she was dead the minute he made that first wish to change her. Hell, she had already been dead for hundreds of years.
Nandor has never been good or kind, none of them have been. They're selfish and spiteful, and virtually irredeemable, that's kind of the whole point. I think it's pointless getting upset over a character who quite literally written to be plaything for nandor, they made that clear from the start.
queerness in thor love and thunder
I know this will be a somewhat controversial take but I agree with taika and natalie, love and thunder was "super gay", to a degree. at least it was more so than other mcu films (and no I'm not forgetting eternals)
the queerness in this film was very casual, it was taken seriously but not exploited or paraded as a show of representation. in some cases it was, yes, subtle, but still undeniably there.
the major cast of the film was limited, there were really only 4 protagonists and an antagonist. within that we had korg, a gay character who is seen in a committed relationship by the end of the film. and valkyrie, a bisexual who is very much not in the place for a relationship but talks about her past girlfriend and flirts with the women of omnipotent city. 2/5 isn't a bad ratio for core characters.
beyond that we have smaller scale representation, korgs two dads are discussed, miek is referred to by she/her pronouns, zeus has both male and female admirers surrounding him and we see the blurring of gender roles as Valkyrie keeps on the mantle of king as her legitimate title rather than as some figurative torch pass. Additionally, axl (while not identified in the film as trans) has a trans coded mini arc. On that last point I would like to say: I read the scene as thor having a personal and cultural attachment to axls past name, which causes his stubbornness to flare, however when axl insists, thor recognises the importance it has to him and drops his defence. I understand that's not how everyone interpreted it however I do believe it was intended as thor learning and accepting someone else's decision rather than any negative reflection on axls name change.
I'm sure there is probably stuff that I have missed, however that's enough for now.
of course I absolutely wish for more representation and central queer storylines, however this time we got multiple named queer characters of different sexualities and genders whos identities are reference multiple times throughout the film. that's more than we've had before. Disney sucks, we all know that, but hey it's another step towards what we deserve.
Did anyone film the bfi event/ know if they'll release it? I know they have in the past I'm just impatient and I want to watch it asap whoops
Thinking about the Captain casting everyone in the role of soldier under his command. Thinking about how he died in uniform even though the war was over. Thinking about how if he could wear anything in the world it would be his uniform. Thinking about how his instinct when getting the teamwork badge was to pin it next to his war medals. Thinking about how all of his anecdotes come from the war despite it only being 4 years of his life. Thinking about how all of his daily interests centre around the war. Thinking about how he, in the heat of the moment, refused to believe the war was over. Thinking about how his identity is so tightly tied to his military role that we don’t even know his name. Thinking about Pat’s increasingly relevant question “why is it always about the war with you?”
I would so love to know if it's an intentional effort on the captains part to keep the others away from the rest of his life, or if it's been so intrinsically linked to his identity that he doesn't know how to separate it any more
captain probably loves wedding planning bc he never dared dream to plan his own 😀
or alternatively he did have a wedding but it wasn't appropriate for him to have any say in the decoration ://
can people please not tag the bbc version in cbs ghosts posts, unless theyre talking about both - im happy to see posts about the cbs version, just not when i wanna read about the og series. theyre separate shows, that have separate intended audiences and i think tagging both is just going to start arguments and cause problems
- sincerely someone who just wants to avoid conflict x
cbs ghosts opinions
i hadnt intended on posting about cbs ghosts because i hadnt intended on watching it (it just didnt seem like my cup of tea) but the curiosity got to me and now i have thoughts, please stick around for below the cut to hear them (pls note that i have nothing against the show, but i also dont think i owe it any favours just because the story comes from our six idiots):
whys everyone so keen on the idea that havers left button house because he was a spy? no hate to headcanons I just don't see that it's likely to happen in the show
To my mind the more harrowing and more likely scenario is that he chose to go to the front because he knew how he felt about cap and it was causing to much pain to bare. he would rather go and risk his life fighting than stay and suffer being hopelessly in love for another minute.
He was able to recognise those feelings in himself and see them in cap as well but he knew they were never going to be together so he did the only thing that would get him away
the ghosts and lying
a common trend so far amongst the ghosts is that either in life or death they were involved in some kind of major deception, here are my examples so far -
1. deception in death:
thomas - obviously we know francis tricked him into getting himself killed so thats pretty straight forward
fanny - i would say her husband cheating on her and murdering her falls pretty easily into deception, tho i wouldnt be surprised if there were more to the story
humphrey - tho not directly linked, sophie deceived humph with the plot which lead to him being killed, tho his death also falls into the final category
plague ghosts - we all know mick caused their death when he brought back the plague and kept it from them
2. deception in life
pat - carols affair. pretty straight forward again
kitty - i mean everything eleanor does is a lie or manipulation, i presume she will also fall into the deception in death category but we dont yet know
julian - hes sort of an odd one out because he lies and cheats throughout his life, but i feel theres something we dont know yet about his death
fanny - i think the affair more broadly/ her husband being gay places her in this category, tho the death itself still falls under no 1.
3. deception after death (this one is quite a different category because it involves voluntary or involuntary mistruths the ghosts share)
humphrey - the cause of humphreys death is unknown to everyone except himself and he fails to explain it when he has the opportunity (through no fault of his own)
captain - we’ve seen him lie to himself about his sexuality for the better part of the first two seasons, and while hes now aware of it, its still something he is holding back from the others
thomas - he is seen repeatedly manipulating stories from his life to impress others (thomas thorne affair, woodworm men) and while hes always caught out he continues to do it
as far as i know this leaves mary and robin, tho plz let me know if theyve done something im forgetting. i also feel with cap and julian there will be a more significant connection (i def think theres foul play involved in julians heart attack and the captains death will surely be complicated)
im not too sure what this theory means and whether it will be linked to them eventually moving on (i dont think we’ll actually see that happen tho) but i do think this connection between them is significant
please let me know if you want to hear any specific death theories or ideas on why they havent moved on
can one of the other ghosts come out when captain does?
like they'll all be having a chat with him about how he knew he was gay and as he's describing it one of the others (honestly it doesn't matter who it could be any of them) pipes up with 'but everyone feels like that dont they'
and cue everyone turning their heads to them as we get an 'oh shit' moment
what's it gonna take to get ben and larry to write a gay ww2 movie, because I feel that's something we all need.
DUALITY IN SEX EDUCATION SERIES 3:
Did I hate Eric's arc? absolutely. Did elements of it feel toxic and selfish? absolutely. Did I like him a lot less this season? once again, absolutely.
But I don't think that's necessarily bad writing.
All people are capable of doing bad things just as they are of doing good. We are all flawed.
Just as we saw people improving themselves and trying to better their lives it is also an expectation to see people slip up.
Eric was self motivated and self serving, but I've seen that story play out in real life many times before. I think that he did was he felt was necessary and in the end will be a learning experience for his own development. I don't think the way he handled it on a personal level was right and he caused a lot of damage, but it is not bad writing for someone to be frustrating.
hey guys can you please interact with this with ideas for what button house was used for in ww2 because I have been researching for hours and come up with next to nothing :
I doubt it was a war hospital because there wouldn't be troops there and I don't think it was a training base because there are women and they weren't trained as far as I know
Could it have been a war supply depot? we know they had to initiate lockdown protocols so it could've have been to protect supplies?
That's basically my only idea rn so any input is greatly appreciated
someone please prove me wrong, but I'm pretty sure Cap and Havers are never fully on screen together except at that one moment when Havers walks away from him at the window after saying he's leaving 🥲
yes @ this!!! there is not a single shot where we see both of their faces together! obviously when shooting conversation it's normal to have over the shoulder shots and close ups but you would also expect some kind of wide shot that frames them both.
It creates a real disconnect between the characters which brilliantly assists the narrative. when we see each of their faces we know that they feel the same towards eachother, but because they don't know it/can't express it we don't see them experience those feelings together. there is a line of separation. The one time we almost see both faces is when havers comes into the office, but just as his face is about to come into view cap turns his back on the camera
whether it was an intentional move or not it's a fantastic way to present what they were feeling. they believe all that they feel is one sided
reminder that this image exists:
tho its an edited image rather than one taken specifically for the show there mustve still been a process of selection involved. captain is not an CO in this photo, and it is 5 button SD service dress. in 1937 service dress was replaced in most cases by the battledress which means the image could be any time before then.
as he was not an CO this would imply he worked his way up the ranks/ trained at sandhurst rather than simply earning commission due to status at the beginning of ww2. he also doesnt appear to have any NCO insignia, neither do the others (apart from who i assume is the warrant officer below him on the right).
he does not look especially young in this image so i feel it would be taken some time after ww1 and it seems strange for him to still have no rank at this point in time if he had served in ww1 - which i dont believe he did (especially given his involvement in operation william would imply some level of expertise)
we know they do their research and it wouldve been so easy to find a ww2 era officers image to paste him into, so it HAS to be intentional on some level
as always plz feel free to correct/ add to this info as i have done a lot of research but i cant claim to be super knowledgeable on the topic
