How to make an INTP more comfortable around us?
First of all, I would suggest that you make sure that your INTP has food and water. You see, INTPs can be kind of uncomfortable in groups (Since you saidĀ āus,ā Iām assuming thereās a group of you.), and we sort of like to have something in hand in order to keep us calm. I drink ridiculous amounts of water and/or coffee when Iām with other people. Otherwise I start feeling nervous.Ā
INTPs also donāt tend to care for small talk, so maybe consider letting the conversation flow towards big ideas. If you can get an INTP talking and you actually enjoy hearing what heās saying, you should definitely encourage him. We often feel like weāre just rambling and that people donāt really care about what we have to say. This is often because we donāt know how to read body language all that well, and we need verbal encouragement from others. Just donāt overdo it, because weāll be able to tell if youāre being insincere.Ā
We also enjoy activities more than just talking. By activities I mean something that engages the mind. A game is usually a good way to go, or perhaps a movie. Or something along those lines. Sitting and chatting quickly bores an INTP. Just saying.
I guess these are just the things that come to mind just now. There are probably other ways you could help an INTP friend. Well, probably donāt ask any questions about his personal life. Ever. We often feel that even the most basic questions (Howād your day go, for instance.) are a personal attack somehow. So, steer clear of that sort of thing.
I hope this helps, and thanks for stopping by.

Walter is my cousinās dog. He really has a thing for swimming.

Iāve never seen a butt-mounted camera, but damn, this dog knows where he wants to go, and goes there fast.

Twitter has a 140 character limit, yet I still found a way to tell one of the longest and most obnoxious knock-knock jokes of all time within a single tweet.
I am more proud of this accomplishment than any human right has the right to be.

The Edge of All Things
One of the more annoying INTP things that we all know that we deal with is what I call the edge of all things, but which has the more popular appelation of social awkwardness.
Itās the thing that makes up all those little INTP moments that we seem to find so relatable. Everyone talks about it, and everyone understands it.
And nobody knows what to do about it. Letās be honest. Is there an INTP out there who has perfected a Formula for the prevention of social awkwardness? I highly doubt it. Even when we try our hardest to be outgoing, there is something within us (the combination of cognitive functions, if you must know) that seems determined to keep us awkwardly babbling or else pathetically silent.
I call it the edge of all things, which is a double-meaning term. You see, itās the edge of all things for the INTP himself. Heās come to the edge of his universe and found an odd assortment of people, and in the language he knows so well, packed with obscure terms and delivered in a usually reedy voice of Nerd-dom, he tries to draw the others to himself.
But to the others, they are not at the edge, but the INTP is. They are the center of all things, and the INTP serves as a specimen of oddity, to be smiled at or ignored, but rarely listened to seriously.
Thatās sort of how I think of our innate social awkwardness. Itās awkward because weāre standing on a border between two universes, and itās uncomfortable for us to do so. Can we fix the awkwardness? Probably not completely. But we can learn about the new universe that seems so boring at first glance.
And it doesnāt hurt to remind yourself that others would be just as awkward as you are if they were on the edge of all things.
