I have been in fandom for a long time, and when dealing with real life people, some of y’all are the most nasty, entitled little bitches in the universe. I have seen band members be forced to sell their dream homes and move to new cities for privacy. I have seen celebrities get escorted to safety during meet and greets because of a fan triggered panic attack. I have seen fans attack their favorite actor. I have seen fans attack a celebrity’s loved ones. I have seen fans insult their spouses and children. I have seen fans make a celebrity so uncomfortable with their lustful suggestions upon meeting them.

It is not okay to scream at, grab, make demands of, catcall, or otherwise reduce a celebrity to anything less than a person. It is not okay to treat their friends and family as anything less than a person. It is not okay to stalk them, to visit their homes, interrupt their personal lives, or to share any photos, information, or data they have specifically requested be kept private. Do not hug them if they don’t hug you first. Shake a hand, say you’re a fan, thank them, and move on. It’s not that hard.
