Hunger for Adam? Maybe he hasn't eaten for a couple days bc he's engrossed in a case, and Kev notices how in pain he is and gets him some food?
Adam felt his stomach clench, cramping painfully, and he instantly regretted that last coffee. He let out a slow breath, sitting back in his chair for a moment to rub at his eyes. His head was throbbing, something he hadn’t actively noticed while he was so engrossed in the CCTV footage he’d been watching for, if the clock was to be believed, 14 hours straight.
Just as his stomach chose to grumble loudly, a plate was placed beside him with a perfectly made sandwich on it. He glanced up, offering Kevin a smile.
“I’m not hungry,” he said quietly, leaning into Kevin’s touch as his hand fell to his shoulder.
“Your stomach might disagree. Eat.”
Adam sighed as his stomach grumbled again. He knew he was hungry under the pain and the bubbling nausea. He knew both things were likely because he hadn’t eaten in over 24 hours. Still, he’d reached a point where food didn’t seem appetising at all.
“Eat, and then I’m taking you home.”
“No,” Adam protested, pulling away from Kevin’s hand that had worked its way into his hair, fingers scraping idly against his scalp in a way that threatened to lull him to sleep. “There’s still at least ten more hours of this to sift through.”
“And it will be there tomorrow,” Kevin said firmly, pulling up a chair beside Adam. “If you don’t look after yourself, how can you expect to save her?”
Adam had to swallow the lump that rose suddenly in his throat, blinking as a heat spread across his cheeks, eyes stinging.
“I know this one means a lot to you,” Kevin said softly, taking Adam’s hand in his. “But you gotta make sure you’re operating at 100%.”
Adam nodded, ducking his head as he sniffed heavily. “Yeah. Yeah, I know, you’re right.”
To prove he was listening, he took a bite of the sandwich, and the moment he swallowed hunger flooded him, his body desperate for more.
“Thank you,” he whispered, offering Kevin a smile.
“S’what I’m here for,” Kevin said with a grin, giving Adam’s hand a squeeze. “Someone’s gotta look after your stupid ass.”
Adam laughed, shaking his head. He knew it was true, but it still seemed ridiculous to him that Kevin even found him worth looking after. In lieu of a response, he leaned in to press a kiss to Kevin’s lips, soft and chaste and warm, and just that simple act gave him a renewed sense of energy.
“Thank you,” he said again, a little more firmly before returning to his sandwich.
