apologies. when i drew this it wasn’t originally supposed to be barry, so the body type didn’t turn out 100% the way i wanted it to. i guess the front angle didn’t do it justice haha

i just want to clarify that im not trying to be passive aggressive at all!! i try to compliment all the art i reblog here because it’s always great art

i just want to encourage people to draw barry fat because i think it really shows the fandom’s (often internalized) fatphobia that it struggles to picture a loveable person in a relationship as fat (which he canonically is)

and i definitely do reblog art of fat barry!! it’s in my “barry drawn fat” tag!

in the future i can try to provide resources on how to draw fat people, but drawing fat people isn’t harder than drawing thin people, so i dont think lack of ability is really the issue?

anyway i always try to explain why drawing barry thin is harmful when people ask. im just trying to make the fandom a better place for other fat people

i’m glad you asked! 

i drew him thin here (or rather, lean muscled) because as a native person, too many times i see native characters – which i was drawing barry here as – fat. or overweight. this is a common trope with native people and it’s used to make us seem lazy or greedy. and as a fat native person this is particularly hurtful. 

this was honestly done as 50% a joke because i was sick and tired of seeing the same griffin-looking barry floating around the tag and i wanted to give him some more personality other than ‘boring white guy’.

okay i understand, thanks for clarifying. canonically barry is described as "stout" so i personally get tired of seeing him drawn thin because the reason people usually draw him as thin is because, as you mentioned, they stereotype fat people as greedy/lazy/boring as well, and barry doesnt fit the stereotype

im still not sure the right answer is to draw the only canonically fat character as thin, but i get what you were doing. i guess there isn't really a good solution either way ://
