Annotations
Annotations are up on YouTube! You can turn them off by clicking on the gear icon, but if you want to find out who animated which shot and where you can see more of their work, click away! There will also be an HD render without the VHS effects so you can see a higher quality version of everyone’s work. (And so I can fix a few typos. Very sorry Stephanie Blakey and Phui Jing Ling.)
There has been talk for years about making a live-action remake of the highly-acclaimed anime film Akira. Some argue that this film is too classic to be touched, and others fear it would not translate well into live-action (such as Tetsuo's transformation). Still more feel that Max Landis and Josh Trank's Chronicle was already the closest adaptation of Akira. In the meantime, we can still enjoy wonderful imaginings of the remake that never was, such as this Simpsons/Akira trailer, that pays homage to Katsuhiro Ôtomo's outstanding film as well as Matt Groening's beloved Springfieldians. The Bartkira Project, as it is called, was originally the creation of artist Ryan Humphrey that blossomed into a collaborative project bringing hundred of artists together to recreate all six volumes of the Akira manga through the lens of Matt Groening's Simpson's characters and locations. Bartkira, which can be read for free on its website, started as a fun little meme and has now grown into a bit of a
Commercials
Do not re-upload the Bartkira trailer. Do not re-upload the Bartkira trailer with ads attached. I can't believe I even have to say this.
All of us on Bartkira worked on this FOR FREE. We submitted our time for free to create something fun. Loading our work onto your account with commercials attached so you can make a buck not only disrespects all of the work we're doing (because I'm pretty sure none of us are seeing a cent of it), it puts the project in jeopardy by attempting to profit off of someone else's copyright. No-one benefits from a ZipCar commercial attached to the front when the original work goes straight to the video.
Once more for the people in the back, Bartkira is commercial free!
If you have a copy up somewhere else, you and your video host have been notified. Do not do this in the future. If you have questions about hosting an alternate language version or a comparison with the original trailer, you can contact me at bartkiraroadshow [at] gmail [dot] com.

Updates!
Hi everyone!
Thank you for following the Bartkira trailer! Due to a surplus of work in my personal life and a few delays in animation, the trailer will be premiering in about a week or so, ideally before Emerald City Comic Con.
We are all full up for 2D animators, however if there are any visual effects animators out there who specialize in typography and 90s VHS style effects, please send me an e-mail at bartkiraroadshow [at] gmail [dot] com.
Thank you for all of your support and I can't wait to show it to you all!

Some previews of Bartkira the Animated Trailer based on project by Ryan Humphrey and James Harvey. http://bartkiraroadshow.tumblr.com/ If you want to animate on it, submissions are open : bartkiraroadshow [at] gmail [dot] com
Thank you for the coverage, Catsuka! Kaitlin Sullivan is producing the animated trailer and submissions are closed since this is being finished very soon. :)
A small preview of the Bartkira Project shot I worked on, it was so much fun animating it <3 I am really grateful because I never thought I would someday animate the Simpsons characters AND in the Akira universe, thank you so much !
I am so excited and can’t wait to see the finished trailer :D
Milhouse skateboarding into oblivion. A scene I contributed to the Bartkira - Animated Trailer project that is currently in progress. I was a bit daunted when I saw that I had to create an explosion of some sort for this scene, but the look on Milhouse’s face and some fun experimentation with smoke lead me to enjoy every moment working on it.
