To put it quite simply, if Oswald can do something, Ed Nygma will do it better – or, at the very least, put his well-being in danger to make the attempt. That said, he’s not a fan of the terms of Mooney’s compliance. Whatever her reasoning in being so transparent with regards to her establishment of power, it’s serving more than the simple purpose of getting under his skin. Nostrils flare, his eyebrows twitch.

“Is that a bluff?” Oh, Fish. You’re used to dealing with Oswald, with Butch. With men who say yes ma’am and bite their tongues because they know better. Ironically, it’ll take a genius to cross her, because as he takes one knee in a manner befitting a knight receiving a dubbing, he gives her a sardonic wink. Just a little bit of flair to highlight the fact that putting his knees on the ground and saying a few words doesn’t actually mean anything. The icing on the cake – a quasi-mocking, “Pretty please?”

“I never wanted to be the king piece. I’m more effective as a rook or a knight. But any imbecile could tell you that the queen is the most powerful piece on the board. The king is just a sitting duck.”

If Nygma looked close enough, he could see the slight twitch of Fish’s jaw as he proceeded to get down on two knees and give her a please--no, a pretty please, with a shit-eating grin that made her want to stick her heel in his chest and force his back down into the dirt to snub him out like a cigarette butt.

Oh, the look of fear that would produce would be so delicious... but Oswald absolutely would not care for that. Priorities, priorities. So a snarl of her lip was all he got in return--no thanks should be expected.

“Hmmm...”

She hummed aloud, as if still contemplating the bargain even after he had given her what she’d asked for. It didn’t hurt that he’d thrown in a little shameless flattery. Fish always liked being told how great she was.

“I’ve never been known as a flake and I won’t start now with Oswald. But... perhaps I could find a new, shiny play-toy to distract him with.”

Personally, she never understood Oswald’s attraction to a man like Edward. But she supposed she had standards, unlike her poor depraved underling.

Holy shit, Fish. Give him a minute here to catch his composure again, because that was so brutal it might have actually killed him where he stands.

“Where did I say I expected this service for free?” Don’t worry, Fish. It has occurred to Edward that one way to defeat the Penguin is to go right over his head and appeal to the one force on earth which has never failed to make him crumble.

“Quid pro quo. I’m not unreasonable.”

Fish gave the slightest roll of her eyes at that. From what she knew, Edward Nygma was more stubborn than a mule. An admirable quality in an ally--an extremely annoying one in an enemy.

Another annoying quality of Nygma’s was his undeterred pride, something she knew he would never give up.

“How about you get on your knees and beg for it?”

A request so seemingly effortless, but would allow her to walk away without having a conversation with Oswald that would undoubtedly end with tensions high between them.
