Apps suggestions for folks with CDDS
You may have seen a million and one posts on here about recommended apps to use to help with your CDD, most of them always including the same things, so I'd like to recommend some other apps that may or may not have been talked about on this platform before that helps me navigate my CDD.
First, let's go over the common suggestions:
- Simply Plural: A part & Front tracking app which can also be used as a symptom tracker. There's many options for customisability. Simply Plural also offers integrated ways to communicate between parts.
- Octocon: A part & Front Tracking app. This app allows for journalling and, like Simply Plural, can be used as a symptom tracker if you set it up right. There's few options for customisability but lots more will be added in future updates. No integrated way to communicate among parts, but you can do it via the discord bot you can sync the app to.
- Ampersand: A new upcoming part & front tracking app which, in its current state of development, is not recommended for full time use. It focuses on offline functionality and trying to reinvent the wheel. Customisability is great, although some folks used to alternatives such as Simply Plural may disagree with that, as the customisability isn't what they're used to.
- Lighthouse: A journalling website centred around those who have CDDs which can also be used for part tracking. Front tracking isn't integrated into the platform, but could be done if you just wrote it down.
Here's some less common suggestions, but ones I've still seen spread around:
- Antar: A great alternative to discord, or simply plural when it comes to part communication.
- Twinote: A great part communication alternative, can also be used to journal.
- Obsidian: A fully customisable note taking app that can be used for part tracking, front tracking, innerworld mapping, and a lot more. Takes time to set up.
- Notion: A note taking and productivity app that can be used for part tracking, school, to-do lists, innerworld mapping, front tracking, symptom management, and many many more. Takes time to set up.
Ones I've never seen suggested before, or only on the rare occasion:
- May Beautiful Journal: A calendar and journalling app. Can be a bit buggy on slower devices and is unfortunately no longer available on iOS via conventional means. But offers a very visual calendar that can be used to keep track of what needs to be done in a day, and what you have done in a day. Very useful when it comes to amnesia barriers.
- ChildReward: Create multiple profiles within one account, create tasks that need to be done, and upon completion you receive stars. Stars can be used to save up for rewards.
- Class Dojo: A great app to reward teamwork between parts and reward them for working towards healing goals. Create a teacher account and add students to your classroom and reward them for good behaviour. A great way to practice self compassion. Comes with a built in calendar for events.
- A Shopping List App: I use SoftList. As someone with a CDD, I often find myself with conflicting wants and needs, and I often find myself forgetting what my needs or wants are in general. You can create categories to organise items and mark them off once you've bought them. Or alternatively, you can create something with similar functionality in Notion.
- Similarly to a shopping list app, there's plenty of apps out there that allow you to mark what food is in the house. With a CDD and comorbidities, I often find myself forgetting what's in the house or what I even like to eat. Seeing it all in front of me in one easy app saves a lot of stress. Similar functionality can be replicated in Notion or simply any note taking app, get creative and make it work for you!
- Finch: A nice to-do list to keep everyone on the same page about what needs to be done. Can be customised in many ways to meet your needs.
- To-Do List: An app which shows your to-do list RIGHT THERE ON YOUR HOME SCREEN. Amazing for amnesia as I don't need to navigate so many apps or folders to find it, it's just there, with options for things for me to do.
- Any Sleep Tracking App: With a CDD, I find it hard to remember or exactly know when I've last slept. Having an app or device that can track that for me helps A LOT and keeps everyone on the same page about why we may be feeling like absolute dog shit.
- Shop: Helps me know if I have packages on the way, even if I forgot to note down what I bought.
- Story Plotter: Good for system tracking, specifically when it comes to marking internal relationships between parts.
And last but not least, check out this new community resources, Systionary! It's a Wikipedia compiling CDD terms and is a relatively new resource. Consider checking it out if you're interested!
