I looked at the moon tonight and she says hi by the way. Also there are craters in craters
If speed limits were reduced to like 25-30 mph and most stoplights were replaced with roundabouts then traffic would actually move faster because going 45mph past Walmart certainly feels faster but then you stop at a stoplight every hundred feet and your average speed turns out to be like 15-20 mph but people don’t think that roundabouts are faster because for some reason they only ever replace like one stoplight with a roundabout so people being released from another stoplight down the road like a pack of racehorses all charge into the roundabout all at once and make it confusing and scary to get into it when in fact if every intersection was a roundabout then there would be a steady low density stream of cars all the time instead of a sudden stampede of them and it would also make things safer for pedestrians and cyclists but who the fuck cares about the lives of pedestrians and cyclists I guess and anyways I hate American car infrastructure
You think people care about speed limits?
They will if you make the roads narrow enough so that they’re scared into going the correct speed limit.
This also implies people will drive roundabouts correctly which they definitely do not
They don’t do it correctly because they don’t use a lot of them. If everybody uses roundabouts all the time they’ll have more practice with it.
Several state departments of transportation recently illustrated how the installation of roundabouts or traffic circles can help improve saf
Roundabouts significantly improve traffic safety. Even multi-lane roundabouts. Even in the US, where we’re bad at them. People still hate them, but they work.
If roundabouts have a thousand supporters, I'm one of them, if roundabouts have one supporter, that's me, if roundabouts have no supporters, I've died at a poorly controlled intersection

The ISS Transits the Moon Image Credit & Copyright: Sébastien Borie Text: Keighley Rockcliffe (NASA GSFC, UMBC CSST, CRESST II)
Explanation: Nope, that is not an alien spaceship landing on the Moon! This is an image of the International Space Station (ISS) as it begins to transit in front of the Moon. The ISS is in low-Earth orbit (LEO) where it wizzes around the Earth every 90 minutes. Orbiting the Earth 16 times per day for 25 years, the ISS has photobombed many familiar celestial objects including Venus, Mars, Saturn, and the Sun. Thousands of experiments led by researchers from over one hundred countries have been conducted on the ISS. Growing protein crystals in low-gravity was one of the first experiments onboard the ISS and continues to contribute to new medical treatments. ISS astronauts study plant growth, water recycling, human health, and more to support the Artemis missions which will take humans farther than they’ve ever gone before. Next time you are out and about at night, try to spot the ISS zooming across the sky!

hot take:Â
Gloin is the sexiest dwarf by dwarf standards.
Kili is the sexiest dwarf by elf standards.
Thorin is the sexiest dwarf by human standards
& Bombur is the sexiest dwarf by hobbit standards
#ITS TRUE AND YOU SHOULD SAY IT #(ALSO THORIN AND KILI BEING ‘UGLY’ BY DWARF STANDARDS IS AMUSING CONTENT)
further take: Kili is straight-up ugly by dwarf standards. Thorin is like, the dwarf equivalent of Benedict Cumberbatch. Some dwarves think he’s an absolutely dreamboat, others think he is super weird looking, there’s very little middle ground.
omg now i’m like. what does this make frodo by hobbit standards
by hobbit standards, I’m afraid Frodo is probably. not conventionally attractive at all.
Frodo is the sexiest hobbit by elf standards
@femmefaramir this is some fucking galaxy brain level tags and im crying out of sheer horror
Every day, against my will, the LOTR fandom makes posts.
this is a genuine question because ive always been curious about going but what can someone do at the planetarium? are there activities specifically for adults?
WAIT I just saw this I hope you are still here!
I highly encourage you to look up your local planetarium, because every place is different, and every place has its own kind of events or shows or activities they offer. Generally speaking, though, there will be sky shows available to see. Different shows can target different age ranges, but most planetariums will have a variety of content to appeal to wide audiences. So there may be shows specifically targeting early learners, yes, but there also are likely general audience shows!
Most planetariums will have a night sky tour. These are great places to start! They're often narrated live by a presenter who will be able to show you what is in your sky that very evening. Live, presenter-led shows are my favorites to do and see (as opposed to pre-recorded fulldome video - which can also be amazing).
Some places have events catered specifically to adults, like wine nights, or live band album releases, or laser shows, or lots of other things like that. Again, check your local place! This isn't a thing everywhere, but some domes are doing some crazy cool programming for a big variety of audiences.
If you want to do more, you can always talk to the staff! Generally speaking, the people giving these shows love what they do, love talking about space, and love seeing other people get excited about it. Take all your wild questions to them and they will likely happily chat with you about it after a show. And they'll be able to guide you to more info if you want it, or recommend future shows to come and see.
If you need help finding your local place feel free to hop off anon and I'll help you!
