i’m mostly posting this as a reminder to myself, but i think other men struggling with body image or people who are dysphoric about their hips can benefit from seeing this too.

this is part of a body positivity campaign launched by clothing company dressman called #justthewayyouare and if you click that link there’s more body types being represented in their ads.

i have never seen any body positivity for men like this before, marketing ploy or not it DOES help me seeing my body type (wide hips and chub and all) being represented in a public space like this, especially with the word “perfect” attached to it.

i’ve came back to this picture for a while now as a reminder that my body is a valid body, and i hope it will help someone else too.

scientists today have confirmed that the 25 million year old Great Barrier Reef is dead. nearly 92% of the reef is dead due to the bleaching of the corals caused by humans. bleaching is when coral reefs look white and colorless and is caused by warm water that expellees algae (which gives the coral color & nutrients) and doesn’t allow them return to the coral. the coral then dies. el niño has also made a huge effect on it, letting warmer water stay longer. this is caused by humans. humans have added more and more co2 into the atmosphere, which has taken a major toll on the oceans. the oceans have become more acidic because more carbon dioxide is being dissolved into them. this makes it harder for reef building organisms to construct hard skeletons. the great barrier reef is one of the most complex ecosystems in the world and is home to thousands of species of animals. it is truly sad how this could have been prevented and yet no one took the measures to keep it safe.

While we humans have fucked up, don’t spread things on how something is beyond repair when there’s a chance. Otherwise we’re sending the message of “Why care, we’re fucked anyways”.

OP, if you actually looked into this issue and studied the facts instead of spreading alarmist BS, you would know that 93% of the reefs surveyed by a particular team were found to have some level of bleaching, not that they’re simply “dead”.

Anyway, what is actually happening is that large amounts of the Great Barrier Reef have been found to have suffered bleaching, a consequence of a 1 degree centigrade increase in global temperatures, coupled with the changing behaviour of El Nino. Severe bleaching can result in the death of coral, but only a fraction (a large fraction, admittedly) of the reefs affected could be classed as “severe”. Bleaching occurs when the symbiotic algae that live within the coral are forced to leave due to adverse conditions. And because said algae are responsible for the provision of nutrients to the coral, severe bleaching can result in coral death. So yeah, you got that right at least. Here is a graphic released by the survey team illustrating their main results:

As you can see, the region most severely affected is in the north, in which over 80% of surveyed reefs were “severely” affected. When averaged with the central and southern sectors, this means that roughly 38% of the total reef area is severely bleached. A large amount to be sure, and a potential travesty for biodiversity if nothing is done to salvage the situation, but it isn’t 100%, or even 92%.

Please stop trying to make people think that the Great Barrier Reef is beyond saving.This is a potential biological disaster, and the last thing we need right now is the public deciding not to care any more because “lol it’s dead anyway so why bother?”
