like imagine him immediately noticing that peoples gaze is no longer on him & Ser Criston training and instead on the two Velaryon (Strong) boys who walked into the courtyard

Now he sees this as an opportunity to shown he is no longer a weak boy who suffered the taunts from his childhood and is now a formidable fighter and an skilled swordsman Aemond essentially hiding from them, perhaps behind them,

Aemond slamming his hands down, and Cole exclaiming to him that it isn't time yet and Aemond growls and says that the bastards are here, it is the perfect time

Abeing a quick wit makes a split second decision and asks Cole to initiate Plan Bastard which is intense sparring session

Now of course, Ser Criston is concerned asking him something along the lines of 'Are you sure, My Prince?' and Aemond replying 'I would not ask if I was not ready, the question is, are you?' with Cole sighing giving in and saying 'Of course I am,.'

Don`t mind me just going on with obsessing over that Targtower brothers scene🙈

The way Aegon`s eyes are fixed on Aemond`s face - as if his whole being is attuned to his brother`s every move. Like in this moment Aemond is holding Aegon`s entire life in his hands - and actually he is.

The way Aegon continues staring at Aemond while giving zero fucks about Criston standing 0.5 inches apart and gripping him by the shoulder - until he begins to realize that Aemond is actually allowing this to happen. And then hope, pleading and some kind of lust (I`d like to explore this last one in a separate post - update: here it is) give way to -

- a heartbreaking mix of hopelessness and despair with a pinch of anger and a sprinkle of sadness. Phenomenal acting from TGC here👏 All of this is in the set of Aegon`s jaw, in the subtle movements of his mouth, in his posture and in the way he removes his hands from Aemond`s face and takes a step back. If only we could see his eyes (screw this angle, honestly).

And only then Aegon acknowledges Criston`s presence - by shoving him and storming away, as if saying 'Fuck you all! Yes, I`m forced to to this, but I refuse to be dragged. I`m going on my own'.

The thing is, IMO Aegon is that unbothered by Criston`s words and actions because he knows that there is a person who can literally, physically stop Cole from getting his way - probably the only one in King`s Landing if not in the entire Seven Kingdoms - and this person is standing in front of him. And he`s going to do this, right? He`s going to help because he`s his brother, and he asked him so nicely, and why the hell is he doing nothing? And then Aegon registers what Criston`s just said - "The Queen awaits". He`s here on the orders of his mother, the Queen, and so is Aemond. And Aemond is not going to go against their mother`s will, whatever Aegon says or does. He`s not going to pick him, he`s not enough - once again.
