I think Iâve reblogged this 10 times in the past few days. I love it

Because treating people fairly often means treating them differently.
This is something that I teach my students during the first week of school and they understand it. Eight year olds can understand this and all it costs is a box of band-aids.
I have each students pretend they got hurt and need a band-aid. Children love band-aids. I ask the first one where they are hurt. If he says his finger, I put the band-aid on his finger. Then I ask the second one where they are hurt. No matter what that child says, I put the band-aid on their finger exactly like the first child. I keep doing that through the whole class. No matter where they say their pretend injury is, I do the same thing I did with the first one.
After they all have band-aids in the same spot, I ask if that actually helped any of them other than the first child. I say, âWell, I helped all of you the same! You all have one band-aid!â And theyâll try to get me to understand that they were hurt somewhere else. I act like Iâm just now understanding it. Then I explain, âThere might be moments this year where some of you get different things because you need them differently, just like you needed a band-aid in a different spot.âÂ
If at any time any of my students ask why one student has a different assignment, or gets taken out of the class for a subject, or gets another teacher to come in and help them throughout the year, I remind my students of the band-aids they got at the start of the school year and they stop complaining. Thatâs why eight year olds can understand equity.Â

This is why ALL police are garbage. Yes your daddy too.
It occurred to Pooh and Piglet that they hadnât heard from Eeyore for several days, so they put on their hats and coats and trotted across the Hundred Acre Wood to Eeyoreâs stick house. Inside the house was Eeyore.
âHello Eeyore,â said Pooh.
âHello Pooh. Hello Piglet,â said Eeyore, in a Glum Sounding Voice.
âWe just thought weâd check in on you,â said Piglet, âbecause we hadnât heard from you, and so we wanted to know if you were okay.â
Eeyore was silent for a moment. âAm I okay?â he asked, eventually. âWell, I donât know, to be honest. Are any of us really okay? Thatâs what I ask myself. All I can tell you, Pooh and Piglet, is that right now I feel really rather Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. Which is why I havenât bothered you. Because you wouldnât want to waste your time hanging out with someone who is Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All, would you now.â
Pooh looked and Piglet, and Piglet looked at Pooh, and they both sat down, one on either side of Eeyore in his stick house.
Eeyore looked at them in surprise. âWhat are you doing?â
âWeâre sitting here with you,â said Pooh, âbecause we are your friends. And true friends donât care if someone is feeling Sad, or Alone, or Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. True friends are there for you anyway. And so here we are.â
âOh,â said Eeyore. âOh.â And the three of them sat there in silence, and while Pooh and Piglet said nothing at all; somehow, almost imperceptibly, Eeyore started to feel a very tiny little bit better.
Because Pooh and Piglet were There. No more; no less.

âIf you leave her, make sure sheâs not the love of your life. Otherwise you will meet her one day, on an autumn street, yellow leaves blowing about her, her arms full of her child and a happy marriage. And she will as you expectantly, her eyes gleaming, hoping you found happiness too, âWhat did you trade me for?â And you will not be able to answer. Because all you traded true love in for is empty hands and a half full life.â

UmâŠat the risk of sounding snobby here: Do the elitist GOP get that the house doesnât even look that good?
Not that Iâm judging: I grew up in some mediocre places too. Itâs fine, and there are certainly worse places. I agree with her: It was likely fine to grow up in. Â
But itâs a pretty mundane and rundown. By any standards.
But itâs a standing house. So apparently, per the Republicans, sheâs a limousine liberal. Â
I second this, I grew up poor and this houseâŠwell, itâs not a âdumpâ or anything, but is no better a house than I was raised in with two parents barely making enough money to make the mortgage payments.
Thatâs what I canât get over.
They are acting like this is some big Hollywood mansion.
And itâs really not.
This reminds me of the time Fox News tried to paint poor people as rich because 97% have a refrigerator
Meanwhile, at Secy of Education Betsy DeVosâs house:
Not to throw stones, but having delivered pizza to the DeVos kids?
That is one home on their property. One of several. The gatekeeper asks which address you are delivering to. FOR ONE FAMILY. They are grosser than that picture makes you feel
What the FUCK?
A house like that looks so tiny though, like a two-bedroom, one toilet, and no basement, with a tiny kitchen. I mean, yeah, Iâve seen people live in worse. But saying this is an averagely good house? Comparing to what many middle-classed americans are actually capable of living in?
Sect. Of Edu lives grossly rich while teachers in this country struggle to make it pay check to pay check and often get a second or third job. As a teacher, I am beyond blessed in a district that pays me very well- especially as a first year teacher. But so many of my fellow teachers are screwed over salary wise year after year.
Big fucking boy!!!
What breed is this!!! I LOVE HIM!
heâs a tibetan mastiff! also heâs blonde
this big boy looks huge because, well, he is. but heâs also extremely FLUFFY. judging by the military uniforms and the âno photographyâ sign, he must be in a military K9 unit. and it takes three (four?) people to groom him!!!
dogs like this are huge and fluffy because they were bred to protect livestock from predators! the hair helps to prevent bites and scratches from wolves and bears! this big boyâs parents were probably equally fluffy!Â
