Bass vibrates through the black-painted wood of the recessed booth, blooming as invisible florets of pressure on Sorcha's shoulders. She leans deeper into the thick diner-style cushions, feeling the familiar bunching of her oxblood leather jacket at her elbows as she wraps her arms around the figure lounging in her lap and draws them closer.
Strobing lights and scattering purple rays dance in Matsuba's blonde shaggy hair, and Sorcha wonders how and when they got here as their lips meet once more. Two human bodies thrumming with music, and yet somehow Matsuba feels... hollow. He's lighter than usual in her lap, despite his deceptively trained body, when was the last time he ate?
Pulling back, she tries to click their gazes together, but he's avoidant, dim eyes slowly drifting out to the dance floor and performers. She frowns, pulls his blonde locks away from his shoulder and neck, hoping to catch his attention again.
Her full lips brush against the point where his high collar nestles under his jawline, and she hooks a finger to pull it down. More kisses follow, little laps of tongue and applications of suction to tease the nerves into awareness.
Matsuba's body shivers in her arms, a queasy spasm. She tries to pull away at the uncanny thought, when a bone-white tongue invades her mouth from a slit among the muscles of his shoulder. His head lolls, body unraveling in her hands. Sagging, bloated corpses of worms turn to shriveled knots of bone and sinew-
Sorcha awakens in Hoenn, dragged to consciousness by a sob wracking her shoulders. She gathers her bearings in the early light, sea birds calling. Matsuba...

"Testing your strength are we?"
The man running the booth has his Machamp hand you a hammer.
"Hit that lever at your feet, see if you can ring the bell!"
You lift the hammer overhead and bring it down with all your might!
The pinnacle shoots up and the fairgrounds ring with clarity!
Machamp thumps his chest with a pleased roar and the man attending claps, clearly impressed.
Your prize is a GIANT Pikachu Plushie! It's your height and three times as wide. You may need help carrying it around.
Sorcha sizes up the Pikachu with a huge grin before giving it a hug. "He's PERFECT!" She reaches into her bag to pull out a picnic blanket which she uses to tie a large sling around the enormous plush. In a display of fabric handling, she manages to get the plush compacted and mostly contained within the blanket, with only large floppy ears escaping the top where the corners tie together. With a click of the tongue, her mated pair of Skarmory trot over from the periphery of the fairground where they have been occupied pecking smaller bug types out of the stands of grasses. Sorcha holds out the bundle by the knotted handle and Maeve, the larger of the two birds, lightly grasps it in her beak. Corcoran, red plated and more petite, searches Sorcha's open pockets on her leather jacket for snacks as she thanks the attendant and his Machamp for the lovely activity.
so excited abt this night for her
She's enjoying watching the curious gathering of young people from her 12th story hotel room across from the arena, their glowsticks and body paint already shining as the sun slides behind skyscrapers. They're parading down the street in a coordinated sort of jaunty imitation march when there's a distant popping-thud. Looking up with her binocs, she can watch the shock wave reverberate along the colosseum forcefield. Quickly back-calculating from the angle and arc, she locates the bulk of the crashed chopper, suspended in an emergency response psychic bubble protruding from the visible barrier. Tiers of protective energy catch heavier falling metal debris, stopping them well above from any pedestrian observers below. What these fields don't seem to detect, is the gentle fluttering motion of money slowly pouring out of the largest captured pieces of wreckage. She can see from here how the high winds have begun to gently free the copter's cargo, wafting the cash down to cheering spectators below. Laughing, she tapes a plastic bag propped open with chopsticks to hang below the window laundry line, and leaves her window open before heading downstairs to join the revelry. Any money that happens to blow in will go to the house fund, but anything she picks up downstairs will be hers to spend as she pleases.
@redlegend replied to your post:
He grins. He can't help but hug her and spin her around before stepping back to sign. <<I did! You pulled all the stops out. You did awesome- I'm really happy to see you.>>
"It's been so much fun, I can't tell you how good it is to see you again, Red." Her hands inscribe the signs for missing him dearly, and she tugs him into another hug again.
When they part again, she thumbs small tears of reunion from her eyes and reaches to cradle his jaw in her warm palms. She affectionately pats his hair with her fingertips where it escapes from under his hat at the back of his head. "I'm so glad you watched us." She's still unfailingly direct in her affection, like sunlight; her touch is confident and her leather jacket smells of cloves.
<< Hey. Come over. You did incredible!>>
"Red!!" She wraps around him in a companionable hug. "Win some, lose some, but you're one to talk Champ of Champs!" After winning a hard fought victory over Orre's Wes, she's finally been knocked out of the Challenger's Deadpool by Kanto's Professor Rosemallow.
"Couldn't have lost to a more serious guy, did you see that Houndoom of his?"

If Sorcha had pokémon abilities? (dash game)
Own Tempo - Has its own tempo, and that prevents it from becoming confused. Sorcha draws a lot of strength from relentlessly being herself and following her own tempo. Itâs what led her to leave home, and to transition and live as herself. Power Spot - Just being next to the PokĂ©mon powers up moves. Sheâs also a hugely collaborative person, despite striking out on her own she doesnât want to be alone she wants to share her abilities and energy with others.
Hidden: Cloud Nine - Eliminates the effects of weather. She has the unique ability to thrive and find joy anywhere, in any kind of weather.Â
battle-zone-beautyâ:
Red is tending to Pikachuâs aches in his lap when sounds of active movement descend from the guestâs room at the top of the stairs. The four-beat thump of a feline dismount from bed-height accompanies human footsteps and the hiss of a sink filling with water. She can feel the return of that wire-twist of tension to Redâs posture, this Torren figure upset his balance like no one else Sorcha had seen, and yet he seemed willing to endure it for some reason.
Setting aside her cup, she leans their upper arms together to shield her signing from the stairwell. âSaint can handle your guest while weâre out.â She brings her index fingers parallel and pushes them forward in a line at chest height, reels back her hands, and then follows the path again with closed fists. âHeâll be attended, and secured.â She leans until the sides of their heads meet with a gentle thunk and then sits forward to retrieve her drink.
Tossing back her hair and raising the teacup, she can feel his gaze linger on her with more than his usual intensity, as heavy as the steam on her skin. She lowers her eyelids and takes in everything about him in her periphery in turn, his posture, the fond look on his face before he raises the cup to his lips with fidgeting fingers.
Heâs brimming with affection and she drinks it up. She gives a bright laugh at the feeling of Redâs thumbprint smudging the condensation on her cheek to wetness. The sound gets swallowed up in kisses and a gestured apology, and she tick-tock taps his chest with her right index finger, âLater, later.â Cantrip takes the chance to dart onto Sorchaâs lap as Red lowers the blanket. Thereâs a wave of laughter at the sight of 'Tripâs fur puffing up with static that discharges almost instantly to Pikachuâs tail as they follow Red, giving a little bit of pep to their step.
Tristan and Coral are continuing their contest gossip and doing meal prep for the group, Sorcha darts in with a kiss to each of their foreheads and scoops up bowls of chopped berries to bring to the kitchen counter. A qualot berry, pitted and split into fifths the size and thickness of fingers, is packed into a food processor along with starchy ganlon cubes. They release an almost citric zest into the air as she pulps them and then folds them into a granola and yogurt mixture waiting in rows of cups in the fridge. Saint slinks into the kitchen from upstairs and occupies a chair next to Tristan, nudging a bowl of cubed salak pawpaws from in front of them to snack on as he lounges.
Sorcha taps the Slugma beneath the broad griddle-top, offering a couple of ganlon cubes to the hearth to coax her into heating. Slugma tosses aside the eggshells from the last offering and eagerly heats the range as she roasts her own meal. Lowering a custom-welded divider onto the heated surface, Sorcha begins pouring whipped Unfezant eggs and a handful of ingredients into each partition for egg patties. Once completed, theyâd be rolled into wraps with different compotes, sauces, and salad mixings. Tristan and Coral slide bowls down the counter-top with special call signs for each meal, indicating whose pokemon gets what. Between the three of them, they could feed an army.
Red makes a face at âattendedâ. Itâs not⊠disgust. Itâs not exactly unhappy, not frustrated or any multitude of negative emotions outright. But it is a face and he does make it. Itâs brief and momentary. She bumps their heads together and he nods, reminding himself that mercy takes more effort than cruelty. Kindness is more of a struggle than coldness.Â
But no one in this little cosmology of the universe knows that. He canât tell them either, because he doesnât know the signs or the words for that kind of struggle.
Itâs better to exist with a few steps in a space where Cantrip looks like heâd gone through the dryer and was enjoying the new sensation of being five times bigger. The spine is the axis of his universe, orbiting him is a group of people that cook meals in line succession, feeding the entire house with pleasant smiles. It smells like citrus.
âTake care of my plant, okay?â
Somebody had gone to get it for him, from Brendan, who diligently kept her healthy.
He has to leave to get his teeth capped though. He leaves his team, save Pikachu, to lounge around the pool, and beach, and play with their friends. Charizard gives him a look before he leaves, and a lick.
The dentist (and she is very peppy and happy to gush about Sorcha, herself; a note: he sympathizes) tells him he needs special paste and his enamel is degenerating (rare, but not uncommon and usually hereditary). He has to write his concerns on an altaria shaped clipboard while an x-ray of his mouth showed that yes, he has⊠absolutely bad molars. The good news? He wouldnât need dentures for at least a few decades.
Itâs funny. He never remembered his teeth being a problem before. Ever.
So, with a small bag of specialized paste and more work than he ever wanted done done, he nurses an idea with Pikachu, chatting nonstop with him about the party, the aftermath, and the contests coming up.Â
And Giovanni.
Theyâre both thinking about it. Pikachu has a solid scar under his coat that is bald in the right light from a bad Sucker Punch landing.
Itâs passing a pawnshop that brings him back to his senses. Thereâs a dinosaur of a projector in the window. He canât help but stop, and stare at it.
You think you can make that old thing work?
Pikachu nods, âPiâ.
So, itâs off to the paddocks, lugging this old thing on a cart, a storeâs worth of paint markers, acetone, white spirits, a box of sweets, and two of Lilycoveâs finest âfishbagsâ.
The first thing he notices is the incredible amount of security around the place. Itâs not contest day, but there have to be five personnel for every contest entrant having the same idea as them and getting a jump on show preparations. Red flashes his identification at no less than three guards, pulling his haul back and counting the steps to Sorchaâs little alcove. There are less people here than usual.
Whatâs going on?
With meals completed, people and pokemon alike are free to continue their circulation between the microcosm of the bungalows and Lilycove at large. Redâs guest descends the stairs quietly with his partner Persian when Sorcha is elbows deep in the sink, scrubbing cooking utensils. Heâs dressed casually in clothing she recognizes, borrowed from Saint. Surveilling the food options, he selects one of the mild fruit and yogurt cups over the more unpredictable âbonus wrapsâ arrayed in a basket for the adventurous or un-picky among the crew.
Heâs very in tune with his partner pokemon, retreating to the same hutch by the back door where she had elected to take her own meal while he had slept that morning. Itâs a behavior Sorcha recognizes from growing up eating breakfast alongside washed up escaped convicts from the mainland, a liking for doors that tends to crop up in those who have once been imprisoned. No harm in small comforts. She makes eye contact with Saint and he inclines his head. Terran is in his capable hands for the day.
With a quick rummage through Redâs things, Sorcha locates his pokeball for Venusaur. The grand dame would be coming with her to help set up and she was itching to soak up some of her grandmaternal energy. She turns before heading out, âSomeone go get Redâs plant from Brendan! Whoever does gets veto power for dinner tomorrow.â
Outside, she frees her Skarmory pair, Maeve and Corcoran, and they screech and stretch in the sunlight, sending diamonds scattering across the sand. They coo and preen at one another like the old lovers they are while Sorcha loads a bundled up canvas tarp onto Maeveâs back containing her most precious welding and carving materials and tools. With a hop and toss of her leg, sheâs astride Corcoran as easy as breathing, and theyâre setting off across Lilycove at an ambling pace.
Security is familiar with her, but she still has to open her purse and tarp before theyâre satisfied. She doesnât like to pick up bad moods, but the extra surveillance does convince her to do a perimeter check of the paddock before letting down her guard. Letting Venusaur out from her pokeball, she kneels in the earth to pet her, grinding light brown dust into the knees of her dark jeans. âWeâre bringinâ him here to relax after all, canât do that if thereâs an ambush!â she says to her in a voice of mock gravity, before laughing and hugging her broad wise face.
Sheâs arranging tools on rolling carts while Maeve and Corcoran strut and posture to one another when Red arrives at the alcove. She laughs a little sadly at the question, âContest-contenders tend to be less willing to die for their art than battlers are.â She taps her inner left wrist to her outer right wrist, crossed at her chest. âPoisonings, youâd know better than anyone. Not that you let that slow you down. Canât blame people for preferring to prep in the privacy of hotel rooms instead if they can.â
Her eyes light up as she recognizes what he and Pikachu have brought with them. âNow whatâs the plan with this!â
Sorcha leans down into view in her vanity mirror to re-apply her lipstick and check her hair. She'd sit, but the stool is heaped with outfits that she hasn't put away since an afternoon of cheeky personal catwalks for Coral a week prior. Bracing her hand on the glass-top of the vanity surface to lean in for a closer look, her fingers brush against a bundle of silky cords buried underneath the patchwork of pocket handkerchiefs and scrunchies.
Grabbing and tugging one chubby burgundy tassel, she extracts a long chain of six connected silk cords. Each cord culiminates in identical tassels to the one from which she dangled the rest.
Fond feelings blossom in her chest, this is one of her truly favorite accessories. It's called a ch'ah tlool back home in the Sinnoh Battle Zone, an old-fashioned corded hair piece that women wear to compact and protect their hair underneath winter hats. She had always been fond of the subtle rainbow of colors they could be found in, and upon leaving home for adventure her mother had bundled four such hair pieces into her luggage as a parting gift.
Inside her vanity drawer, safe from the scattering of lipstick tubes and top coats above, the silken gold, black, and emerald green bundles await their own special events for wear. Gold for celebrations, black for gravity and poise, and green for weddings and baby showers.
This burgundy one she had become partial to wearing for parties, selecting one of the people circulating through the home at any time to help her part and hold her hair aside, and then weave the cords through in intuitive patterns. She delights in the feeling of people's fingers parting and braiding her hair, and in seeing the unique creative impulses of each companion.
Letting the silk flow over her fingertips as she allows the cords to cascade from one hand to the other, she comes to a resolution. She wraps the cords up gently and places them on the vanity once more, and then gathers all of the clothes from the stool at once and tosses them onto the bed. Enough mess, time to clean!
'I'd say it to your face. You're so cool.'
Sorcha parses the surprise compliment briefly and breaks into a smile, reaching out to pinch Red's cheek between her painted thumbnail and a knuckle. "You're sweet on me." He earns a red lipstick smack right over the pinch, warmed by the rush of blood to his face.
