Kat kept calm as she searched through out the apartment. Using a device to sweep for any signals linked to bug surveillance. "Did you have any maintenance inside? Plumber? A/C unit cleaned? Delivery?" Any answers would help the signal sweep go a lot faster.
A hard shake of his head. No one came into his apartment or hotel room unless vetted by himself. If Jason had the time, he'd prescreen the staff before booking a room. As it were, he didn't have that opportunity.
"Unless someone came in without my knowing." Be it an employee or another spine. A chill swept down his spine as he reached for his gun. With steady steps, he walked through each room, searching for an intruder.
"wonderful to meet you." she quipped with sincerity. ilsa sipped at her drink and leaned back with a light hum, "paradise itself. and a little bit of business, but moreso the paradise. this little chance to soak up a quiet space away from a bustling city and high demands of society." while she could've been doing a bit of recon, the idea of a drink and calming nature was more alluring.
"the company itself has turned out to be a bit of a perk." and interesting at that. her employer had been so vague about why he wanted her, now she was getting a slight idea. although, she truly had no idea what it all meant. why waste their time on something that had been settled and was practically old news at this point. ilsa sympathized with his story. "what about you? lured in by the quiet way of life as well? or trying to escape something?" or maybe it was merely a minor stop in an unknown journey.
Her palm was rough against his own. Someone who used her hands. But Sara had the look of a high class woman. Jason's head tilted to the side as he tried to piece together who or what she might be. A part of his brain that would always work, dissect, and assess every interaction. He'd been burned too many times not to be suspicious of everyone.
Now...was she trying to flirt with him? That...ability was stripped from him. Jason couldn't quite grasp the nuance of it but offered another slight twitch of his lips. "The people are nice here," he agreed, unsure of who Sara meant.
Taking another sip of his drink, Jason's head shifted from side to side. "Just a stop. Might stay here a few more days, or maybe a few months. I didn't really have a plan." It was only partially a lie. Right now, Jason just wanted to drown in his sorrows and forget that his previous life existed. Where did someone like him go from here?
"What sort of business do you do?"
watching her work was fascinating. clint tilted his head, wishing there was a way for him to work so quickly, efficiently. probably not. he cleared his throat and took the offered device. his gaze roaming over the information that she was providing him. "well, shit, this just about does it." it was even more detailed than what he'd been expecting. "and you're positive that all of this is accurate?"
There was a small sense of pride in Isla's chest at Clint's approval. A trait that had been denied during her training. Thankfully her former squad leader had given his team members enough praise that it fed that deep seeded craving. The work she'd done, the work she did now, it wasn't easy.
With a cool expression, tampering down on her smile, the operative nodded. "Those are the most up to date prints on file. Of course, there is room for error. Could be secret plans I don't know about," she shrugged. "But the system I used has a 99% accuracy rating. If you need back up, I have the training."
her lips twitched with the familiarity of his voice, the unspoken words that she'd come to recognize. like they had a direct frequency to each other after all these years. however, they couldn't take back what they'd said to each other. nor change the events that had occurred. it was like a gigantic blockade between them. maybe that's why she felt it was better to give him a call.
fights happened.. but she cared too much to block him out permanently.
for a moment she allowed silence to fill the air without hanging up on him. unspoken words, apologies bit back by a pride that was too strong. "... you could thank me by meeting me later." she just needed one.. tiny itty bitty thing from him. natasha certainly wanted to see him too, but there was a minor, ulterior motive there.
His pacing stopped, hand squeezing around his phone. The plastic groaned in protest before he lightened his grip. He hadn't been expecting that answer.
With a soft exhale, he tried to keep the smile from his voice. "When and where?" Because Steve would come, no matter what. Especially if this gave them a chance to clear the air or to at least start rebuilding their friendship. It wasn't gone per say but it was certainly strained. But Rogers wouldn't let it break. He valued Natasha too much for that.
