So I rewatched the pilot episode of My Name is Earl, and if you've never seen that show a very bare bones explanation of the first episode is that the most trailer park hick You have ever met has decided that he has to make up for all of the bad things he's ever done and the first thing he decides to do is to help out a kid he bullied who turns out to be gay, main character panics and acts weird about it, and then in the end learns a little more and helps the guy. Bare bones, not bad but definitely not perfect. It's a product of 2004, y'know?

Overall I felt like it was pretty accurate and it was overwhelmingly positive, but you could not make that fucking episode today. The reason why is not because the main character calls the gay man a queer and then immediately panics about how rude it came off, and chooses the words Homosexual American. I'm sure that would piss some people off, but it is very accurate (seriously, if you have ever talked to a southern man that doesn't know anything about gay people, but also isn't hateful about it, they will accidentally call you a slur and it will be a wild one), and honestly? Super funny. I think most gay people would giggle at that.

No, no. You could not make that episode today, because the pilot episode has a gay man being helped and supported by the main character, who learns to accept the gay man. That's the first episode. They would call that shit woke now! That hashtag will be trending for so fucking long that you would start to develop a pavlovian response to the name of the show. Every 1 and ½ post on any social media website would be about the show being liberal properganduh. This shit came out in 2004! How have we not evolved past this? Elder gays used to be able to look out and feel a sense of pride and joy that younger gays could be out in ways they never could, and now younger gays are experiencing the exact opposite. I'm going to walk into the ocean.

it should be mandatory for every pc game that has absurdly high resolution graphics and monstrously large filesizes to have a "dogshit version" that you can play on any old pc cause i've had it up to here with getting excited for games only to discover that my laptop doesn't meet the minimum system requirements and i will never be able to play them. i don't care how realistically the windows reflect light. i don't need to be able to distinguish every available hair on the player character's head. i just want to play viddy game :(
